VS-27 Grumman S2F-1 Tracker 136615 (AU-10) by Wing attack Plan R Via Flickr: Grumman S2F-1 (S-2A) Tracker/Bu.No. 136615 -Upgraded to S-2F. -1961: VS-27 as AU-10. -VS-32 as AT-42. - 1966: VS-32. -8/1966: Put into storage at MASDC. -Converted to US-2A. -1968: MCAS New River Base Flight. -11/19/1968: Written off. Photo Credit's: Unknown to me (Reprint). Photo date: 1961-62. Location: Aboard USS Essex (CV-9)? The Grumman S-2 Tracker (S2F prior to 1962) was the first purpose-built, single airframe anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft to enter service with the United States Navy. Designed and initially built by Grumman, the Tracker was of conventional design — propeller-driven with twin radial engines, a high wing that could be folded for storage on aircraft carriers, and tricycle undercarriage. The type was exported to a number of navies around the world. Introduced in 1952, the Tracker and its E-1 Tracer derivative saw service in the U.S. Navy until the mid-1970s, and its C-1 Trader derivative until the mid-1980s, with a few aircraft remaining in service with other air arms into the 21st century. Argentina and Brazil are the last countries to still use the Tracker. Design and development- The Tracker was intended as a replacement for the Grumman AF Guardian, which was the first purpose-built aircraft system for ASW, using two airframes for two versions, one with the detection gear, and the other with the weapon systems. The Tracker combined both functions in one aircraft. Grumman's design (model G-89) was for a large high-wing monoplane with twin Wright Cyclone R-1820 nine cylinder radial engines, a yoke type arrestor hook and a crew of four. Both the two prototypes XS2F-1 and 15 production aircraft, S2F-1 were ordered at the same time, on 30 June 1950. The first flight was conducted on 4 December 1952, and production aircraft entered service with VS-26, in February 1954. Follow-on versions included the WF Tracer and TF Trader, which became the Grumman E-1 Tracer and Grumman C-1 Trader in the tri-service designation standardization of 1962. The S-2 carried the nickname "Stoof" (S-two-F) throughout its military career; and the E-1 Tracer variant with the large overhead radome was colloquially called the "stoof with a roof.". Grumman produced 1,185 Trackers. At least 99 and possibly 100 aircraft carrying the CS2F designation were manufactured in Canada under license by de Havilland Canada. U.S.-built versions of the Tracker were sold to various nations, including Australia, Japan, Turkey and Taiwan. Sensors and armament- The Tracker had an internal torpedo bay capable of carrying two lightweight aerial torpedoes or one nuclear depth charge. There were six underwing hard points for rocket pods and conventional depth charges or up to four additional torpedoes. A ventrally-mounted retractable radome for AN/APS-38 radar and a Magnetic Anomaly Detector (MAD) AN/ASQ-8 mounted on an extendable rear mounted boom were also fitted. Early model Trackers had an Electronic Support Measures (ESM) pod mounted dorsally just aft of the front seat overhead hatches and were also fitted with a smoke particle detector or "sniffer" for detecting exhaust particles from diesel-electric submarines running on snorkel. Later S-2s had the sniffer removed and had the ESM antennae moved to four rounded extensions on the wingtips. A 70-million-candlepower searchlight was mounted on the starboard wing. The engine nacelles carried JEZEBEL sonobuoys in the rear (16 in early marks, 32 in the S-2E/G). Early Trackers also carried 60 explosive charges, dispensed ventrally from the rear of the fuselage and used to create sound pulses for semi-active sonar (JULIE) with the AN/AQA-3 and later AQA-4 detection sets, whereas the introduction of active sonobuoys (pingers) and AN/AQA-7 with the S-2G conversion saw these removed. Smoke dispensers were mounted on the port ventral surface of the nacelles in groups of three each.

Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Anchorage via United Airlines to Chicago, Chicago via Air Canada to Toronto. 6,635 kms.
Tumblr media
I catch the 11:59 red eye and upgrade to premium economy in hopes of getting some sleep. Turns out, I needn't have bothered. The flight is half empty, so I find a bare row and fall asleep stretched out over three seats. I catch the Alaska sunset as I go. Yes, it's 12:00 midnight.
The flight is smooth and uneventful. I wake up in time to catch a view of Chicago. That is definitely not Alaska down there.
It didn't take long for Air Canada to start making its presence known. I take a picture of my empty gate. Yes, I've been here for 10 minutes, and already, my flight to Toronto is delayed.
OK, two delays later, departure time is now 12:30. The plane is at the gate, so fingers crossed.
Got off at 12:30, smooth flight, and just like that, it's over, and I'm home. It's time to start planning my next adventure.

