Impressive Mossley chasing fourth straight win
Tumblr media
⚫️ COVID-19: If you’re at a game tomorrow please adhere to all social-distancing guidelines. For more information, including admission, visit  individual club websites.
All NPL clubs are legally obliged to use the NHS covid-19 app. NHS QR posters —specific to each club — will be displayed to offer a simple and secure way for supporters to register that they’ve been to the ground. This will help NHS Test-and-Trace to identify people who may have been exposed to the coronavirus.
Players, fans, coaches, match officials, staff, volunteers and all other visitors aged 16 and above must provide their details. The app is available on Android and iOS https://covid19.nhs.uk/help-downloading.html
MOSSLEY's march continues with another home game tomorrow (Saturday).
The Lilywhites, who have a 100 per cent record from three matches, face Pickering Town  in an intriguing fixture. The North Yorkshire side were bottom when the Pitching In NPL first division north west was wound up in March but last week took a point from Workington, the club that was top.
Manager Dave Fish's only absentee is Ste Mason, who continues to struggle with a hip injury picked up at the end of pre-season.
"He's likely to be out for another week or so, but all the little knocks and niggles from Tuesday are fine," said Fish.
In the first division south east, GLOSSOP NORTH END welcome Cleethorpes Town looking not only for their first points of the season but their first goal after two heavy defeats.
Manager Peter Band has made two signings. Kyle Hawley, a 20-year-old striker, moves to the Amdec Forklift Stadium from Stalybridge Celtic on what Band calls a gentlemen's agreement, and left-back Arash Ahmadi, brother of Rio, from Norwich City.
Striker Joel Mills returns after missing the visit to Stamford. Midfielder Ali Sheriff and striker Yves Zama are still out but have started light training.
Injuries mean STALYBRIDGE CELTIC travel to Nantwich without three players: Nic Evangelinos (abductor strain), Matty Makinson (ribs) and Callum Harris (knee). With Kyle Hawley having joined Glossop, that means manager Simon Haworth must choose from a squad of 18.
Krisel Prifti is expected to return to the starting line-up after being left on the bench for Tuesday's FA Cup win over Bishop Auckland.
Star player Tom Pratt is a doubt for HYDE UNITED who have the daunting task of taking on South Shields at Ewen Fields.
Liam Tongue, who scored in the midweek cup victory over West Allotment Celtic, is suspended as is centre-back John McCombe. Louis Myers misses out but is close to a comeback while Janni Lipka is unlikely to return for another two weeks.
ASHTON UNITED's match has been postponed because a Bamber Bridge player has tested positive for covid-19. Fans who bought tickets online will be reimbursed and there is full information on the Robins' website.
CURZON ASHTON round off their pre-season friendlies by facing Halifax Town at the Tameside Stadium. Fans will not be admitted.

Nash fly Trophy flag for Tameside
Tumblr media
Non-league Football Preview
AFTER three months without a victory, CURZON ASHTON are now looking to make it three wins on the bounce. And after last week’s success over National League title favourites York City, who’s to say they won’t?
Tomorrow (Saturday) they are in FA Trophy third qualifying round action at the Tameside Stadium, and if they can beat Kidderminster Harriers they’ll pick up a cheque for £5,000.
Manager Mark Bradshaw has only one injury concern. Recent returnee Robbie Evans, who was man of the match in his comeback game against Telford, has suffered a setback with his ankle injury.
Callum Saunders has been allowed to join Nantwich Town on a dual registration to get some game time.
In the BetVictor NPL premier division, STALYBRIDGE CELTIC manager Simon Haworth has a fully-fit squad to choose from as his side end a run of four consecutive away games by hosting Buxton.
The Bridge will be attempting to consolidate their place in the top five as they look for their fourth victory in a row. Haworth has appealed to the fans to make some noise to spur on the home side and make Bower Fold an intimidating ground for the visitors.
Fresh from their 4-1 win over Bamber Bridge — their first Saturday home success since the end of August — HYDE UNITED should be in confident mood as they travel to bottom club Stafford Rangers who have yet to win at home.
