The children are getting into DuckTales (the original, I think you need to know the original before the remake) and although they naturally like the theme song because it slaps, they're a little unclear on the actual words. I think Hannah picked up on the foreboding tone of "D-d-d-danger lurks behind you, there's a stranger out to find you," because I heard her quietly singing, "Death is looking for me, here in Duckburg."

#life with airy #we've now told all the children the sort of edited version of how Pearl died #that she was very old (true)#had to go to the vet (true)#they kept her overnight (true from a certain point of view)#she went to sleep and didn't wake up (ditto)#Little Nephew was a bit tearful and sympathetic #Hannah and Barbara (understandably for their age) weren't as tactful #Hannah asked if we could get a new kitten now and Barbara said she was glad it wasn't her grandfather who died #(don't know if Barbara is actually worried about him dying but it seems unlikely)#it didn't hurt my feelings because I expected it #and I told Hannah that I wouldn't be ready for another cat for a while #and explained the whole grief thing by analogy to a physical injury #that when it happens there's immediate pain and it gradually heals #you still love them and miss them but you don't feel the same fresh pain #hopefully it made sense!
