MERLIN HEADCANON
Mordred's telepathy manifested unusually early. He started communicating his basic needs -hunger; sleepiness; fear; cold- to people in his immediate proximity when he was only eight months old, and by the time he was a year and a half he was able to transmit full sentences to anyone within a two miles radius.
He did not start talking out loud until he was eight.

Elyan is a medium.
While unable to use sorcery like Merlin or Morgana, he has the ability to perceive ghosts, see them and talk to them. He didn’t inherit or acquire it in some way; it was simply a gift he was born with, even though he never knew. He did see ghosts twice in his life, but he never thought there was something special in him, rather that the ghosts were simply letting him see them. The second was the young Druid whose camp was raided by Arthur and the knights.
The first was his mother, a month after her death.

Leon is Arthur's cousin through their fathers.
His mother, a lady in the court, "made a mistake" with King Uther's younger brother. The lady later went to a witch to confirm through a spell her baby was not her husband's child. No one ever knew; not Uther, not Arthur, not Leon, not his mother's husband. The King's brother suspected it, but he never asked, and he died in war when his child was three.
Had he been claimed by his real father, and had Gwen not been pregnant when Arthur died, Leon could have claimed Camelot's throne after Arthur's death, as the King's closest blood relative.

Morgana lost her virginity to Alvarr; she never quite forgot him. Her sister was the only person she confided in.
Morgause never told Morgana she had done the very same thing.

BBC MERLIN HEADCANON
It was Igraine, in the last days of her pregnancy, who chose Arthur's name. Uther wished to call him Bruta, expecting his son would have a destiny as grand as the first king of Camelot had, but the Queen insisted so much in the end he had to acquiesce. "Arthur" means "Son of the Bear"; Igraine chose it because the sigil of her family, one of the noblest in Camelot, was a bear rampant. In her heart, she knew already she didn't have long to live, and she wanted her son, who would have been raised in his father's court, to have something of her and of her kin.
