Your smartest character can only be as smart as you are, and every other character must be dumber in comparison

Most people are of average intelligence, which means all characters dumber than your smartest character are now dumber than the average person

What I'm saying is I wish fewer people were trying to write characters of "genius level intellect" and instead concentrated on working on their ability to write interesting plots or coherent emotional development
