i think the best way to summarize what the issue was (is. i know they're still around i just see less of them) with mogai type people is that if you ask them something like 'whats the difference between a man and a woman how do i know which i am' (those are just as examples you can fill them in w whatever label you like) they'll give you a direct concrete answer like such a thing exists

#p #over the course of doing a halfway useless gender studies minor and generally thinking about these things a lot for like 8-10 years #ive settled on the basic principles 1. people in general are all more alike than we're different and those differences are to be celebrated #2. bc of that general tendency to overlap w others' experience people who feel similarly to you will use different labels #3. (inverse of 2) a lot of ppl who use the same label as you will have v different experiences/feelings abt that aspect of their identity #4. the people who feel similarly & id differently/feel differently & id the same aren't wrong for that and neither are you #i believe this is an iteration of descriptivism vs prescriptivism but i don't feel like looking it up lol