Dave McGurk has a fully fit squad which has been bolstered by the signing of Tom Dean. The 6ft 4in former Mossley and FC United central defender could replace John McCombe who, the Hyde manager recently admitted, is unable to play every match.
Earlier today, former boss Darren Kelly quit as sporting director. The news was announced in a standard non-league football statement.
Even though Kelly’s resignation, which was attributed to the usual family reasons, came suddenly, fans may not have been altogether surprised. He lives in North Yorkshire and was hit hard by the sudden death of his friend, director Mark Worthington, at Easter. Over the summer he voluntarily relinquished the post of manager to take the newly-created role of sporting director.
In just less than four years at Ewen Fields, Kelly proved popular and successful. After initial problems, he steadied the ship at a club that had suffered three relegations in consecutive seasons and then took the Tigers back into the NPL premier division.
Stafford winger Andy Haworth and teenage striker Tom Carr will both feature in the ASHTON UNITED squad for the home clash with Nantwich Town.
Manager Jody Banim said: “We’re looking forward to the match. We haven’t played for a couple of weeks, so it’ll be nice to get out there.”
Casian Anghel is ruled out with an Achilles tendon injury but John Pritchard could be available within the next few weeks.
Jamie Rainford should put an end to MOSSLEY’s scoring problems. The prolific striker, who was hugely effective for Glossop a few years ago, has been signed from Runcorn Linnets and is likely to feature in tomorrow’s match at Brighouse.
The Lilywhites have also signed right-sided defender Matty Williams from Radcliffe.
Left-back Dieter Downey is ruled out with a knee injury.
Aaron Burns, Lee Neville and Liam Caddick have all left DROYLSDEN who visit Tadcaster in a rearranged fixture. Young defender Conall Arnold from Northern Ireland joins the squad.
Long-term injuries Shaq Clarke and Diego Lattie miss out again.
GLOSSOP NORTH END, who entertain Market Drayton in the first division south west, have brought back defender Keenan Quansah — last season’s managers’ player of the year — from Widnes.
Livesey Mason has been allowed to go to Darwen to gain some match fitness.

Banim hoping for Nineties repeat
Tumblr media
JODY BANIM has his fingers crossed that history will repeat itself tomorrow (Saturday) when his ASHTON UNITED side face Spennymoor Town at Hurst Cross in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.
The last time the Robins manager faced the Durham side in the competition was almost 21 years ago to the day when he was a 19-year-old Flixton player and scored all the goals in a 4-0 win at Valley Road.
“I hoping a bit of that rubs off tomorrow,” said Banim, who is hoping to lead Ashton to the first round for the first time since 1955.
This might just be the Robins’ year as Spennymoor will have to field a weakened side. Striker Andrew Johnson, midfielder Shane Henry, and defenders Stephen Brogan and Scott Harrison are all out.
Defender Callum Williams and midfielder Jamie Chandler face fitness tests and Jake Hibbs and Ryan Hall are cup-tied. Another defender, skipper James Curtis, has recovered from a head injury that needed ten stitches.
Manager Jason Ainsley told the Northern Echo he will probably add some youngsters to the squad and fill the bench. He added: “It’s been a bit of a nightmare sorting the injuries out this week in training, but I still believe we have a good enough squad to go and win.”
Banim’s main problem comes in terms of width. In what he terms a massive blow, Connor Hughes has damaged medial ligaments and faces at least six weeks on the sidelines. John Pritchard remains injured and Callum Dolan is in jail.
To remedy the situation he has signed England under-19s striker Jordan Slew, and Tadcaster midfielder John Lufudu. FC United keeper Lloyd Allinson comes in for Dave Carnell who suffered bruised ribs at Hyde United. Lufudu, however, is cup-tied.
“I know a lot about Spennymoor and I wouldn’t expect them to bring too many surprises,” Banim commented. “But it’s been hard to plan because they have so many injuries.
“Whatever happens, they have some very good players. Matthew Gould is a first-class keeper who kicks well and Glenn Williams  is probably the best number-nine in National League North.
