Part B - Technical Aspects
Links to sources:Examination of the Art-Form of Comics
Comics: How we understand the graphic novel and comic is that it must be viewed as a whole medium unto itself. In other words, the text is as important as the visual accompanying text.
What are Comics Capable of?
Comics are capable of eliciting a deliberate response by the audience, through the combined use of aesthetics and languages. Images are conveyed sequentially to the viewer (intended audience) to produce an intended response by the author.
How do Comics Work?
Comics work by stimulating our visual sensibility through images accompanied by writing. The best way to describe this process is that pictures and images are received information. You really do not need to be educated to understand an image. The message is found in the visual instantaneously. Writing on the other hand, that accompanies the visuals in comics is considered perceived information. It takes time to digest, understand and formulate opinions on written text. There is a process of understanding at play, from the abstraction of letters, to language, to comprehension. The understanding gained from reading text and language is therefore not as immediate as the visual image.
How do we Define Comics and their Basic Elements?
We define comics as not one specific object, but as a whole medium. Comics therefore are the juxtaposition of sequential images with written text in which are produced deliberately to convey an aesthetic response to the viewer.
The invention of printing pushed comics into the forefront of the media because it brought art, dialogue, and writing to the public forum. While the comic medium can have many repercussions, it is generally agreed that it is a text and pectoral medium that occurs together, and must be a series of sequential images for it to be considered a comic. Comics are reinvented constantly, and will forever be a changing, morphing art form that obscures one true definition.
Closure: What Happens Between the Panels?
Closure happens in comics several ways, as it is a transitional craft using visuals and narrative to provide meaning and substance to an idea, story, or mood an author is trying to convey to their audience. Blinking is a style of closure that is moment-to-moment. Minor ideas in a greater topic need smaller transitions.  Action-to-action is a style of closure reserved for a single subject that progresses through transitions. Subject-to-subject is the form of closure that is used in Bitter Medicine: A Graphic Memoir of Mental Illness the most consistently. This manner of closure involves staying within a scene or idea in which the reader’s involvement is necessary to bring meaning to the transition. Scene-to-scene is a transition model in the comic craft, used to navigate the reader through time and distance. Aspect-to-aspect is a type of transition that transports the reader with a “wandering eye” through different relationships of the meaningfulness of a place, idea or mood.

I have a racecar. Now what? via /r/cars
I have a racecar. Now what?
So for the longest time, the biggest car guy in my family and my life had been my uncle. He loved the smell of race fuel. He loved the burning rubber and the passion involved motorsport. He loved the elegance of a modern performance vehicle and the brashness of good ol' American muscle. At the end of the day, what it came down to was that he loved cars.
He gave his all to automobiles. He worked long and hard at his desk job to afford his hobby. He spent countless hours in and around the garage that he and his buddies rented out. There were classic Fiats converted for classic car race days. There were 70s muscle cars refined for the modern day. There were street cars and race cars galore.
Last year on June 1, my uncle passed away. He was in a coma for five months after falling down the stairs while out for the afternoon with his friends from work. He passed away after a bout of pneumonia and many operations on his possibly brain-dead body. I miss him a lot. I miss the time I could have shared with him. More than anything, I miss the moments where he shared his passion with me, and, in doing so, ignited my own. There is so much I could have learned from him about life and about cars, but of course, that isn't possible anymore.
Since the group of my uncle's buddies wasn't able to keep up with the garage, we had to sell a lot of my uncle's cars (and redistribute car parts - 5 or 6 guys could own all the different parts they put together in a project car) on behalf of my aunt, his wife. We got rid of his F06 M6 (which he once offered to let me drive when I was 14 and both unlicensed and inexperienced) and a lot of his project cars.
However, what we did keep (to my knowledge, there may be more, as I was not too involved with the liquidation of the garage) was an untouched E39 M5 (see flair) and two fox body Mustangs. One was kept completely stock. The other had a full race conversion to SCCA spec (I don't know which class if that is applicable).
The car looks absolutely different from the stock 'stang. Under the hood, there's (from what I could see) aftermarket parts everywhere: radiator, intake, headers, intake manifold, etc. The interior is stripped, with a race dash and a full cage. There's a switch panel, removable steering wheel, a five panel rear view mirror, bare bucket seats for the driver and a passenger, pins for the hood and trunk, harnesses, and, really, it's the whole nine yards.
I want to continue his legacy and track this car. Here are my questions:
What work do I need to do on the car to make it ready for a track day?
What is the car eligible for as far as actual club races?
Is this car worth keeping up for anything other than the occasional day at Laguna Seca (closest track and his favorite)?
Thanks for reading this absolute mess of a post. I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I sure hope it is.
