Aincrad Arc Trigger Warnings List (ANIME)
hello everyone, i’m currently working on a masterpost for trigger warnings in the entirity of the sao anime, however i found it was getting long and might be hard to read if you struggle with long posts and large chunks of text, so i decided to make shorter versions for each arc, too
please note that sword art online frequently deals with heavy themes and potentially triggering topics (such as death, sexual assault, ptsd, etc) and if you think something might affect you, please watch with caution
sword art online spoilers below the cut, though i tried to keep it as minimal as possible - please let me know if you need anything else added!!
AINCRAD ARC (Episodes 1 - 14)
episode 3, red-nosed reindeer - suicide
after the death of his guild, a character kills himself by falling over the railing over the side of aincrad. he blames kirito for the death of the guild and for says it’s kirito’s fault that he’s committing suicide.
episode 6, illusionary avenger - murder of a spouse
after an elaborate scheme to pass the blame onto someone else, it’s revealed that a character murdered his wife in the game after she stopped being submissive and following all his orders.
episode 12, yui’s heart - implied death of a child
an npc who resembles and acts like a 10-year-old girl is deleted by sword art online’s running system after it detects her as a faulty program. she returns in the following arc, but this scene is treated as her “death” - it’s more emotional than graphic and contains no violence.
episode 13, edge of hell’s abyss - referenced suicide/threat of suicide
after kirito tells her that he wants her to stay away from a dangerous boss fight, asuna tells him that she’d kill herself if he fought the boss without her and died.
episode 14, end of the world - suicide/referenced suicide
during the final fight of the arc, kirito tells heathcliff to ensure asuna won’t be able to kill herself if he dies. asuna yells at him not to. during the fight, asuna rushes in front of kirito to block an attack, is impaled by a sword and appears to die in his arms, however she doesn’t actually die and they meet again a few minutes later when the fight is over.