“It’s hard to know what team they’ll put out so we’ll just think about ourselves and focus.”
If Ashton win, they will pick up £11,250. If they lose they get £3,750.
In the BetVictor NPL premier division, STALYBRIDGE CELTIC boss Simon Haworth again has a fully fit squad to choose from as his team look for their third win in a row in their derby clash with FC United at Bower Fold.
HYDE UNITED head for Radcliffe with a fully-fit squad hoping to end a difficult spell in which they have taken only one point from their last three games.
New striker Michael Elstone, who was recently released by Curzon Ashton, is not available to play. Midfielder Martyn Woolford’s days at Ewen Fields appear to be numbered. He is currently in talks with Boston United.
In the first division north west, DROYLSDEN ought to have a good chance of picking up their first win in a month when they visit struggling Kendal Town.
Shaq Clarke, Diego Lattie and Andy Langford are all sidelined. Lee Neville returns. Michael Brewster has left the Butchers Arms. Central defender Adam Rooney joins the club from Trafford.
It’s as you were for MOSSLEY at Marine as Ste Mason is still unavailable. Godwin Abadaki and Astley Mulholland could be back within a fortnight.
Bakari Coulibali returns to GLOSSOP NORTH END’s squad for the home clash with Spalding after completing a one-match ban. Moussa Samassa, Rio Ahmadi, Scott Kay, Mark West and Mohammed Sheriff are also in the reckoning after missing out in midweek.
Chinedu Uche joins the squad from Oldham and fellow midfielder Bev Burey has been recalled from Congleton Town.
CURZON ASHTON, who have no match, have released Luke Wall. Manager Mark Bradshaw added: “We’re looking to bring in one or two players by next weekend.”

Robins down but not out — Banim
Tumblr media
Non-league Football Previews
“WE’RE down at the minute but not out,” is ASHTON UNITED manager Jody Banim’s defiant message ahead of tomorrow (Saturday’s) home match against BetVictor NPL premier division leaders Matlock Town.
On paper, the Robins stand no chance. While they are bottom of the pile with only one point from four games, their visitors top of the table with a maximum return.
However, Banim is undaunted. He commented: “As soon as we get that first win we’ll have that monkey off our back and then we can really kick on. We’re a good squad with goals up top and experience at the back.”
The goals could be more important than ever tomorrow as Matlock have conceded only once in their four victories.
Two new players will feature for Ashton. Midfielder Callum Dolan has been signed on a month’s loan from Oldham Athletic and former Manchester City and Swansea defender Curt Obeng joins from Nuneaton.
In what Banim describes as the shortest signing in history, defender Dom Smalley has rejected a return to Hurst Cross and decided to stay at Wythenshawe Town. Two so far unnamed players have been told their future lies away from Ashton and Banim is hoping to sign a midfielder.
HYDE UNITED, the season’s surprise package so far, have a fully-fit squad to face Stafford Rangers at Ewen Fields as they bid to win their fourth consecutive game.
Reserve goalkeeper James Hodges broke a wrist during the warm-up on Monday and is likely to be out for at least two months. He will be undergoing surgery next week.
A victory at Buxton would mean STALYBRIDGE CELTIC recording three league wins in a row for the first time since March of last year. Manager Simon Haworth has no injury worries.
Their lively start to the National League North season at an end, CURZON ASHTON visit Guiseley having failed to win any of their last three matches. They make the trip to Yorkshire without Mo Ali, who is on World Cup duty with Somalia, but 18-year-old wing-back Elliot Cooke, who made his debut against Spennymoor, retains his place in the squad.
GLOSSOP NORTH END, unbeaten in three, go to Belper Town in BetVictor South East.
French defender Moussa Samassa, signed from Ramsbottom — and on a dual registration with Curzon — is expected to go straight into the team.
Tom Rose has left Surrey Street. Kyle Wych has returned to Oldham.
