just to preface, pardon that some of this may not be cohesive. i made this a separate post because otherwise the collective review would be insanely long. and i wanted to keep a space where i just let my thoughts from each episode exist, so here it it.

ep 1-2 my goodness this man, hyun bin (aka ri jung hyuk in this drama) is dreamy as ever. *like swoons*. son ye-jin is perfect, i loved her in "something in the rain” and this character is completely different and i am loving it. this free easy going aide of this actress. she is adorable and i love how in a crazy situation the first thing she thinks is ‘you’re totally my type’ bc seriously a girl after my own heart.

now the concept is completely ridiculous but i’ll jump on the band wagon and live my best life bc i think this is going to be a unique concept that i fall for. the fact that she doesn’t listen to him and goes directly into north korea i’m like girl you’re crazy.

i love how they added the clips at the end of the episode and how he was laughing at her. precious how he’s already falling for her quirky side. i am intrigued to see where their relationship first started like how did they meet before how did he leave north korea and enter back in as a general captain?!? so many questions and i’m so excited.

ep 3-4.  kim ju-meok (captain ri’s company of 5) saying i haven’t seen any drama characters that don’t fall in love in that situation. hahaha same dude same. when the guy was spying, jung man-bok, and trying to keep up with the drama plot. hahaha

i loved when the ladies tried to see her and she made him act all sweet walking him out the door.

he said all nice things to the plant!!!

ep 5-6. his relationship with his fiancé is soooo weird. and her family must be super high up in north korea. same to his family though. his mom has an ostrich in her yard!!! i love how they got stuck on the train on their journey to pyeongyang. i love how he jumps to his feet to get her anything she wants. they’re precious together. i’m excited to see where it takes us bc now that the man on the run knows that she is there, there is leverage. he was the first guy she waited for TT. i’m really enjoying the little tidbit scenes at the ending.

he’s gonna keep a photo of her even though he said it was silly to get a momento. the clarification between destiny and coincidence.

ri jeong-hyeok do you want to be my destiny. ‘as long as you stay in my sight you’ll be safe, as long as she is in my sight i will protect her.’

ep 7-8. her character growth since meeting him is extensive and i love to see this side of her not as callused and closed off but rather vulnerable.

for once i had to protect you too.’

the heart on his uniform she stitched up.

it’s his brothers song. TT

him going to find her bc she might have been waiting in him. he’s not wrong. and her being concerned with him not being in the hospital bc of his injuries.

your life here might be shattered bc of me.

and i don’t like that.

she’s gets kidnapped. after all this. she even decorated a christmas tree and got him a gift.

held my breath for a solid minute after that gunshot.

ep 9-10. yes his freaking dad in these moments where i’m crying just provides the perfect comedic relief bc he can’t freaking believe what’s happening in front of him. “you make my heart flutter. the other dude.” even when you didn’t know it you saved my life. when he played the song for the first and last time for his brother.

how would i forget about a woman who feel from the sky? -jeong-hyeok

his brother was such a good person and got the medicine for his friends baby.

when they had to say goodbye to each other. and when their eyes met once again.

ep 11-12. this episode. i loved seeing how the comrades reacted to the daily living of those in seoul. they were too precious. absolutely terrifying that cheol-gang made his way into a security. like what kind of background check did they get?!? like. come on.  

cannot believe that jeong-hyeok found her in an echoing parking garage. it’s destiny.

seo dan got the term ‘sweetmeat’ from seri stop it!!

all of the almost encounters had me dying, while the boys were trying to track down captain ri. the gaming to ignoring the call for chicken.

they wanted to recruit kwang-beom for an agency. they’re like your cover was blown bro.

talking about a future when he didn’t go back. married with twins. and he’ll play piano again.

them dresses as south koreans got me like. my goodness. they’re too much. them all hugging was beautiful. he missed them all so much.

her mother left her at the beach. like what the even. her sister in law gave him her address what the even, this side of her family is wack.

they surprised her for her birthday. my goodness. this moment i’m weeping then it’s like dang that would have been cute.

