South East APC consults prominent Igbo leaders, meets Obi of Onitsha

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South East have kicked off consultations with prominent Igbo leaders towards making inroads into the zone. The South East National Vice Chairman of the party, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu on Thursday led the party’s Zonal Organizing Secretary, Dozie Ikedife, a former senator representing Anambra North, Chief Emma Anosike and the Vice Chairman Anambra APC, Emma Ekwuaju, on a courtesy visit to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, at his palace. Describing the monarch as a man of excellent qualities, the APC leaders said the visit is based on the respect the people have for him, and the role he plays in leading the people aright. Arodiogbu, who addressed the monarch on behalf of the leaders, said despite the seeming disapproval of the party by the Igbo, the surest way to link up with the centre and enjoy the dividends of democracy was to support APC. He assured that party has tremendous respect for the traditional institution. He said: “In my consultation into Igbo land to make the APC an acceptable party in the South East, we must consult the likes of Igwe Achebe owing to the strategic importance of his throne and the good people of Onitsha. “We have come here to associate ourselves with one of the finest rulers in Igbo land, and given such pedigree as paraded by the Obi of Onitsha, we know that Igwe Achebe is a man of several exceptional qualities. Qualities men like us would always love to associate with. “I must say that I am indeed awed by the level of intelligence and background knowledge of the Obi of Onitsha on various topical issues of Nigeria especially in the spheres of economy and security. “Igwe, let me state that the APC under my watch will always respect and consider traditional rulers as important storehouses of wisdom and would regularly seek out such priceless counsel at all given times.” Achebe, who received the party leaders, thanked Arodiogbu and his team for the visit and wished them well in their consultations. By • Olalekan Fagbade Eight officers arrested dwtained for assaulting Man accused of stealing manh**d The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has disclosed that it has detained eight officers for assaulting a man accused of stealing manhood of two people in Abuja. Director of Public Relations of NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, made this declaration while speaking with DAILY POST on Sunday. DAILY POST reports that a man accused of stealing manhood of two people was seen in a video being assaulted and beaten by some NSCDC officials. The incident occurred at NSCDC headquarters, located in the Sauka area in Abuja. In the video, the man was seen being slapped several times and hit with sticks and hard objects by the NSCDC officials. The man’s face was swollen, and blood was gushing out during the incident. Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfWA) in its reaction, enjoined the Nigerian government to arrest and prosecute the officers who assaulted the man. AfWA Director, Dr. Leo Igwe in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday described the incident as a sad development. Igwe in the statement insisted that the officers acted unprofessionally and against the law, adding that the erring officers did not make efforts to confirm the allegations against the suspect. Igwe said, “Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers assaulted a man for allegedly stealing manhood of two other men at the national headquarters of the security organization in Sauka in Abuja. In a video that was circulated on social media, officers of the NSCDC could be seen beating and brutalizing this man commanding him to ‘return it’ (manhood). “To this end, the Advocacy for Alleged Witches calls on the government to arrest and prosecute all NSCDC officers who assaulted this innocent man in the video. The government should ensure that these officers answer for their crimes. It was painful and heartbreaking to watch as officers hit, kicked, and maltreated a man they were trained and paid to protect and defend”. Afolabi while speaking with DAILY POST, noted that all the 8 officers who were on duty when the incident occurred have been detained. He added that all the officers are currently facing disciplinary action at the headquarters of the organisation. He said, “It is a case of missing private part and it happened at Sauka and one of our officers was around when they were about to move him so as not to kill him. But, the mistake they made was that they put laws into their hands, they beat the guy in the premises instead of bringing him to the office for interrogation. “We are on top of the matter sir and as I am talking to you, the 8 officers are already in detention and the commandant general has came up with a disciplinary committee to investigate the case and the 8 officers on duty then. “At NSCDC, we are fully committed. You know that out of 30 eggs there will always be a bad one. He returned from the Senate to continue his job as Chairman of SUBEB under former Governor, Ben Ayade. Governor Bassey Otu has also sworn in Ededem Ani, son of former minister of finance in late General Sani Abacha’s government, as the Commissioner for justice and attorney general of the state. The former Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, Eramus Ekpang as Commissioner for Information. Dr Helen Agan Isamoh, one out of the six females screened, has been assigned the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs while Prince Eka Williams will handle Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.