In the north-west division, a home victory over Kendal would go a long way to helping MOSSLEY erase memories of last weekend when they surrendered a 2-0 lead over Widnes to draw in the FA Cup and then lost 2-1 to Droylsden.
Craig Roddan (work), Josh Ollerenshaw (army service) and Ryan Brooke (gash) come back into the reckoning and Jes Uchebegulam has been recalled from Stockport Town. Dieter Downey, Gary Gee and Paul Marshall are all unavailable.
Diego Lattie and Andy Langford are both doubtful for DROYLSDEN, at Brighouse, after suffering head injuries on Monday. Mike Brewster and Shaq Clarke face fitness tests and Lee Neville is sidelined with a damaged ankle.

South Shields don’t scare Canning
Weekend Non-league Football Previews
THE fact that South Shields are hot favourites to win the Evo-stik NPL first division north title doesn’t worry Mark Canning in the slightest.
GLOSSOP NORTH END’s new caretaker manager believes his side has more than enough talent to win at at Surrey Street tomorrow (Saturday) and become only the third club to inflict a league defeat on the Mariners this season.
“We won’t be there just to make up the numbers, that’s for sure,” said Canning. “Paul Phillips and Steve Halford assembled a squad that can compete with the top three. These lads can play good football and I’m hoping to get a nice little reaction from them.
“If the players listen, do their jobs and perform like they can, then there’s going to be some fun. We’ll be going out there to play football for 90 minutes and I certainly won’t be parking any bus.
Canning was appointed caretaker boss at Surrey Street on Tuesday, a day after Phillips and Halford were announced as co-managers of Buxton. He has the job until the end of the season. The Glossop board are inviting applications for the post and Canning admits it’s something he would definitely consider.
In the meantime, he has spent what he says has been a very hectic few days dealing with comings and goings. He has appointed former Bury, Hyde and Stalybridge striker Andy Bishop as his number-two, and signed goalkeeper Russ Saunders to replace Paul Phillips.
Jude Oyibo (who was also registered with Curzon Ashton) and Callum Chippendale have both joined their former managers at Buxton. James Aspinall has been recalled by Bolton.
Canning said: “I’m up against it as the transfer deadline is on Thursday but I do have plans to make signings and it’s not impossible that Andy will turn out.
“It’s been difficult to do anything so far because things have been very hectic and we didn’t have time to put seven days in for anyone. I also needed to know who was staying and leaving so that I knew what gaps needed filling.
“But as I’ve said, Paul and Steve left me a fantastic squad. They’re fantastic guys and I wish them all the best.
“If we can pick up some results who knows what might happen? You could say we’re going to get a baptism of fire tomorrow but isn’t that what football’s all about? Just watch this space.”
With freezing weather forecast for the weekend, there will be a pitch inspection at Surrey Street at 8.30am.
After unexpectedly losing at Ossett Albion in midweek, HYDE UNITED have received the good news that Luke Porritt will be fit to play against promotion rivals Bamber Bridge at Ewen Fields.
Porritt sustained mild concussion in last weekend’s victory at Droylsden, which man the Tigers had to travel to Yorkshire on Tuesday without any of their recognised wide men. Tom Pratt and Chris Sutherland remain injured.
Although DROYLSDEN have still not won a game in 2018 they have shown signs of a revival recently. After giving Hyde a torrid time last Saturday, they held Bamber Bridge to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday and were winning with 11 minutes left.
However, they will have to face Prescot Cables at home tomorrow without Danny Ventre, Alex Frost or Ben Barber, all of whom are injured. Dylan Smith is suspended.
MOSSLEY have signed midfielders Mike Jones and Tyrell Palmer on loan from FC United as they prepare to visit Brighouse Town.
James Blair returns after almost a year out with an ankle injury, Tom Dean is available after completing a two-match ban, and Fylde keeper Max Povey should start.
In the premier division, STALYBRIDGE CELTIC face mission impossible when they visit their bogey ground, Moss Lane, to play NPL champions-elect Altrincham.
Bridge have won there only once in 23 visits since 1992 — a 2-0 Cheshire Senior Cup triumph in 2003.
