Can I ask what your ✨Aki journey✨ was like? I’m a Aki girlie but you clearly love Aki more than any blog I’ve ever seen (purrr) When did you start becoming interested in him? Was it an aHA moment or did it develop over time? I’m really curious!!! What inspired you to start this blog? I live, laugh, love backstories 🫶🏾❤️‍🔥
YES I would be so happy to answer this!!!!!!!
so before I read chainsaw man, I knew next to nothing about it, I wasn't really a manga reader in general to be honest but I started getting into it because I wanted to get caught up with jujutsu kaisen after finishing the anime. when I did, I really enjoyed jjk, I wanted to read more manga and a friend suggested I read chainsaw man because it's similar. I was like okay... a lot of people are into it... it looks cool... why not.
and when I started reading and I got to that third chapter and I saw aki... I literally said to myself: yeah, he is going to be my favorite. because he's exactly my type — the suit, the hair tied up so it's long and pretty when he takes it down, the SMOKING??? THE PIERCINGS????? I thought his hair was silly but adorable, his personality was stern but quirky and likable, his kon power was so cool. he was just so cute and hot and definitely my type of character.
but really, even though aki was always my favorite character from the start, my obsession truly began when I finished the manga. aki's arc is just so good... I fell in love with him the whole way through but especially after the manga was over... I loved watching him grow as a character, he just feels so real and relatable personality wise and story wise. he's immensely flawed but kindhearted to his core. he's so human. I love how he's emotional and soft and the conclusion to his arc is genuinely my favorite thing in any piece of media ever, it's so bittersweet and compelling. (and I'm a mess for that bittersweet shit okay)
anyway after I read chainsaw man for the first time I was feeling a mix of emotions between "wow that was the greatest thing ever" and "what the fuck did I just read" but more than anything I yearned for more aki, and so I read it a second time almost immediately after, and then the aki brain infection just grew worse and worse.... was screenshotting every panel of him... I read it a third time... a fourth time in the colored version to collect more panels......... I started my blog over a year ago to post fanfic and rant about aki and the rest is history

Chapter 3 Trial: Consequences (#40)
The screens go black, and the overhead lights strengthen again. Still pretty quiet in here. A little sniffling, but no commentary. I guess this execution wasn’t as brutal as the others. I guess it was a pretty deserved execution, anyway.
I guess I’m getting numb to it at this point.
“...”
“...”
“Hmph. What a worthless way to dispose of a sinner.”
“J-j-j-just stop talking, frick.”
“Ah, a tragic loss of beauty...!”
“...”
“Hummmmm... I guess we go back now...?”
“I’m sure done here.”
“Right. Let’s...”
Mahavir takes a few plodding steps towards the elevator but has to stop and catch himself on the wall.
“Oh... Do you need help?”
“You say as if a creature as feeble as yourself could aid him.”
“Fair point.”
I sidestep over to Yuki.
“I’ll take care of him. Can you look after Aki?”
“Hummmm...? Okay.”
“Thanks.”
I’m not sure what goes on in the rest of the room besides footfalls and muttering, but I catch up with Mahavir pretty quickly. My ears may be ringing from the gunshot, but I’m in much better condition than him.
Honestly, how did he manage standing that whole time, let alone contributing? Maybe the fire wasn’t as bad as it seemed by the time we got there?
Doesn’t matter. Just have to keep moving along now.
“Hey. I’m going to put your arm across my shoulders. Lean on me as much as you need to.”
“Mm.”
Can’t tell if that was agreement or not.
Regardless, I do what I said and start walking. Once Mahavir detaches from the wall, enough weight shifts onto me that I have to stop to keep my knees from buckling. I suppress an “oof.”
"........"
And this is why Kanagi took care of it earlier. Oh, well. She’s too tall for this gesture to be comfortable, and Mahavir’s conscious enough I don’t think he’d like being carried around like a sack of potatoes again. I’ll survive.
We still move slowly enough that the first group has already gone upstairs, leaving us to wait on the elevator. Four of us are left, not counting Monochap, who’s hanging off awkwardly to the side.
“........”
“......”
“...”
Well. This won't be an awkward ride at all.
The elevator arrives with a ding. Mahavir and I hobble in first. Yuki presses the button for the first floor once everyone's in. The doors close, and the elevator starts to rise.
