it’s  pitch  black  around  them,  but  they’ve  both  managed  to  evade  sleep.  not  hard  for  hunted  girls,  too  used  to  shutting  eyes  and  finding  no  freedom  from  a  bloody  past.  maybe  they’ll  never  really  escape  it,  cora  thinks  she  gave  up  the  hope  for  it  a  long,  long  time  ago.  before  her  brother  was  alive,  before  her  sister  died,  in  a  way  everything  started  and  ended  the  night  of  the  fire.  it’s  not  much  of  a  shift  for  her  hand  to  rest  over  emma’s  heart,  but  she’s  answering  before  it  settles  there,  eyes  closed  and  lazy  movement.       ❛   i  can  hear  it,   ❜     she  replies,  though  it’s  long  since  melded  into  background  noise  along  with  the  rest  of  their  surroundings,  only  to  become  loud  once  she’s  made  the  choice  to  focus  on  it.  it’s  a  familiar  beat,  but  not  altogether  steady.  it’s  only  one  of  what  pings  senses,  she  finally  cracks  dark  eyes  open.     ❛  you’re  nervous.   ❜
