Love how my taste in poetry is utterly irrational, has absolutely no rhyme nor reason, and seems to be based solely on Vibes
#I'm not a poetry person though I do intend to read more of it#And there are a lot of mediaeval poets in the category of 'poetry I like' but that might also just be because I've READ more mediaeval poems#Meanwhile my knowledge of modern poetry is patchy at best and it's really not clear where to start if I don't want to do it chronologically#But yeah#Setting Chaucer Dunbar Henryson and the rest of the gang to one side#And Burns whose works are written on my heart due to upbringing even though I've not read much of him as an adult#There seems to be absolutely no reason why I go 'Eh it's alright I suppose' to some poems and 'YES THAT ONE YES' to others#Entirely vibes#I'm coming to the conclusion that that's maybe the best way to consume poetry anyway#My lack of modern poetry knowledge is not helped by the fact that I like to have the whole of a poet's output at my disposal#But I also like to dip in and out of poetry#So staring down a 400+ page collection of poems is not helpful they'll all start to run into one another#But at the same time I don't want to buy individual collections as I might be missing out on something#So I just never read it