“The cafeteria is probably closed by now... But I do have some mochi in my room if you want any, Aki...”
“Oh, or if either of you do...”
“.................”
“I’m fine, thank you...”
“Yeah, same. You two have all you want.”
“Okay...”
“.............”
Aki worries me, but I don’t know what to tell her. Did she really think we should let an innocent person die just because Tamiko had good intentions? There was a strain of logic in there somewhere, but most of the time it just seems like she can’t think straight.
Well, I can’t think that straight right now. Don’t know if I can sleep, but I really need to try. As long as somebody’s keeping an eye on Aki, I don't need to worry about her. For now, I just have to get Mahavir to his room without collapsing.
The elevator doors slide open, and we trudge out. The other two are around the corner before we’ve made it past Room 104. Either I’m wearing out fast, or Mahavir’s shifted more of his weight onto me.
“You hanging in there?”
“Yes... Apologies. I’ll try to pick up the pace...”
“No, it’s fine, just checking.”
We make it into the east wing in time to watch Yuki shut her door. Mahavir stares after her.
With the rumors confirmed, I’m sure he’s upset with her. I guess the only reason he didn’t chew her out already is his own health. And while he takes prudishness to extremes, he has a point. This wouldn’t have happened if Yuki hadn’t played her part. At least if I assume Arthur was, in fact, somewhat of a decent human being.
But then what? He was going stir-crazy as heck in here. He would have found someone else eventually. And then Tamiko would have found out eventually and... Then we'd be right back here. It may have taken a lot of people screwing up to make this happen, but the end result is all her.
Mahavir turns his gaze back to the hallway when I look to him.
“Don’t give Yuki too much grief, okay?”
“Mm?”
He blinks a few times before seeming to catch up mentally.
“Mm.”
Still can’t tell if that was agreement or not.
I shake my head.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if she was already blaming herself for this. So if you feel the need to tell her what’s what, go easy on her.”
“Or just... don’t.”
“...”
Don’t know if he’s mulling it over or just too tired to think. I’m just about to that point myself.
We’re almost to his door before he speaks again.
“It’s too late for that.”
“Hmm?”
“Reprimanding has its place, but... I was only trying to keep people from getting hurt. And it’s too late for that now.”
We trudge up to his dorm, and he starts digging around for his key.
“..."
"Wrong as she was, she had a point. Oshio, I mean.”
“There are many, many people who’ve suffered abandonment and mistreatment they never deserved, merely because the wrong person came along. We can never be perfect judges of people, so those sorts of mistakes are bound to happen no matter how hard we try.”
He stops to cough and drops his key in the process. Muttering apologies, he shifts his weight to the wall.
“I got it.”
I duck down to grab the key and unlock the door. He thanks me and takes the key back, but he doesn’t step inside.
“Perhaps, if she were a perfect judge of people, and her methods were the only way to stop the misery, then it would be a worthwhile mission. But even then...”
“...if 'those guys' were destroyed before they had the opportunity to hurt anyone...”
“...I never would have been born.”
He slips inside his room and shuts the door before I can stop him. I don’t hear any spectacular thuds afterwards, so I think he’s doing all right in there.
I let out a breath, roll my shoulders, and head to my own room. It’s only a matter of time before I’m lying in bed staring up at an unlit ceiling.
“.................”
It’s hard to figure out, isn’t it? Who’s in the right. What lengths you can go to. What on earth you’re supposed to do if you’re not content to sit and watch injustice unfold all around you.
If you have to do something, what makes your course of action "right"? If it’s just intent, then Tamiko was justified. If it’s just results, then we’re all screwed, because no matter how smart we think we are, we can’t predict every last consequence of our actions.
So, somewhere in between? Something else entirely? How are we supposed to decide...
I...
I’m too tired to be thinking about this. Whatever makes actions right or wrong, you can’t punish people for crimes they haven’t committed and call it justice. I’ll just leave it at that.

The Character Swap Fic [[Chapter 1]]
Aya sifted through her clothes, folding them and packing them into boxes. Her and Maria were moving for the second time in three years, this time to a place they would hopefully stay for good.
Her good friends Aki and Ib were coming along for the ride, for which she was very happy. The three of them, along with Maria, had banded together into some kind of resistance group against the Homeworld gems and those that had joined them.