Manager Steve Burr has a fully fit squad to choose from as his team embark on a minimum 16 games in six weeks run.
Wide man Theo Bailey-Jones returns earlier than expected after suffering a hamstring injury in the win at Warrington in mid-February.
Jack Dyche comes into the mix for ASHTON UNITED who go to Stourbridge. The Scunthorpe striker has returned to Hurst Cross on loan until the end of the season.
Aaron Chalmers is the only injury absentee. Rick Smith has left the Robins to sign for Radcliffe Borough.
Manager Jody Banim said: “I’m really excited about Jack coming back as he’s going to freshen up the front three. We believe in him and he just needs to knuckle down and get some games.
“Previously he scored 18 goals in 36 matches for us, none of which were penalties. That’s a decent record for a kid of his age.
“As for Rick, he wanted to play and I couldn’t guarantee him enough games.
“Aaron’s injured but he’s not far way from a return. When he comes back it will give us a few good headaches in terms of selection. We’re not too far from full strength which is good because we’re getting to the business end of the season.”
Regarding Tuesday’s defeat at Coalville, Banim added: “We could have won. Obviously I’m disappointed because it kind of killed our momentum but we’re still third. We have to make the most of the games we have left.”
In National League North, CURZON ASHTON’s match at Blyth Spartans has already been called off because of a waterlogged pitch.
The Nash won’t relish having to travel up to Northumberland on a Tuesday night but the postponement gives more time for Niall Cummins (knee) and Matt Regan (groin) to recover.

Banim wants to knock Alty Robins off their perch
Weekend Non-league Football Previews
ROBINS take on Robins at Hurst Cross tomorrow (Saturday) when NPL leaders Altrincham visit ASHTON UNITED.
Alty, who are nine points clear at the top of the premier division, beat Ashton 3-2 at Moss Lane a couple of weeks ago and have lost only once in the league since mid-September. It was a night when United boss Jody Banim felt his team failed to perform, and he would dearly love to impress in front of a home crowd.
Central midfielder Sam Sheridan will not feature for Ashton under the terms of the agreement that took him from Moss Lane to Hurst Cross. Nick Evangelinos returns after recovering from a hamstring strain.
Striker Deane Smalley came on for 30 minutes at Barwell and could take a more prominent role for Ashton tomorrow.
It remains to be seen if key defender Tom Hannigan plays for Altrincham. A thigh injury means he has not figured since January 6 and he missed last weekend’s victory over Sutton Coldfield.
STALYBRIDGE CELTIC travel to Stafford Rangers aiming to extend their unbeaten run to five games and also to win back-to-back away matches for the first time since April, 2016.
Manager Steve Burr has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from with only Theo Bailey-Jones (hamstring) unavailable.
In the first division north, GLOSSOP NORTH END will be hoping to end a dire sequence when they face Atherton Collieries at Surrey Street. The Hillmen have lost their last four games, conceding 12 goals in the process, and have not won since January 20.
Lewis Lacy, Paul Phillips and Gary Gee will all miss the match but there is a chance Ryan White may return.
MOSSLEY could be unchanged for their home encounter with Trafford. International clearance has finally come through for Matty Purcell but he has been loaned to Winsford United for a couple of games to gain some match fitness.
Callum Warburton, who suffered an horrific leg-break in a Manchester Premier Cup tie at Ewen Fields 16 months ago, has resumed training.
HYDE UNITED have a clean bill of health as they aim to continue their long unbeaten home record in the league against Kendal Town, a game that will be watched by Seventies striker Alan “Nobby” Clarke who will be a guest in the Pete O’Brien Lounge.
Manager Darren Kelly says he has no injury worries. Chris Sutherland’s return appears to be progressing well and Big Khamsuk should be back in the squad after being left out for the midweek encounter with top-of-the-table South Shields.
Alex Frost remains the only player unavailable for DROYLSDEN who cross the Pennines to play Tadcaster Albion.