i’ll be thankful the person i love is still breathing.

and it will be a good year.

ep 13-14. the couple rings.

our boys. slaying it. my gosh. when they’re all surrounding her after she was shot. and crying my heart broke.

i never played the piano. and i’ve never told anyone. until you crash landed into my word one day. that’s how i lived. but now i’ved changed. even if i have to worry about losing you, i want to have you in my life. even if it breaks my heart bc it’s a dream that can’t come true, i’d like to sincerely dream of a future. so please live. and listen to my words i still have stories that i haven’t told you yet. -ri jeong-hyeok

when she finally woke up and he ran in. the fact that the mole wire tapped the room while she was unconscious. and then the tape of her mom telling her and wanting to thank seri and ask for forgiveness, and also the fact that her oppa and sister in law wanted her gone...wack.

when he was showing her his scars and the boys walked in and thought something scandalous was up, i died laughing.

i love them together. “they’re curious about your face. i understand bc you look great from the back.” -seri with regards to the paparazzi posting a photo of him online.

the split second after cheol-gang died and ri jeong-hyeok contemplated ending his life, because he didnt know what would happen when he went back to north korea.

while seung-jung was hiding in the market after he ran away from his captors, and the orphans collectively sang that sad song to distract the officers and protect him.

when seung-jung gave seo dan the ring that she picked up from the store so he could give it to seri who gave it to the pawn shop, and he picked it back up and proposed to seo dan. i weeped, because why does this have to be so hard.

when the NIS was collecting data on the ‘spies’: purchases at internet cafe, downloading videos of his favorite drama star, chicken restaurant, etc.  i can’t.

him deciding to go protect her even though he missed his chance of leaving the north with his life. and that she would be the one crying for him once he died made him sad and happy.

seri would make the same decision again. to meet the people and keep the experiences she had. “the wind blows to move in, not to stay.”

the exchange at the boarder was all too much. they all had to say goodbye so quickly.

ep 15-16. her family is wack. thank goodness seodan was able to get her revenge and get all the information from the chinese gang to turn over her older brother.

he wrote her back in the bookshelf. and is sending her notes after he’s gone. her breakdown in the kitchen when she saw all that he left for her. and receipts.

them going for walks at the same time of day to have a shared moment.

all of captain ri’s men reminiscing of the good things seoul had. internet. electricity.

i love that seri made a limited edition product to pay tribute to the ladies that helped her in the north.

he got her a freaking plant. i can’t. she is carrying for the plant like a baby and taking it around with her. got to say nice things to it. i knew it the last thing she said was rihoseok. (honestly wanted it to be a tomato plant)

“season changed but messages kept coming.” i really love this.

“it was eldewiss let’s meet in the country where these flowers bloom.” tell me they meet. please. oh please.

when ri jeong-hyeok broke the news that he was moving on to become a pianist and that the new captain is not a handsome man. the ladies of the village faces just dropped. i can’t.

“he found me every time. and i’m sure he’ll find me again someday.” -seri

“edelweiss symbolizes precious memories. what should i do jeonghyeok? it’s impossible for me to herons your just as a memory. so even if we don’t meet this year, maybe next year. if that doesn’t work too, i’ll anticipate the year after that. until the day you find me i’ll be waiting and praying.” -seri

eun-dong saying he misses his sister. i love them.

Interview:  Glass Arcades

Hi lovers! Here at Fallen Love headquarters we periodically interview people that we adore in order to shine a spotlight on our wonderful pop planet. We post all those interviews right here for your education and enjoyment.