Her mother had started a group like that long ago, but it had fallen apart even before she was born. But it seemed that now they were starting anew, and maybe this time they could make a difference.
She was startled out of her thoughts as her hand grabbed onto something that was decisively not a piece of clothing. She pulled it out, only to discover what appeared to be some kind of odd hand mirror. She didn't recognize it at all, so she assumed it to be one of Maria's that she accidentally dropped while helping her put away her clothes.
She turned it around to look at the back, and was deeply surprised to find a gem attached to the back of it. It appeared to be a slightly damaged Lapis Lazuli, and had for some reason been attached as part of the mirror.
She had only seen a Lapis Lazuli one other time, and this one had an uncanny similarity to it. But it was impossible that this was the same one, so she dismissed it as just being a fluke due to them being the same gem type.
Aya started to go downstairs and ask Maria about it, but thinking about it for a minute, she decided to wait. She carefully placed the mirror on top of all of her clothes in a box, then taped the box shut.
Double checking to make sure she had everything she needed, she picked the box up and went outside, putting it in the car with the rest of her things. She then poked her head back in the house. "Maria! I'm done packing!" She called.
"Alright! Wait there for a moment Mistress, I'm almost ready." Maria replied from another room. After a few moments, she came out with the rest of her luggage, putting it in the car. "There. I think we're ready to go. Did you get everything you need?"
"Mhm, I'm ready!"
"Alright then, shall we go? Ib and Aki are waiting for us to pick them up." Maria said, climbing into the car. "We must get there quickly if we expect to finish unpacking in time for dinner."
"Yeah, let's go." Aya climbed into the car and buckled her seatbelt.
As they drove, she began thinking about the mirror again. There was a gem trapped inside of it. How had it gotten there, and why was it in her drawer? She considered opening the box and taking the mirror back out, but she realized that would cause too much of a ruckus.
I'll just have to be patient. . . .
Later, after picking up Ib and Aki, the aforementioned girls were helping Aya unpack her things. Or rather, were doing all the unpacking for her, as Aya was distracted with the mirror she had found earlier. Aya, sitting cross legged on the floor, was staring at the gem in the back of the mirror. She really wanted to know who it was, but taking it out would be dangerous, right? She hesitated, beginning to put her hand on it.
"What's that, Aya..?" Ib had sat down next to her friend, looking over her shoulder at the mirror. "Whoa, is that a gem in there?"
"Mhm. I found this in my drawer when I was packing, i don't know how it got there or who this is, and I'm not really sure what to do with it. The gem looks kind of like someone’s I once knew, but that's impossible."
"Take it out of the mirror!" Aki called from the other side of the room, where she was setting Aya's belongings in their designated places. "They can't be happy being trapped like that. Nobody would be."
"I want to, but.. What if it's dangerous?" Aya replied, looking back at the mirror. "Well, we've been through a lot already, Aya... One gem shouldn't be that hard for all three of us to deal with together, don't you think?"
"She has a point." Aki, finishing what she was doing, came and sat by the two younger girls. "If they do turn out to be dangerous, we can just poof and bubble them. No big deal. If worse comes to worst, I still have my bat."
"I guess that's true..." Aya closed her palm around the gem, hesitating for a moment. She looked up at Aki and Ib, then back down at the gem. "Here goes." She yanked the gem out of the mirror, setting it down a foot or so in front of them. She retreated back to her friends, as the gem began to glow and rise into the air. The person who the gem belonged to began to take form, standing with his back turned to the girls. He stood where he was for a couple of moments, then turned around to face them.
"Thank you, Aya..."
Aya recognized him almost instantly as the boy she had met several years ago, one of her father's experiments. She had thought he'd of disappeared when the curse was lifted, but apparently not. "I remember you...!" She took a few steps towards him. "I thought you were dead?"
"That was a lie.." He admitted. "I'm not dead, never was. I was one of your father's experiments, but for some reason your mother decided to save me."
"Why didn't you tell us that from the beginning?? That probably would have saved both you and a us lot of trouble." Aya replied.
"I thought it would be better if you went on believing I was just another one of the corpses brought back by the curse.... I didn't know how you would feel if I told you the truth."