Resurgent CURZON ASHTON, who have taken seven points from their last three matches, including a 4-1 victory over York last week, are away to Southport, a club with an almost identical record and only one point ahead of them in the National League North table.
Manager John Flanagan has two doubts: Joe Guest (knee ligaments) and Ben McKenna who suffered a foot injury against York and is rated as 50/50.
Paul Marshall has resumed light training after undergoing an injection to help with a damaged heel.

Rowney returns for Curzon derby clash
Weekend Non-league Football Previews
THE so-called 330 derby rolls into Ashton-under-Lyne tomorrow (Saturday) when Stockport County visit CURZON ASHTON for a Christmas National League North clash.
Chris Rowney returns to the squad having completed his one-match ban in midweek when the Nash won 1-0 at North Ferriby. However, fellow midfielder Luke Clark picked up a slight hip injury in the same match and is only 50/50 to face County.
Tyrell Biggs, who has been suffering with a thigh injury for more than a month, has suffered a setback and is now not expected to make his comeback until mid-January. Another long-term struggler, Paul Marshall, has resumed training and should be available at the start of the new year.
In the Evo-stik NPL premier division, STALYBRIDGE CELTIC play their first home game in six weeks when they face Rushall Olympic at Bower Fold. During that time they have fallen to second-bottom of the table so a victory is of major importance.
The Bridge could field as many as three debutants, with loanees Chris Gallagher and Sam Sheridan featuring in a new-look midfield and Jake Turner replacing Joe Slinn in goal.
ASHTON UNITED have striker problems as they prepare to set off for Grantham. Matty Chadwick and Jack Dyche are injured but manager Jody Banim insists the club will manage.
Lanre Olapede and Jack Pritchard are both back in contention, and Josh Granite is running again and should be available for selection in the next fortnight.
In the first division north, new signing Aaron Fleming goes straight into the DROYLSDEN squad for the match at Radcliffe Borough. A midfielder with an eye for goal, Fleming was previously at Colne.
Otherwise the Bloods are very close to full strength. Jack Rudge is the only player still on the treatment table.
At MOSSLEY, who are home to Kendal Town, co-bosses Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison have been strengthening the squad. They have brought in young central defender Declan Evans from Chorley and are hoping to get midfielder Matty Crothers on a month’s loan from Curzon.
Rio Ahmadi is available to play, which means the suspended James-McLean Oppong is the only absentee.
For GLOSSOP NORTH END, who are away to Clitheroe, there may finally be a glimpse of light at the end of the injury tunnel.
Adam Jones is fit and Callum Chippendale may make it on to the subs’ bench.
Joint-managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford have also signed a clutch of new faces. Defender Brad Roscoe comes in from Ramsbottom and Gambian attacking midfielder Lamin Baldeh from Mossley. Luke White joins on loan from Bolton Wanderers. Lee Rick has been released.
HYDE UNITED face Scarborough at Ewen Fields in a match that could have a major impact on the play-off places. Both clubs have 36 points from 17 games but the Tigers — who are unbeaten at home in the league — have a much better goal difference.
Striker Karl Jones misses the match with a damaged hamstring and midfielder Jack Stockdill is also injured. Chris Sutherland trained on Thursday and there is a chance he might feature.
The Christmas period could be more crucial than usual for Hyde as it’s understood the success of Darren Kelly’s young squad has started to attract the interest of Football League clubs.

Two in as Hillmen battle injury crisis
Weekend Non-league Football Previews
HAVING ravaged the dressing room, GLOSSOP NORTH END’s run of injuries and illness has now reached the managers’ office.
Co-boss Paul Phillips has a suspected broken bone in his hand, which means that Abbey Hey keeper Eliot Wynne takes over in goal for tomorrow (Saturday’s) Evo-stik NPL first division north game at Colwyn Bay.
But Phillips’s injury is only the tip of the iceberg. Also missing are Adam Jones (calf), Lewis Lacy (ankle), Dale Johnson (back), Alex Perry (virus), Callum Chippendale (thigh), Jay Gorton (personal issues) and Liam Turner (virus), plus long-term absentee Matty Russell who has a torn quad muscle.