Glass Arcades is the sleep pop project of Anton Salmine from Cardiff, Wales. Fallen Love head Harley interviewed Anton through e-mail. Fallen Love Records: Who is Glass Arcades? Anton: Glass Arcades is me, alone, in a room, shyly mumbling into a mic, playing some guitar with the reverb turned up a bit too high, recording it in one take if I can, and regretting not re-recording it later. Everything's fairly quick, spontaneous and unplanned, and even though I might spend an entire day writing and recording one two-minute tune that nobody will ever hear, most of that time is just spent obsessing over what I've just come up with and listening to it over and over again until I get bored. I'm my own biggest fan but only in short doses. FLR: Is it a solo project born out of desire or necessity? What would your dream vision of Glass Arcades be? A: I first started writing music when I was around 13 but I never really got the response I wanted from my friends when I played them any of the songs I'd come up with. All my songs that I was going crazy about were the ones that no one seemed to really grasp at all. I had a few proper bands and side projects with other people but none of those ever seemed to really go anywhere, at least nowhere that I was particularly interested in personally. I do really love not having to consult anyone else when it comes to music and just having complete freedom to do ...whatever, basically. It does get a bit tiring, though, especially when it comes to dealing with marketing or promotion, which I really haven't done at all, nor do I have all that much interest in either. In a year or two I might eventually feel like playing some of this stuff live, even though I can't really envision playing everything all on my own in some lo-fi drum machine + guitar + vocals set up, no matter how enticing that sounds. I must say that I've recently been pretty obsessed with this live footage I found on YouTube of The Magnetic Fields playing in a pub in Philadelphia around 1996, which is pretty much how I'd want Glass Arcades to sound live — all I need is a cellist now I reckon! FLR: What inspires you to write a song? A: It's taken me an excruciatingly long time to try and learn how to write songs that sound personal but aren't. I tend to write a lot in the first person but there always seems to be a 'you' that it's directed at. Often it's the same 'you', sometimes it's a fictionalised version of an actual real-life 'you' or two or a million 'yous' but sometimes it's just me. FLR: What is the pop scene like in Wales? A: Most of the time I tend to just find myself taking the train to Bristol for gigs — it is the second indiepop capital of Britain (behind Glasgow) after all! I do still feel that the scene here across the Severn is pretty vibrant and (re-)growing. To me Cardiff is just the perfect place creatively, given how friendly and welcoming (not to mention cheap to live in!) the place is. I just couldn't imagine Glass Arcades happening in say London or Birmingham. Even though I'm not Welsh, nor is Glass Arcades really even a proper band, I feel like Glass Arcades is very much a Welsh band, if that makes any sense. My absolute favourite Cardiff band would be the brilliantly named and thoroughly underrated Joanna Gruesome — aptly described by someone as "HC twee." Besides that I'm always (perhaps way too) eager to recommend both Gorky's Zycotic Mynci (whose 1996 "Patio Song" was probably the closest that Welsh language indiepop ever got to the musical mainstream, charting at a whopping #41 on the singles list) and Ffa Coffi Pawb, the band that eventually evolved and got somewhat anglicised into the Super Furry Animals, before being sadly forgotten by most everyone. Obviously there's also a long and rich local pop history all the way from Tom Jones (whose childhood home in Treforest I used to live about ten houses away from for a while) to the [Manic Street Preachers] (I often catch the bus 26 from Cardiff to their hometown of Blackwood, though I've never taken it all the way up there — maybe I should).