"..Okay. But, how did you end up trapped in a mirror..?"
He glanced at the door for a brief moment, then at Aya. "She-"
"Mistress! It's time for dinner, tell Ib and Aki and come downstairs!" Maria's voice interrupted whatever the boy was about to say.
"Okay, Maria!" Aya called, then looked back at him. "What were you saying?"
"I'll explain later, I should go." He glanced at the window that looked out at the beach and the ocean beyond it. "Can you meet me out there later tonight, by yourself? I need to tell you some things, for your own safety."
"Uh.. Okay, I guess?"
"Okay. Bye, Aya." He left through the window for some reason, and disappeared.
Aya went to the window and looked out. "...Well you could have just used the door." She said, blinking. She turned around, to see her friends staring at her. "Uhh... Yeah, I might have left out a few details when I told you what happened with my father...." . . . GUESS WHAT GUYS? It’s done. Bahahahaha. I can't believe I actually wrote this, but here it is. This isn't gonna be the end of it, obviously. My current plans are to start it from Lapis' arc and take it all the way through the rest of the arcs all the way up to Jasper's corruption, and maybe more later if I manage to get roles for some other characters. As you can see here, it's only going to be very loosely following what happened in the SU canon, but I think this ought to be fun to do. Please excuse OOCness, I never written as any of these characters in my life except for Ib and Aya, and even then I haven't had quite enough experience with them to completely nail down their personalities. I'll probably get better at it going forward. For other information on lore and such, refer to this post: Origins and Updated Info I hope you enjoy this weird monstrosity, lmao. . . . @ilia-braginski @superpapermariotrash @chippani @cxsaltwater @chlorinebrownies

Genre : Supernatural, drama, school, action, fantasy
Episodes: 12
Studio: MADHOUSE
15 years ago, God abandoned his creation. Admitting failure, he left humanity to its fate and moved on. 15 years ago, with nowhere else to go, the dead got stuck in the living plane and had to go on as if nothing happened. 15 years ago, with nowhere to come from, babies stopped being born. The world goes on but it’s slowly grinding to a halt. In order to regulate itself, supernatural beings known as gravediggers started to appear. In this godless world, they are the only ones that can lay souls to rest by giving them a true and proper burial. Is there any way to stop the slow and investable decay that is bound to take over everything? And how is it that Ai is only 12 years old?
Sunday Without God is a flawed but pretty exploration of our relationship with life itself. It’s a disjointed cautionary tale of the dangers of holding onto wishes too tightly. It ferrets out hope in the oddest places. I have no clue how Sunday Without God ended up on my watch list and that’s quite fitting. It’s the sort of series that comes out of nowhere.
such a colourful nowhere
Visually, it’s quite beautiful. I do encourage you to take a look at the imgur gallery I put together as it’s the best way to truly appreciate the art through the series. It’s not so much original as it is luxurious. Rich in detail and lush with colours. The animation isn’t quite as impressive, but it holds its own. I was surprised to have never even heard of such a good-looking series. It’s a show that often exists on the borders of the day. Early morning and sunrise scenes get followed by dying sunsets or still twilight. As such, you often get the chance to see environments bathed in unusual colours and ever-changing shadows.
The soundtrack is actually quite good as well. Not in the sense that you’re likely to listen to it on your way to work but it was very fitting and often added to the scenes. I think it’s important for me to mention the voice acting. It was good, very good. Clearly above average for just about every character. However, the standout for me was Toyosaki, Aki as Ai (the main character). I’m not the biggest fan of overly cute slightly squeaky voices but she managed to make it sound not only pleasant but oddly powerful. It was a great performance that brought what could have been a very bland, even annoying character to a whole other level.
the style is quite shoujo
I will do my best to avoid spoilers, certainly all the major ones but if you truly want to go in without any details, you may want to skip this part. I will give my general impressions in the last paragraph.
As I was watching Sunday without God, I started comparing it to a Victorian play. There’s a stage quality to the writing. In my head, I dubbed it: Sunday Without God – A Tragedy in Four Parts:
great hair!