Mike Connor and Mark Haslam are both rated as 50/50.
Phillips and partner Steve Halford have responded by bringing in left-back Callum Spooner from Bolton Wanderers and may make another signing in time for kick-off. Spooner, who is the son of Bolton youth coach Nicky Spooner, was at Stalybridge Celtic last season.
“We don’t have a team at the minute,” said Phillips. “What we do have is more injuries than Tameside Hospital’s accident and emergency department.”
Domaine Rouse returns for DROYLSDEN, who finally won in midweek after four games without a victory. However, a calf strain means Ciaran Kilheeney is doubtful for the visit to Atherton Collieries.
At the moment (Friday afternoon) Colls are reporting that the Kensite Stadium pitch is playable and the game should go ahead.
Twelve months after leaving HYDE UNITED, left-back Kyle Brownhill has left Ramsbottom and returned to Ewen Fields. He goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s home clash with Trafford. Manager Darren Kelly said: “Kyle adds balance to our left-hand side and competition for places.”
Chris Sutherland is the only absentee. He had to be substituted last weekend after straining a calf muscle and the quick recovered that was envisaged has not materialised.
MOSSLEY have no match.
After a weekend off, CURZON ASHTON get back to National League North action with a visit to North Ferriby who are 12 points adrift at the foot of the table.
It’s effectively a case of one in and one out for John Flanagan’s men. Richie Baker returns after a hamstring injury but Chris Rowney has to serve a one-match suspension.
Tyrell McKenzie continues to struggle with a thigh/hamstring problem and looks unlikely to come back before the new year. Paul Marshall’s heel is showing signs of improvement and he is hoping to resume light training in about ten days’ time.
In the NPL premier division, STALYBRIDGE CELTIC head to Warrington — who lost their last match 5-0 at Shaw Lane — hoping for an end to their abysmal away form, which continued last week with a morale-sapping defeat at bottom club Sutton Coldfield.
It’s now 16 matches without a win on their travels for Steve Burr’s men and a whopping 58 weeks since they last tasted victory away from home on a Saturday.
Olly Roberts is the only doubt for the beleaguered Bower Fold outfit. The influential midfielder faces a late fitness test on his injured groin.
Weather permitting, keeper James Coates will make his debut after signing from Tameside neighbours Droylsden earlier in the week. Loanee Joe Slinn has been recalled by his parent club Port Vale as first-team cover.
Suspension completed, Aaron Chalmers returns to the ASHTON UNITED team that travels to Witton Albion. Makhosini Khanye, who received a straight red against Barwell, still has two games to serve.
Simon Woodford is away and also misses the match.
Manager Jody Banim said: “We’ve not been at our real best over the last couple of weeks but even so I don’t think we’re far away. We’ve carried on picking up points so we’ve not done too badly.
“I expect us to be back where we were a few weeks ago quite soon. In fact, I’m hoping that we pick up a gear against Witton tomorrow.”

Pritchard boost for Robins
Weekend Previews
AFTER six weeks out with a broken ankle, defender John Pritchard returns to ASHTON UNITED’s squad for tomorrow (Saturday’s) home clash with Rushall Olympic in the Evo-stik NPL premier division.
Manager Jody Banim commented: “John’s been at West Didsbury to regain some sharpness. We’ve missed him at the back as he was such a plus for us at the start of the season.”
Aaron Chalmers and Makhosini Khanye, both of whom were sent off against Barwell two weeks ago, are suspended.
STALYBRIDGE CELTIC travel to Sutton Coldfield for a game that has assumed huge proportions after the Midlanders’ 1-0 win at Farsley last week closed the gap between the two clubs to just four points.
Bridge will be without midfielder Olly Roberts (groin) and defender Ross Killock (muscle injury) as they look for only their second victory in 28 away games.
Striker John Cofie has left Bower Fold and signed for Derry City in the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland.
In the first division north, DROYLSDEN have a great chance to end their run of three consecutive defeats when they face bottom club Goole at the Butchers Arms. Dylan Smith and Callum Bagshaw are their only doubts.