Affordable Luxury: How to Score Business Class Deals from India to Canada
Dreaming of traveling in style from India to Canada without breaking the bank? You're not alone. Business Class offers luxurious comfort, better meals, and personalized service, making your long-haul flight an enjoyable experience. While Business Class tickets are typically pricey, there are ways to find great deals and experience the lap of luxury without emptying your wallet. In this guide, we'll explore how to score affordable Business Class deals on flights from India to Canada, ensuring you have a comfortable and cost-effective journey.
1. Book in Advance
One of the key strategies for securing affordable Business Class deals is booking your flight well in advance. Airlines often release discounted Business Class seats when they first become available. By planning your trip ahead of time and monitoring ticket releases, you increase your chances of finding deals.
2. Sign Up for Fare Alerts
Fare alerts can be your best friend when hunting for Business Class deals. Set up alerts on airline websites, travel apps, or fare tracking services, and you'll receive notifications when discounted Business Class fares from India to Canada become available.
3. Utilize Miles and Points
If you're part of a frequent flyer program or have credit card points, it's time to put them to good use. Many airlines offer the option to upgrade to Business Class using miles or points. Accumulate them with your preferred airline and take advantage of this cost-effective luxury.
4. Be Flexible with Your Travel Dates
Flexibility can significantly affect the price of Business Class tickets. If your travel dates are flexible, consider flying during off-peak seasons or on weekdays, as these flights are often more budget-friendly. Fare comparison websites can help you find the most affordable options.
5. Keep an Eye on Promotions
Airlines frequently run promotions, sales, and flash deals. Follow airlines and travel deal websites on social media to stay updated on these discounts. Flash sales often come with short notice, so be ready to book quickly.
6. Consider Layovers
While non-stop flights are convenient, they tend to be more expensive. Opting for flights with layovers can result in significant savings. Although layovers may extend your travel time, the opportunity to fly in Business Class makes it worthwhile.
7. Search for One-Way Tickets
Business Class one-way tickets can sometimes be more budget-friendly than round-trip tickets. Compare the prices of both one-way and round-trip options to see which offers the best deal for your specific travel plans.
8. Upgrade at the Airport
Some airlines offer the possibility of upgrading to Business Class at the airport for a fraction of the regular fare. While this isn't guaranteed, it's worth asking about at the check-in counter, especially if Business Class seats are still available.
9. Mix Airlines and Alliances
Consider mixing airlines or airline alliances for your trip. This can provide cost savings, as different airlines and alliances may offer better deals on different legs of your journey.
10. Follow Airline Newsletters and Loyalty Programs
Joining airline newsletters and loyalty programs is a great way to receive exclusive offers and deals. Airlines often send out promotions and discounts to their loyal customers.
Scoring affordable Business Class deals from India to Canada is possible with the right strategies. By booking in advance, staying flexible with your travel plans, monitoring promotions, and using miles or points, you can enjoy the luxury and comfort of Business Class without the premium price tag. Experience the ultimate in air travel while keeping your budget intact. Bon voyage!

