the cold night air felt crisp against your skin as you stepped outside to the balcony of your apartment, leaning on the railing with your cigarette dangling between your fingers. you look out to the bustling city below that stretched out like a sea of lights under the pale moonlight, feeling sonder arising within you as you take in the sights. 

you took a slow drag out of your cigarette, inhaling the nicotine that burnt with comfort in your lungs and exhaling a plume out into the air.

the sliding doors opened behind you but you don't bother to turn around and look. you know who's behind you anyways as he is the only other person who had access in your apartment. 

you heard footsteps coming up behind you. a shuffle from the man's jacket as he leaned against the railing right beside you, taking in the same scenery with half-lidded eyes and lazy posture.

"i thought you'd stop smoking by now."

you turned your attention to the voice. a voice of smooth timbre.

suna rintarou. 

you sighed. then took another whiff from the cigarette. 

"this is nothing, suna." you said as you blew out another puff at his direction, knowing that the man before you wasn't fond of nicotine or anything like that, hoping that he'd take the hint and leave you to tend to your vices.

he's an athlete. a professional volleyball player. of course he has to keep his condition in tip top shape and that includes avoiding any type of vices as much as he could. 

but suna didn't even flinch. not once. he stood there unmoving like a statue, letting the smoke curl around him like it didn't exist.

"what's going on?" he asked gently, unbothered by what you'd done just moments ago. 

"nothing that involves you." you replied, colder than you meant it to be. you hadn't intent for your tone to cut but the weight of everything that you'd been carrying lately made it harder to sound like anything else.

you puffed out another smoke. 

"thought you weren't fond of people smoking." 

"you're right."

"then why are you here?"

"to see you." 

that made you pause. his words were simple, casual. probably meant nothing to some people. but something the way he said it made you grip your cigarette even tighter. you forced out a chuckle, shaking your head with an unfamiliar pang on your chest. 

"you would go out your way to see me?"

"and i'd do it anytime in a heartbeat."

a heavy weight filled your chest, your heart slowing down and your breath getting caught up in your throat. you desperately needed to breathe.

so you inhaled from the cigarette once more, hoping it can give you a semblance of relief. 

you released another puff at him, hoping he would leave— to let the distance between you two grow. 

but then suddenly suna moved. 

before you could react, he leaned in— close. 

too close. 

and you felt his lips brush against yours. 

the kiss was soft. soft and sweet yet enough to steal the smoke straight from your mouth, giving himself a smoke-filled kiss. 

it was slow and deliberate. he was taking in every bit of it. 

you froze, caught off guard by the sheer boldness of it. but suna, of course, used this moment of opportunity to pluck the cigarette out of your hands, setting it away as he left your lips. all without breaking eye contact. 

"i told you to come see me whenever you feel stressed." he murmured, voice calm and steady like a rock on sea. 

you swallowed, jaw tightening. "i didn't want to bother you, suna." 

a faint smile played at his lips and his gaze was steady and unwavering, like comfort bathed in the soft light of the moon. 

"you could never bother me, y/n." he said, lovingly. 

and just like that, all the tension that had been weighing on your chest felt a little lighter. more free. 

freer than anything nicotine could ever give you.

no you're right! they are definitely still not good for your lungs bc they still have carcinogens :D so i really would not like to smoke consistently bc that's the most dangerous for your lungs but i've been wondering how poor of a decision it would be to smoke them very occasionally. like couple times a year?? yk?? or i've considered just buying them and literally just holding them without smoking them LOL or sharing with a friend who does smoke idk man

So huh, weird shit, i bought a Vape, the rechargable kind. I wanted to buy a cheap disposable one but they ran out of it so I ended up spending a bit more money for the blueberry maskking.

It's... Ok, my family actually liked that better than any of my cigarettes which is understandable. I liked the taste and how it felt, I might bring it with me more often. I get why they're popular.

I don't think I'll leave my cigars like my ma wants tho, but it's a nice smelling alternative. I would've liked a slimmer model but I'm not mad at the size, and I'm not spending big bucks on a smaller container of nicotine when I have other more important things to pay and take care of.
