The entire north wall of the room was covered in his research and work—blueprints, notes, a corkboard to the right. It all circled above and around the desk settled against the wall in the center. Pinholes filled the spaces in between, reminders of discarded or moved documents. The room was settled snuggly in the ruins of the pizzeria beneath the Pizzaplex. It was far from his only workspace, but the one most focused on his more damning research. The sort that he could not easily explain away if anyone other than the two of them saw it.

"No need to worry about that," he replied, elbows rested on knees where he sat. Setbacks were not enough to stop a man who had sought out immortality with obsessive determination and succeeded. He had given up everything for it. Now, he would get it back. "You'll learn that I don't give up—ever."