Part un: The Tragedy of the Man-Eating Toy
In which Ai is told a million sweet lies and one bitter truth
The first arc establishes the universe of the series in a dynamic and interactive way. This is crucial as the lore is fairly complex, if not downright convoluted and it’s absolutely crucial for the audience to understand the details if we are to follow along or form any bond with the characters. It was impressive and a very strong start. Despite being somewhat generic, Ai is very easy to get attached to and the series has a gift for quickly developing characters. I found myself caring rather deeply about the faith of people that had been introduced only an episode prior. In this, we see the faith of Ai’s hometown and hear ominous about the world beyond.
each arc has its own palette as well
Part deux: The Tragedy of the Necropolis
In which Ai meets and looses her very first friend
The fact that people are no longer dying isn’t a twist, it’s spelled out clearly in the first few minutes of the show. The implications of it, however, are staggering and explored in most detail in the second arc. Basically, when people die in Sunday Without God, nothing happens. The get back up, maybe they need to heal some wounds, and go back to their business. On a social/economical level, this is huge.
As the changes happened 15 years ago, humanity is basically right in the middle of trying to figure out what to do. The great city of Ortus is a reaction to the changes in the world and the mysteries it holds kept me binging episodes to get at the truth. Ultimately, the reveal was not as great as it could be, somewhat predictable, but still satisfying.
sounds like highschool
Part trois: The Tragedy of Highschool
In which Ai learns that adults are not to be trusted and neither are children
To me, this was the weakest arc. So far, the series had been mostly a suspenseful action mystery with a heavy supernatural aspect. Although all these elements remain present here, in structure, this arc is almost like a school-based comedy slice of life, complete with wacky bathhouse shenanigans.
That’s not actually a bad thing. The heavy ominous tone of the series was getting a bit oppressive and a lighthearted interlude was welcomed. And even though I call it the weakest arc, I didn’t dislike it. It was more underdeveloped than anything else.
We meet an assortment of wacky students we never get the chance to know well enough to care about and the purpose and existence of the school are just laid out in flat exposition making it seem like an afterthought. Compared to every other arc, this one was the shallowest but that’s probably because it was mostly a vehicle to introduce us to Alis/Alice (the subtitles spell his name out as Alis but in the series we see his name written as Alice several times so that’s what I’m going to go with).
s’okay
Part quatre: The Tragedy of the Comfortable Cage
In which a girl who has lost everything is asked to lose it again
By far the most emotional arc, this goes back to that thriller mystery vibe and the show is that much more interesting for it. The arc heavily depends on Alice and thankfully he is a very good character. Well balanced and flawed, he brings the viewer along in his own personal pleasant nightmare and I was right there with Ai desperately trying to save him.
That final episode was a roller coaster and may have been the strongest in the series.
Overall there are three general themes that resonate throughout the entire series. The importance of family and friendships, what life means for sentient creatures and continuous warnings of “be careful what you wish for”. At times it reminded me of Battle Angel Alita, a coming of age story of a remarkable young girl under very difficult circumstances, at others, it reminded me of Pandora Hearts, with all the symbolism and goth sensibilities.
It’s hardly perfect, there are plot holes and some slightly tedious melodrama at times. Scar’s character is great, but the narrative doesn’t know what to do with her and eventually saddles her in a dead-end b plot. It definitely a flawed series but it has some great moments. It also resonated with me and I’m very glad I randomly decided to watch it.
Also, for some reason the Sunday Without God universe is French. As in all the in-show writing is in french and generally pretty accurate. I’m not sure why though. It’s never mentioned or anything and everything gets translated but there you go. The end of the world is French… somehow I always knew that.
indeed
Favourite character: Scar before the parenthood bit (I guess that says something about me
What this anime taught me: be careful what you wish for – honestly if I hadn’t learned that by the end, there would be a problem with me.
The drunk mind speaks the sober heart
Suggested drink: Deathwish
Every time Ai mentions her father – take a sip
Every time anyone says “gravekeeper” – take a sip
Every time Ai calls anyone pretty – awww
Every time we hear about “15 years ago” – take a sip
Every time someone doesn’t age as they should – take a sip
Every time there’s an eye close up – get some water
Every time anyone’s wish comes true – uh hoh
Every time a male character has a traditionally female name – take a sip
Every time there’s a massacre (yes that happens a lot) – take a sip
Every time we see graves – stretch
I’m going to try to give you an idea of the visuals, as usual, Imgur and Pinterest have more!
