GALTx eNews: Many Thanks to GALT's 2022 Emergency Heroes!
About three weeks ago, we launched GALT's Emergency Fund 2022 to cover some extraordinary medical expenses and utilities that arose when we were in a cash crunch. An anonymous donor quickly offered $10,000 in matching funds, and we met that goal in the first week! Then, two more generous donors, Lori & Bill Elmer, pledged another $5,000 in matching funds in memory of Rock (pictured), the greyhound who “started it all” for them.
We are pleased to announce that 24 emergency heroes stepped up to donate $500 or more by July 31st, for a total of $13,000. While we are sincerely grateful to these heroes and our matching fund donors, we also appreciate the 66 other donors who gave between $25 and $250, for a total of $4,600! In total, we exceeded our matching goal by $2,600 and raised $32,600 including our matching funds!
We are grateful to all who contributed to this effort, and we are humbled and honored by your dedication and commitment to helping GALT’s hounds! Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts! Special thanks to the following Emergency Heroes who donated $500 or more. You can read comments about their inspiration from them and see their hound photos here.

GALTx eNews: GALT's Emergency Fund 2022 Needs You!
Inflation is soaring and donations are down. Poppy (pictured) and the other 7 Injured Reserve hounds have run up unusually high vet bills lately, totaling over $29,000 so far this year. In the Texas heat, our air conditioning bills for the kennel are sky high, running almost $800 for May. With the temps running 95 to 100 recently, our next bill will likely be even higher. We are having a moment between major fundraisers where we find ourselves in a cash crunch.
To get us through, we are soliciting donations of any size, hoping that at least 20 people will step up with donations of $500 or more, in order to raise a minimum of $10,000 by July 31st, 2022. If we meet this goal, an anonymous, generous donor has agreed to donate $10,000 more as a match for the GALT Emergency Fund 2022. Please be a GALT Emergency Hero by helping us make sure we secure these matching funds by making your donation to the Emergency Fund today!
Unless you request anonymity, our Emergency Heroes making donations of at least $500 will receive special mentions on GALT’s website and in our eNews. If you make your $500 donation in memory of your Rainbow Bridge hound or in honor of a current grey, we will also post one or two photos and a few brief comments on what inspired your donation. Of course, we realize that not everyone can afford a $500 donation right now and appreciate donations of any size to help us meet our goal. We we are so grateful for your support!

GALTx eNews: Third Quarter Flew By Like A Fast Hound!
The days are getting shorter and the holidays will be here before we know it. Let’s take a quick look back at what we accomplished in the third quarter of 2022:
Our adoption teams in Dallas and New Mexico helped 26 hounds find their forever homes! As we said goodbye and wished them all well, we welcomed 16 new arrivals, including five surrendered by their owners, five from the racing industry and six from shelters. These newcomers included four hounds from the Ellis County landfill (Zeke, Emma, Ethan, and Elliot), three owner surrenders (Blondie, Jeanie, and Snow), and Palmer (pictured), all of whom needed extensive medical treatment to recover from injuries, heartworm, and tick borne disease. As we start our fourth quarter, we currently have 39 hounds in our program, six still awaiting foster homes.
Thankfully, our supporters really stepped up to help us meet our increased medical needs by raising $38,790 (including $15,000 in matching funds) for North Texas Giving Day on September 22nd! We also felt the love of our Greyhound community with the support of our Spanish Wine and Tapas Tasting, GALT’s Summer Sizzler on-line auction, GALT’s Emergency Fund fundraiser, Summer Parklane Jewelry fundraiser, and of course, the Great Global Greyhound Walks in Albuquerque and Plano! At the Albuquerque walk, we raised $1,000 from raffle ticket sales and nail services generously provided by Purple Paw Pet Care. Special thanks go to Donna Howland for making the walk a tremendous success and to Cody Paitl and Cassy Freedman for their significant donation.
We can’t thank you all enough for your continued support. Please stick with us as we continue to face expensive challenges, such as installing heaters at the kennel before the cold weather gets here. We are also looking forward to the upcoming arrival of retired racers from Ireland. Stay tuned for more news as we continue our mission of “No Grey Turned Away!”
