The 2022 FIFA World Cup began on November 20, 2022 in Qatar, and already holds the world’s rapt attention.
For those unfamiliar with the FIFA World Cup, it is the biggest tournament for international soccer held every four years. It is one of the most watched sports competitions around the world, with more than 3.5 billion viewers during the 2018 World Cup and the 2022 World Cup expected to reach an audience of 5 billion.
The FIFA World Cup Qualifiers is a lengthy process that occurs years before the final tournament. Each of FIFA’s six regional soccer confederations holds preliminary tournaments and qualifier matches. The six FIFA confederations are UEFA (Europe), CONMEBOL (South America), CONCACAF (North, Central America and the Caribbean), AFC (Asia plus Australia), CAF (Africa), and OFC (Oceania). Teams in each league play each other for points; a win is worth three points, a draw is worth one point and a loss is worth no points. The teams with the most points at the end of the qualifying period advance to the World Cup to represent their confederation. However, this means that not all confederations may be represented.
Now the World Cup. The teams are split into eight groups of four teams, with groups lettered A to H. Each group was created through a random draw out of four points in April, with teams placed in pots based on their FIFA world ranking. The top two teams of each group advance to the round of 16. The winner of each group plays the runner-up of the succeeding letter group until there are only 8 teams left. For example, the first seed of Group A would play the second seed of Group B. In the case where two teams are tied in points, the first-place team is the team with the highest point differential. The knockout rounds continue  to the quarterfinals, where eight teams battle for a place as one of the four teams in the semi-finals. The top two teams from the semi-finals play against each other in the finals for the FIFA World Cup trophy and the title of FIFA World Champions.
There are many strong contenders in this year’s tournament, with Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, and the reigning champion France all having strong chances of winning. The top soccer players are also scheduled to make appearances with their respective teams, including stars like Kylian Mbappe (France), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), and Neymar (Brazil) showcasing their skills. With this World Cup being the final tournament of beloved players like Ronaldo and Messi (and possibly Neymar), fans and players alike are tuning in to watch them play one last time.
The tournament so far has seen some shocking results, specifically Argentina’s 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia. Argentina was higher ranked and a team favoured to win the Cup; viewers expected an easy win against Saudi Arabia on November 22. However, when Saudi Arabia, a team expected to lose, won against Argentina and fan-favourite Messi, it became one of the biggest upsets in the tournament.
Canada has also created history. This is the first Canadian team to play in the World Cup since 1986 in Mexico and the second time Canada qualified for the World Cup in history. They played against Belgium and Croatia, with a 1-0 and 4-1 loss respectively. In their Croatia game, Canada made history as they scored their first goal in their World Cup history. Canada recently played against Morocco, hoping for a win, but lost 2-1. Unfortunately, Canada will not advance to the knockout round of 16.

The countries advancing to the round of 16 are Argentina, the USA, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Croatia, England, Senegal, Morocco, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Australia, Switzerland, South Korea, and Brazil. As of December 5th, Argentina, France, the Netherlands, Croatia and England are moving on to the quarter finals, eliminating Australia, the USA, Poland, Senegal, and Japan in the process.
Despite all that has already occurred, the FIFA World Cup is far from over, and fans from around the world are anticipatedly waiting and watching to see who comes out on top.

Foulkes Approved As Replacement For Hekmat In NZ s U19 WC Squad
Tumblr media
The Event Technical Committee: New Zealand leg-spinner Rahman Hekmat has been withdrawn from the side’s squad for the upcoming U19 Men’s World Cup in South Africa due to a lumbar bone stress injury sustained during training. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said allrounder Robbie Foulkes has been called into the squad as Hekmat’s replacement and will fly to South Africa on Friday, a move which has been approved by the Event Technical Committee of the tournament. The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad. The Event Technical Committee of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket and Chair of the ETC), Wanele Mngomezulu (Host Tournament Director), Sarah Edgar (IBC Representative) and Samuel Badree (Independent Representative). Hekmat, 18, was vying to be the first New Zealand U19 player of Afghanistan origin to play at the World Cup. He was born in Peshawar, Pakistan, before migrating to Auckland, New Zealand with his family in 2006. His playing inspirations include legendary Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne and Afghanistan leggie Rashid Khan. New Zealand, who opted out of 2022 edition due to Covid-19 quarantine protocols, is in Group D alongside Afghanistan, Nepal and Pakistan in the 15th edition of the Men’s U19 World Cup, with the final scheduled for February 11 at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. New Zealand qualified for the tournament via the East Asia Pacific Qualifiers. Their opening match will be against Nepal in Buffalo Park, East London on January 21, followed by games against Afghanistan and Pakistan at the same venue on January 23 and 27 respectively. 16 teams will be divided into groups of four each. The top three teams from each group will qualify for the Super Sixes stage, starting on January 30. At that stage, 12 teams will be divided into two groups of six each. In the Super Sixes, the top three teams from Groups A and D are put together, while the top three teams of Groups B and C are in the other group. The teams play two matches in this phase, and avoid the team that finished in the corresponding position in the other group. The top two teams from each group in the Super Sixes will enter the semi-finals, from which the two winning teams will enter the final. Four teams who won’t make it to the Super Sixes will play the playoffs to decide the 13th to 16th positions. Read the full article