FLR: What's your favorite arcade game? A: I think I must now sorely disappoint anyone who just googled "Glass Arcades" excepting to read an insightful interview from a bearded bespectacled builder of artisan arcade machines made of glass and shit by saying that I don't think I've ever even been more than three feet into a gaming arcade in my life. I'm not strictly morally opposed to the idea, though, so if anyone wants to, they can buy a life-long subscription to everything I ever release by taking me out to play some arcade games. FLR: Tell us about a memorable nightmare you've had. A: It's not really a nightmare but I keep having this recurring dream where all the water, landmarks, cars, and people around me just disappear all of sudden. After I'd spent a lot of time around Europe last summer, in one of these dreams I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be Hamburg, Helsinki, London, or Cardiff Bay but I was just mindlessly walking about in a desolate post-apocalyptic urban environment, everything covered in jungle and desert where rivers and seas used to be. The "scripts" to most of my dreams tend to be more concerned with establishing the setting and atmosphere rather than the (mostly non-existent) narrative aspects or the passage of time. Sometimes there's one or two people involved as well but I tend to lose track of where they were by the end of the dream... And well, at the risk of sounding too Morrissey, I had a dream where a friend of mine died and nobody told me until two weeks afterwards. That was pretty distressing. I feel like Glass Arcades is not so much dream-pop as falling-asleep-pop. I write most of my lyrics when I'm about to fall asleep. I hate editing. That seems to give everything the mildly dreamlike quality of lacking any sensible structure, sentiment, or grammar. I'm currently in the process of trying to learn how to write with both of my eyes open. FLR: If you could time travel to 1991 but only stay for one night, who would you see in concert? A: I was born four years after that and I've spent a disconcertingly huge part of my life pondering that exact question. It's basically a full-time job for me now. I reckon seeing [Jesus And Mary Chain], [Dinosaur Jr.], and [My Bloody Valentine] on the same bill would've been pretty intense but I'd probably realistically (well, as realistically as you can for a question that involves travelling 26 years in time) go for Suede, still with both Bernard and Justine on board, playing some sweaty club in North London before they released "The Drowners" and got huge. My absolute favourite musical experience ever was seeing them do Dog Man Star from beginning to end at the Royal Albert Hall in 2014. My feet and toes were aching from the new boots I'd bought the day before, I'd lost my ticket in the train, bought a new ticket from some lad dressed as Wally off of Where's Wally?, got sunburnt (in March!), and basically cried my eyes, my lungs, my heart, and whatever was left of my central nervous system out when they played "Stay Together" as the final encore. FLR: What's one question you've never been asked in an interview that you would love to be asked someday? A: This is technically only the second interview I've ever given, unless you count the time when they came to our school to ask 8 year-old me and my classmates questions on our circadian rhythms for an article on school start times on the newspaper. I suppose I still wouldn't mind if you asked me about that but I think I'd love just about any excuse to go on about Momus, green olives, or the Posadist International. (I'm not even being purposefully absurd — those are like my genuine main three interests in life). You could also ask me "Where can I download and stream all the latest Glass Arcades releases for free or even donate something if I want?" FLR: And finally, what does 2018 look like for Glass Arcades? A: 2018 isn't looking too bad at all for Glass Arcades. I'm really excited to hear what I come up with but I'm afraid I can't tell you what it sounds like yet as it's yet to happen. Accounts

AAAFx differs from most brokers in offering clients an ECN account model. There is only one account type for retail clients, without any of the gimmicks which many brokers typically use to promote spurious distinctions, although there is a choice of platforms. Opening an account with AAAFx requires a minimum deposit of $300. As AAAFx operates an ECN model, clients are charged both a spread and a commission on all transactions. Spreads are variable and begin at a low of 0.2 pips on the benchmark EUR/USD currency pair. Commissions are of course fixed and equate to another 0.8 pips on EUR/USD which means you can expect to pay about 1 pip for every round-trip trade in the EUR/USD currency pair. This is competitive, and in fact for a deposit of $300 is truly good value. Houshin Engi 100 Questions!

There are SPOILERS!

I did this seven years ago (my god...) but I’m re-doing this because I can.

1. What is your name? My online nickname is Ariana. 2. When did you get into Houshin Engi? Around when I started university. So around 8 or 9 years ago.

3. Did you read it in Weekly Jump magazine? Or the tankoubons? Or both? I read the scanlations by SnoopyCool. 4. Do you own all 23 volumes? Sadly, no. But I hope I have the space/money to obtain them someday. (They’re actually on sale for a good price at Book Off, I just don’t have the space atm) 5. Do you own Houshin Taizen? No. 6. Do you have the special Houshin Taizen that came with Akamaru Jump? I wish. But no, I do not. 7.Do you want a Houshin Taizen 2 to come out? Yes! 8. Did you watch the anime? I’ve watched the 1990s anime all the way through at least once; I’m currently watching the remake it’s not great 9. Did you tape record it? I burned all the subbed episodes of the 1990s anime on five dvds... Felt bad about it and recently bought a complete series, official DVD set. I’ll likely buy the complete series DVD set for the remake as well because I love HE that much even though the anime remake is kind of. Eh. 10. Give your honest opinion on the last episode. To be honest the second half of the old 1990s anime has been nearly completely wiped from my memory. I don’t know how I feel about the remake’s last ep as it hasn’t aired yet, but I’m praying it provides some decent closure. 11. Do you own mp3s of the opening and ending songs? Yes.

