#I don't hate ghost but man they aren't doom and seeing people recommend them to ppl looking for doom is disheartening

Took a look at the Doom Metal tag and holy cow, I normally don't get pissy over music taste or metal subgenres; I.e. I don't give a shit if you think fucking Bring me the Horizon is the most hardcore band out there or that Amon Amarth are Viking Metal (they aren't btw). However, I absolutely give a shit about people declaring Ghost Doom Metal.

GHOST ISN'T DOOM METAL!!!

Why does it matter? Because it's misleading. Ghost possesses none of the characteristics that define Doom Metal.

Those characteristics being:

1. Downtuned guitars

2. Slowed-down tempo

3. (often) distorted vocals either as a vocal style (black doom, death doom, funeral doom, some gothic and stoner doom) or artificially (mostly stoner doom)

4. (sometimes) trying to achieve a dense, fuzzy sound often using further distortion

Ghost has none of that. So imagine someone listening to this (mind you, this is as doomy as Ghost gets) :

and then trying to find something similar and they see "Oh, Ghost is doom metal so I'll look for more doom metal."

And then they come across: Traditional Doom Metal

Epic Doom Metal (I just had to choose this bc the video is one giant meme)

Gothic Doom

Stoner Doom Metal

Funeral Doom

Death/Doom

There are more Doom Sub-sub genres but my point stands: That person just wasted their time because Ghost isn't a doom metal band and considering how niche of a subgenre Doom Metal is, considering how much misinformation surrounds it, can we at least end this particular misconception? If you want something that sounds similar to Ghost, try Blue Öyster Cult and thank me later.