U.S. Will Host Club World Cup in 2025
Tumblr media
A year before 48 of the best men’s national soccer teams come to North America for the World Cup, 32 of the best club teams will arrive in the United States for the first edition of an expanded Club World Cup in 2025.The entrants will include the 12 top European teams based on their performances in the Champions League, including Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City. Clubs from the rest of the world will qualify from their various continental club championships. The Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer earned a berth by winning the 2022 Concacaf Champions League, and teams from Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Brazil and elsewhere have already qualified, with more than half the field still to be determined.FIFA announced Friday that the United States would host the event. The cities where games will be held and the exact format of the tournament have not yet been disclosed. The event is expected to be held in June and July.FIFA has long dreamed of a world championship for club teams that might someday rival the big international team events it holds. At one point, a 24-team version of the event was announced for China but was scrapped, in part because of the pandemic.Under the current format, started in 2005, the Club World Cup has been held annually in the winter months, with seven teams — one per continent and one from the host country. The expanded event, proposed long ago but delayed several times, is expected to be held every four years.Despite the global field, European teams nearly always win the event, and with 12 of 32 entrants in the new format, they seem likely to continue to do so. This means that the Club World Cup could become essentially a spruced-up version of Europe’s Champions League. It would also add to the nearly year-round schedule of games for top players. In part for these reasons, the European governing body, UEFA, some top club teams and representatives for players have been at times less than enthusiastic about the expanded event.J.T. Batson, the chief executive of U.S. Soccer, said he was excited about the coming event.Besides the 12 European entrants, the 2025 event will include six teams from South America; four each from Asia, Africa and the North and Central America and Caribbean region; one from Oceania; and one from the host country, in this case the United States. The expanded Club World Cup will come one year before the 2026 World Cup, which will hold the bulk of its games, including the final, in the United States, with some games in Canada and Mexico. In 2024, the United States will host the Copa América, the championship for South American national teams. Source link Read the full article

Decaffeinated Coffee Market Analysis Growth Opportunities and Demand Drives by 2033
According to Future Market Insights’ most recent market estimate, the decaffeinated coffee market is worth US$ US$ 20.06 billion in 2023. A CAGR of 6.9% is anticipated in the market during the forecast period.
Millennials prefer decaffeinated, gently roasted, organic, and sustainably farmed coffee beans due to their busy schedules and the greater accessibility of unhealthy beverages in recent years. Numerous cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, and eateries have started to provide menu items made from the aforementioned varieties as a result of the increased popularity of decaffeinated coffee.
Moreover, rapid urbanization and work-centered lifestyles have increased people’s awareness of and dependence on giving their bodies the proper kind of sustenance that is free from any concentration of adulteration. As a result, it is anticipated that the decaffeinated coffee market share would rise.

Additionally, coffee made in compliance with Fairtrade standards encourages commercial partnerships that are primarily focused on communication and openness in order to create more equity in international trade. These partnerships, which also support sustainable growth, enable better trade conditions for decaffeinated coffee producers.
Although organic decaffeinated coffee can be a bit more expensive than traditional decaffeinated coffee, many consumers are willing to pay more for the assurance that comes with knowing their coffee is organic.
The demand for decaffeinated coffee is expected to grow as more people learn about the benefits of organic coffee. With the absence of the traditional caffeine buzz, customers can now enjoy a cup of decaffeinated coffee. In order to promote decaffeinated coffee and educate consumers about its benefits, coffee companies have started to invest money in marketing campaigns.