12. Do you buy the soundtrack albums? No. I really should, shouldn’t I... 13. If you answered ‘yes’ to #12, what is your favourIte track? N/A 14. What Houshin Engi merchandise do you own? Unofficial merch: Like 12 doujins. Official Merch: A bunch of acrylic keychains, and hopefully that Taikoubou prize figure, the nendoroid, and the mini plush doll.

15. Have you ever bought any of the Senkaiden games? I have the Senkaiden ni II game for wonderswan (downloaded). 16. If you answered ‘yes’ to #15, which ones have you bought? refer to answer above 18. Could you name all the characters in Houshin Engi? I don’t think I’d ever be able to remember everyone’s names. 19. Favourite male character(s)? Taikoubou, Taiitsu, Gyokutei, Tenka. And far too many others but those are my usual top faves. 20. Favourite female character(s)? Yuukyou, Sengyoku, Ryuukitsu Koshuu, and Ko Kibi! (This answer hasn’t changed at all in the past 7 years lol) 21. Which is your favourite Taikoubou outfit? I used to like his post-Chou Koumei arc outfit, but now I think I prefer his original outfit slightly more. The post-Chou Koumei outfit seems a little... too much to me now. The gloves on that outfit really annoy me for some reason. 22. Your opinion on Youzen’s outfit during the fight against Jyoka? It’s fitting. 23. Your opinion on Fugen’s shoulder-revealing shirt? how does it stay on??? 24. Have you ever imitated Dakki’s speech pattern? Nah, I don’t really like faux-cutesy speech patterns. 25. If you could transform like Youzen, who would you turn into and what would you do? I honestly don’t know... lol 26. Which act/chapter is your favourite? The Chou Koumei battleship arc still remains one of my favorite arcs to this day. 27. Which anime episode is your favourite? For the 1990s anime: The one where Taikoubou fights Raishinshi using the drunken fist technique. For the remake: Episode 10... it’s painful but it’s probably the best episode of the remake so far. 28. Which volume cover is your favourite? Of the fancy tankoubons, the last two volumes. 29. Which title — be it volume title, chapter title, or episode title — is your favourite? I don’t pay attention to them enough lol... 30. Have you ever cried while reading Houshin Engi? No, but some parts of the manga did make me feel emotionally drained. 31. Do you still buy the calendars? I kind of want one but eh, I can live without them. 32. If you answered ‘yes’ to #31, do you keep the old ones up? refer to answer above 33. What is your favourite quote, and who said it? “Let’s go flying to the land of rainbows on my ferrari!” —Doukouson. (my answer still hasn’t changed lol) 34. Do you have a favourite romantic pairing? Ko Hiko x Kashi. (He loved her so much...) 35. Say anything you want about that favourite pairing? Out of the (very few) confirmed romantic pairings in HE, I just love that Ko Hiko is portrayed as a man who loves his wife that deeply (and that she loved him that deeply as well). 36. Why are you into that pairing? refer to answer above 37. Have you thought of a perfect song for that pairing? What song, and by whom? I’m not really the type to think up pairing songs... 38. Which houshined character do you want resurrected? *slams fists on table* All the Juunisen members and also Tenka.

39. Which character made you think “I’m glad s/he wasn’t houshined!”? Taiitsu. And Bukichi. 40. Which of the Konron 12 would you like to be scouted by? Taiitsu would definitely be the most “fun” to have as a teacher. Fugen or Kuryuson (Dokouson’s master) would also be good because they both seem pretty nice and laid-back. Also Gyokutei because he’d be a good teacher (I can’t believe I initially forgot about him orz) 41. What are your reasons? refer to answer above 42. Suupuushan, Kokutenko, Kokukirin. Who would you want to ride? Suupuu! He would be the best conversational partner.