Understanding Seat Types
Air Canada offers various seat types to cater to different passenger needs. Here's a breakdown of the options available:
Standard Seats
Standard seats are the most common seating option available on Air Canada flights. They offer a comfortable and basic flying experience with standard legroom and amenities.
Preferred Seats
Preferred seats are located in prime areas of the aircraft, such as exit rows or bulkhead seats. These seats come with extra legroom, making them a popular choice for travelers seeking more comfort during their flight.
Premium Economy
For a higher level of comfort, consider opting for premium economy seats. These seats offer increased legroom, enhanced amenities, and a more personalized experience.
Business Class
Business class seats provide luxury and sophistication, with spacious seating, premium amenities, and priority service. This option is ideal for travelers looking for a premium flying experience.
First Class
First-class seats offer the ultimate in luxury and comfort. Passengers can enjoy the finest amenities, personalized service, and a private and exclusive environment.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Seat
When selecting a seat for your Air Canada flight, it's important to consider several factors to ensure a comfortable journey:
Legroom and Space
If you value legroom and personal space, consider choosing seats with extra legroom. Exit rows, bulkhead seats, and premium economy options are excellent choices for passengers who want to stretch out during the flight.
Seat Location
Decide whether you prefer a window, aisle, or middle seat. Window seats offer scenic views and a place to rest your head, while aisle seats provide easier access to the restroom and cabin crew.
Personal Preferences
Think about your own preferences. Do you want to be closer to the front for quicker disembarkation, or would you rather be near the restrooms? Consider what matters most to you during the flight.
Travel Companions
If you're traveling with family or friends, consider the seating arrangement. Do you want to sit together, or do you prefer individual seats? Air Canada allows you to choose seats together during the booking process.
Using Seat Maps to Your Advantage
Air Canada provides seat maps for each flight during the booking process. Take advantage of these maps to see the layout of the aircraft and the available seats. This will help you make an informed decision based on your preferences and needs.
Seat Selection Fees and Policies
Keep in mind that certain seat selections may come with additional fees. Preferred seats and premium options often require an extra cost, so be sure to review the fees associated with your chosen seat type.
Tips for Families and Groups
If you're traveling with children or as part of a group, it's a good idea to book your seats early to ensure you can sit together. Air Canada offers options to choose adjacent seats when booking as a group.
Upgrading Your Seat
If you're interested in upgrading your seat, consider checking for available upgrades during online check-in. Upgrades to premium seats or higher classes may be available for a fee, providing you with a chance to enjoy a more luxurious experience.
Early Bird Seat Selection
Air Canada offers an Early Bird seat selection option, allowing you to secure your preferred seat well in advance. This is especially useful if you have specific seating preferences and want to ensure you get the best spot.
Making the Most of Your Choice
Once you've chosen your seat, make the most of it during your flight. Enjoy the amenities, relax, and make your journey as comfortable as possible.
Conclusion
Choosing the perfect seat on your Air Canada flight can make a significant difference in your travel experience. Whether you prioritize extra legroom, proximity to facilities, or premium luxury, considering the factors that matter most to you will ensure a comfortable and enjoyable journey.

Air Canada Self-Service Kiosk Systems
IBM provided 142 self-service kiosks at eight airports to speed up the ticketing, check-in, boarding, and baggage handling procedures for Air Canada passengers. Because this is where Air Canada does most of its business, the system can only be used at airports in North America.
IBM has a long-standing partnership with Air Canada, including the supply of equipment for the airline's Maple Leaf Lounges and cyber ticket office. This involved the joint development of technology and enables users to make reservations for all Air Canada flights through the Internet. The kiosk system is seen as the result of the two businesses' commercial collaboration.
Tumblr media
THE KIOSK SYSTEM An IBM PC with a touch-sensitive monitor, boarding pass printer, and card reader runs the kiosk. Using a credit card used to purchase the ticket or an Air Canada Aeroplan card, customers with paper or electronic tickets can use the kiosk's card reader to activate the system.
Users are guided through the procedure by on-screen prompts. Through interactive seat maps, they can confirm their itinerary, select, change, or confirm their seat, request an upgrade or standby for an earlier flight, and receive instructions on how to check their bags. Information about the boarding gate is also provided, and a bar-coded boarding pass is printed at the end of the process. Passengers can go straight to the gate if there is no baggage to check.
INCREASED PROFIT The devices can be used in either English or French, and the system should help Air Canada move more people through the system. Because the system makes these functions either automatic or able to be performed by the passengers themselves, processing interactions with customers has reduced costs. The new system has cut passenger check-in times by 80% and directly increased Air Canada's profitability. Airlines will be able to adapt their self-service applications and run them on shared kiosks with the assistance of the kiosk standard known as Common Use Self Service (CUSS).
Other related technologies developed and implemented by Air Canada and IBM include Journey Management, a simulation modeling technique that uses advanced information technology to determine the resources required to get passengers through check-in, security, and boarding faster. PanoramIX allows users of the Air Canada website to interactively browse panoramic images of Air Canada planes and experience a virtual take-off and landing.