China’s economy slows sharply as ‘zero COVID’ pummels activity
China’s economy slows sharply as ‘zero COVID’ pummels activity
China’s economy slowed sharply in April as Beijing’s ultra-strict “dynamic zero COVID” strategy dragged consumption and industrial production to their lowest levels since early 2020.To get more china economy news today, you can visit shine news official website.
The deteriorating economic picture comes as authorities have imposed full or partial lockdowns on dozens of Chinese cities, including the financial capital Shanghai, where more than 25 million residents have been under severe restrictions since late March. With millions of Chinese confined to their homes, retail sales last month dropped 11.1 percent compared with the previous year, sharply worse than March’s 3.5 percent contraction, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Monday.
The figure marked the biggest decline since March 2020.
As lockdowns forced factories to suspend operations and disrupted supply chains, industrial production fell 2.9 percent from a year earlier, compared with a 5 percent gain in March, marking the largest decline since February 2020.
China’s job market also took a hit, with the nationwide jobless rate rising to 6.1 percent in April, up from 5.8 percent, marking the highest rate since February 2020.
The poor figures pour doubt on Beijing being able to meet its ambitious target of 5.5 percent growth in 2022 and are likely to fuel fears of the world’s second-largest economy contracting this quarter. The data might be only the start of the recession,” Alicia García-Herrero, chief Asia Pacific economist at Natixis in Hong, told Al Jazeera. “Given the continuation of the COVID restrictions in May, the data will not be good in this month as well. We shall expect more rescue policies to support private and small enterprises, which are important hubs for employment, as unemployment increased to 6.1 percent in April.”
García-Herrero said the poor economic data would put pressure on the People’s Bank of China to lower interest rates to shore up growth.
“The probability of cutting rates has become much higher now,” she said. “If the policymakers want to do so, they need to do this quickly before the domestic inflation goes up too high. But even doing so, I think these measures will only have limited help for the economy.”García-Herrero said a second-quarter contraction would be inevitable without a clear exit from “zero COVID” policies.
Despite the growing economic toll and official pledges to roll out measures to help industries and small firms, Beijing has repeatedly doubled down on its controversial “zero COVID” strategy and offered little indication of any plan to permanently exit recurring lockdowns and border controls.
In a possible sign that draconian controls could continue in the longer term, China on Saturday withdrew as the host of the 2023 Asian Cup scheduled for July next year.
Fixed asset investment, which Beijing is counting on to prop up the economy as consumption and production sectors sag, increased 6.8 percent year on year in the first four months.
Tommy Wu, lead China economist at Oxford Economics in Hong Kong, said China’s economy could experience a recovery in the second half of the year, assuming authorities do not impose Shanghai-style lockdowns on other major cities.
On Monday, Shanghai authorities said they are aiming to broadly reopen the city and allow the resumption of normal life from June 1, after eliminating COVID cases outside quarantine areas in 15 of its 16 districts.
“While the government has prioritised Covid containment, it is also determined to support the economy through more forceful infrastructure spending, and targeted monetary easing to support SMEs, the manufacturing and real estate sectors, and infrastructure financing,” Wu said in a note on Monday.

ASIA CUP 2023: ACC will face huge loss if India-Pakistan match does not happen, Broadcasters may suffer heavy loss
In this year 2023, the 16th edition of the Asia Cup 2023 will be played inPakistan . Pakistan Cricket Board has taken up the responsibility of hosting the event, but in this whole matter, BCCI President Jai Shah’s comment triggered the tension between both countries boards. He says  that India will not become a part of the Asia Cup at any cost to Pakistan. India will become a part of the Asia Cup only if the tournament is played at any other country. Also, in previous India has shifted the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka or United Arab Emirates many times.
Pakistan’s demand
On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board is also adamant on its insistence. PCB does not want the hosting rights Asia Cup to be taken away from its hands at any cost. There have been statements coming from the side of PCB also that if India does not come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup2023 , then don’t come. Countering this, a statement was given by Pakistan, that we too will not send our team to ODI World Cup 2023.
Impact on ACC and Broadcasters
In such a situation, if the dispute between the two countries regarding the Asia Cup does not resolve, then it will have a big impact on the agreement between the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the broadcasters. Because If India does not participate in the Asia Cup, then the luster of the tournament will fade, which directly affects the broadcaster they will bear the huge loss.
‘Broadcaster contract could be messed up’
“The Asia Cup is not possible without matches between Pakistan and India,” the source said. The agreement is based on this. The broadcaster was shown that the both teams would meet each other at least twice to almost certainly reach the final. As seen during the 2022 Asia Cup held in the United Arab Emirates. In such a situation, if there is no match between the two countries, then this agreement will fail.