The injury situation gets no easier for GLOSSOP NORTH END who are home to second-placed Bamber Bridge.
Adam Jones, Gary Gee and Calum Chippendale are all out. Mike Connor is suspended and Jude Oyibo is doubtful with a virus.
HYDE UNITED need a good win to raise them from the torpor that has affected them since their FA Cup first round defeat by MK Dons a month ago. Since then they have allowed a two-goal lead to slip at Colne, lost their first league match of the season at Clitheroe, and been knocked out of the Integro Cup by Ramsbottom.
Classy midfielder Big Khamsuk, who has a sore back, is the only absentee for tomorrow’s clash with Tadcaster at Ewen Fields.
MOSSLEY have a fully-fit squad for their visit to Ossett Albion.
CURZON ASHTON have no game.

Celtic nearing 60 players
Weekend Previews
STALYBRIDGE CELTIC face yet another tough fixture tomorrow (Saturday) when high flying Halifax Town visit Bower Fold for a National League North fixture.
They will have to take on the Shaymen without Bolton Wanderers loan duo Alex Honeyball and Callum Spooner who have been recalled due to an injury crisis at their parent club.
Joint-bosses Paul Phillips and Steve Halford have moved quickly to plug the gap, bringing in central defender Fraser Horsfall on loan from Huddersfield Town.
Skipper Matty Hughes is expected to return after recovering from the back injury that kept him out of the last five games. Danny Wisdom (ankle) is also available for selection.
Striker Chris Baguley, signed from Ashton United, is in line to make his Bower Fold debut as Celtic head towards fielding their 60th player of the season. Callum Bagshaw has been allowed to join Droylsden on a dual registration.
CURZON ASHTON have a clean bill of health following the sickness bug that laid low many members of the squad over Christmas. Manager John Flanagan, who was also a victim, takes a full complement to Tamworth.
In the Evo-stik NPL premier division, ASHTON UNITED will be looking to build on their Christmas victory over Warrington when Whitby Town visit Hurst Cross.
“That win’s put us in a good mood for tomorrow,” said co-manager Jody Banim. “We released players and made changes because we wanted to inject a bit of pace and movement into the team. We wanted people with the ability to press the opposition.”
Banim and partner Will Haining have a full squad to call on and have brought in young goalkeeper George Dorrington from Huddersfield Town as cover.
Richard Brannigan has left Ashton after parent club Macclesfield Town terminated his contract. Said Banim: “Chorley offered him virtually the same money so he couldn’t turn it down.
“We’re disappointed and we would have liked to know what was happening right from the start. But it is what it is.”
HYDE UNITED face a double blow ahead of their trip to Clitheroe in the first division north. The Tigers, who were unbeaten over Christmas with two wins and a draw, look likely to be without star striker Matt Beadle who suffered a deadleg in Monday’s victory over Glossop.
Winger Ryan White has been recalled by Bolton Wanderers. “He can’t play tomorrow but hopefully we’ll get him back somewhere down the line,” commented manager Darren Kelly.
Sam Fitton returns to the squad but it is likely to be another ten days before Ayrton Bevins regains fitness.
The Tigers have brought in winger Chris Sutherland from Macclesfield Town on a month’s loan, and are planning to announce another signing in the morning.
Attacking midfielder Joe Coffey, signed from Northwich Victoria, joins Callum Bagshaw in DROYLSDEN’s squad for their home game against Ossett Albion. There are no new injuries to add to long-term victims Shaq Clarke and Phil Clarke.
GLOSSOP NORTH END, shaken by their last-gasp defeat at Ewen Fields, could feature three new faces at home to Prescot Cables: defender Jonah O’Reilly from Skelmersdale, midfielder Paul Dugdale from Kendal, and Hyde United centre-back Adam Jones.
Nicky Platt misses the match through injury.
MOSSLEY are at full strength for their game at Colwyn Bay who have just appointed interim boss Phil Hadland as manager.
