We are teaming up with @72gallery for their upcoming exhibition Dead Boys 1977: The Lost Photographs of Dave Treat OPENING: Saturday, December 7th from 6-9PM Dec 7, 2019 - Jan 30, 2020 This solo exhibition by Cleveland native Dave Treat chronicles the early days of the Dead Boys who were to become one of punks most nihilistic and furious bands. Treat was asked to shoot the fledgling Dead Boys’ first ever promo shot, which yielded a now-legendary alley photo taken in the ruins of ‘70s Downtown Cleveland, which was re-created by Glenn Brown in the same location for the cover of the band’s classic Sire Records debut “Young Loud and Snotty.” While documenting the band, Treat accidentally crafted a stunning series of portraits of the then-bankrupted city, at a time when nobody—except the advance guard of punk—saw Downtown Cleveland’s decay as a fit subject for photography. Treat eventually entered the construction trades and raised a family in Solon, Ohio. While cleaning out a closet he discovered long lost negatives of Stiv Bators’ portraits and the band photos almost 40 years later. This is a unique opportunity to view rarely seen early photographs of what became one the rowdiest and violent punk bands of the era. #DeadBoys #DeadBoys1977 #DaveTreat #punk #punkrock #punklegends #StivBators #CheetahChrome #JohnnyBlitz #JimmyZero #72Gallery #TheCastNYC (at The Cast NYC) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5oDN3Olt6b/?igshid=10g1k2a20sld6

New Book!!! Just in!!! *Signed Copies* of ⚡️Dead Boys 1977 The Lost Photographs of Dave Treat ⚡️ In the mid 1970s, photographer Dave Treat was a friend and neighbor to members of the nascent Cleveland punk rock band the Dead Boys. When they needed press kit pictures, Treat and his camera were at the ready, and together with the band, he captured a series of stunning portraits—not just of a group of musicians, but of engrossing ’70s Rust Belt decay and a major city at the brink of ruin. Soon after the photo shoot, the band pulled up roots to move to New York, added a fifth member, and cut off their hair, so the photos were obsolete for promo purposes, and into the proverbial shoebox they went for almost forty years. The new book DEAD BOYS 1977: THE LOST PHOTOGRAPHS OF DAVE TREAT collects those incredibly rare images (Only one was ever published—in “Rock Scene” magazine, the alley photo that served as the template for the “Young Loud and Snotty” cover), selections from Treat’s series of intimate portraits of singer Stiv Bators, and early live photos of the band in concert, along with new commentary by band members Cheetah Chrome and Johnny Blitz, and essays by art historian Brittany Mariel Hudak and longtime Dangerous Minds culture blogger Ron Kretsch. The book is an astonishing document from the pre-history of one of the most seismically important movements in the history of rock ‘n’ roll, and an absolute must-have for fans of punk’s first wave.