43. Do you have any friends who like Houshin Engi? Thank god for the HE discord group. 44. Who’s your favourite Jyuttenkun? Kinkouseiba! Her design is A+ 45. Did you like “Ennui Academy”? It was good as a gag; but honestly, if this was an actual manga series and not just a three-page gag it’d probably be kind of insufferable. 46. What’s your favourite non-romantic pairing? Bukichi and Suupu’s friendship in the latter part of the series is adorable. 47. Which do you like better; the Dakki Sisters or the Beautiful Sisters (Venus and Co.)? The Beautiful Sisters! 48. Do you want Roushi’s suit? Sure. It seems useful. 49. Name one paopei you want. I’d love to have a mini-version of the Zansanken (Gyokutei’s sword) if only to chop up ingredients quickly. Also, Youzen’s Koutenken because... how could you turn down a fluffy, giant white dog that you can pet and also use to attack people with if necessary? 50. What would you use it for? refer to answer above 

  51. Who is the strongest character, in your opinion? Fukki. 52. What is your reason? He freaking beat up Jyoka, who was the strongest being in the HE universe. Do I need to state any other reason? 53. Which character makes you go, “I’ll never forgive him/her!!”? Outenkun 54. What colour do you like on Taikoubou’s hair? Black. 55. Name a master-disciple combo you like. Gyokutei and Youzen. 58. Which is your favourite splash page? The one of Fukki under the waterfall. 59. Taikoubou + Outenkun = Fukki. Did you easily accept this fact? I was spoiled but yeah. Sure. 60. Did the entrance of Fukki affect your opinion on Houshin Engi? No, although tbh I’m still ambivalent about Fukki’s entire existence. 61. Do you think of Taikoubou, Fukki, and Outenkun as three seperate people? Yes. 62. Where on Taikoubou’s body do you think Outenkun’s paopei’s mark appeared? I know this question was asked for all the perverted minds out there. I’m just gonna say it was probably on his hand. 63. Who would you want to be houshined by? I would rather not die if I could, thanks. 64. Who would do you want to houshin? Ryogaku; he’s the one that deserved it the most. 65. Which of Dakki’s many outfits is your favourite? It’s been 7 years and I still like her retro-space outfit (reference to Space Channel 5) outfit the most. 66. Is Venus scary? Only if you get on her bad side. 67. Which paopei made you go, “That’s terrible!!”? Rikukonhan. I think it’s pretty much unanimous. 68. What is the colour of Chibi Youzen’s horns? Gray. (I think that’s what they are in the anime?) 69. What cup size is Dakki? C. Any bigger would be kind of ridiculous. 70. Who’s your favourite Colourful Trio sennin? Taiitsu! 71. Your opinion on the brand new sennin world? It’s fitting for Taikoubou’s ideal of what a senin world would be (no interference in the human world) 72. What is Fukki’s hair colour in act 201? White. 73. Ask yourself a question concerning Houshin Engi. What does this question even mean 74. Your response to that question? ???? 75. In your opinion, is Nentou in love with his half sister? Probably 76. Did the Sennin World War leave a deep mark on your heart? The page where Taikoubou cries has still got to be the most hard-hitting two page spread I have ever seen in my life. 77. Do you own any Houshin Engi doujinshis? Yeah, I have about a dozen because I have a serious problem 78. Kichiku, hentai, yaoi, shounen-ai, general. Which doujinshi genre do you have the most of? I have the most shounen ai doujins, but I really prefer gag doujins. 79. Do you make Houshin Engi doujins? I wish I could, but sadly I can’t draw. 80. Taikoubou’s alien form (lol) 83. Who’s the hardest character to draw? As much as I like Taikoubou, he looks like an absolute pain to draw. I like his outfit design, but it is kind of a mess. 84. Have you ever done Houshin Engi cosplay? No, because everyone’s outfits are so complicated it looks like it’d be hard.