Just had a very bizarre dream.
So this future Europe trip of mine will be the first time I go on a plane since 2005. I know planes have had a few minor upgrades since then, like USB ports, but I know what to expect for Air Canada.
The first part of the dream is at the airport. I arrive with my family, they're boarding a separate flight to Toronto while I fly direct to Copenhagen. (Yes, all the way from Vancouver Island lol.) Their waiting lounge is just beside mine, and they load 5 minutes before me. When it's time to load, I find that all the big stuff came out of my small bag, and I only have the five minutes to repack it all, go pee and board the plane.
I get on the small plane, even while carrying my boots over the carry-on limit, and go to find my seat. It's at the back in an enclosed section, decorated in pink with flowers, where the last ten seats are at these tall little tables being served a multicourse meal.
At this point, my conscious brain kicks in, reminding me that the first leg off any flight I take would only be a half-hour hop to Vancouver.
So I then imediately dream of boarding my next flight, and it is resort level. My seat is an entire bedroom suite, complete with a skyview bathtub and hourly tea service, and there's a pool elsewhere on the plane.
There are outdoor viewing areas where we slow down to approach and cruise by. We fly low over Scottish castles, and there's one where an American-flag decked castle has festival crowds with a random celebrity in attendance.
We leave that festival, and I try out the lido deck pool, where the plane has us dipping directly into the ocean. Cool at first, but then I see a shark a little too close below us.
My dream then cuts to boarding another plane, where to get on you have to unzip a small opening iin the hull, like you do in a tent only with very thick plasticy material. Inside there is a courtesy package the size of a duvet bag, impossible to carry on another plane, complete with a shipping label only valid for US destinations. Contents were vague, I only specifically remember a nice terry-cloth housecoat and towel.
Andd then I woke up, realized my subconscious was fucking with me again, and wrote this all out.

Im going to osaka with the deal of the week I love Japan and go out of my way to help anyone who has an interest in visiting.

If anyone has any questions or whatnot feel free to get in touch with me. His name is Akira and his English is pretty decent! Here are the links to the two properties: You choose the start date of your pass when you redeem the pass voucher at the appropriate ticketing counter, so a little planning on when you'll actually be using the pass is suggested.įor anyone visiting Kyoto, a friend of mine runs two AirBnBs.

I got the standard fare pass, and never paid to upgrade to a reserved seat and it was fine for travel from mid-end of September. Prices are the same pretty much anywhere you can order the vouchers as far as I know.
#HTTP WWW IVIDEO COM TW PORTABLE#
I'd definitely recommend bringing along a portable usb battery to keep your pocket wifi and other devices charged.įor the JR Rail Pass, I used the 1 week version and for my purposes it was worth it. You can pick up/drop off at the airport or a hotel (return envelope included). I would lose service only when going through tunnels while on the bullet train, otherwise very reliable (travelled from Tokyo as far west as Hiroshima).īattery life was pretty good, just make sure to turn it off while charging overnight I rented the Standard Wifi unit in 2014 and it was great. Just wanted to leave some feedback/advice for those taking advantage of this great deal. Unfortunately, I won't be able to take part in this deal, but hopefully something similar comes up in 2017 when I plan on visiting Japan again. May be cheaper to rent for a month and return early (was for us!) all kinds of coupon codes to be had for it as well. May add some more laterĮdit: Found a really good really cheap pocket wifi for use in japan.

Īs for Itinerary, a few things we are considering: Other subways can be used by purchasing a SUICA or other subway pass. It can be purchased in many places and you receive a voucher, which you must trade in at a JR office for the official pass. Typically it is said that if you are not travelling a long distance in Japan (IE Osaka to Tokyo) then a JR pass is not worth the money. Make sure to research where you want to go and what subway lines to be sure this can be used. This pass works for all Major bullet train lines operated by JR, as well as some local subways. I don't know an exceeding amount about the JR Pass, but I know once its activated, the days you can use it for are sequential (IE, bought 7 days, activate on a tuesday, it expires next tuesday). For those that don't, return cost is your responsibility. Choose wisely! They ship the pocketwifi to the post office at the air port so you can pick up then. Usually they have 2 options - 1 super-fast but with limited bandwidth, 1 slower but unlimited bandwidth.
