#It would take a serious long-term concentrated effort on Mario's part for Luigi to feel the smallest bit of resentment toward him

Luigi is The Most Loyal MVP On The Planet
Mario has a dream to quit his construction job and start his own plumbing business? Luigi believes in that dream enough not only follow after his brother, but join him in investing their life savings in a commercial.
Mario is parkouring through an active work zone to get to their destination because the van won’t start? Luigi follows best he can, despite not being nearly as coordinated or daring as his brother.
Mario sees a city-wide plumbing emergency unfolding on TV in the middle of the night? Luigi is already letting himself get dragged outside to whatever craziness Mario is planning.
Mario’s jumping into a watery whirlpool spinning down an open manhole? Shuffling across an unsteady pipe over a precarious pit in a gambit to save Brooklyn? Luigi is terrified, but he follows close behind.
Despite how obvious it is that Bowser loathes Mario for traveling with his “fiancee,” Luigi proclaims his admiration for his brother in a fit of terror, with how much he misses him outshining any sort of rational thought.
When the final battle in Brooklyn erupts, Luigi hides in a dumpster. He is a frightened everyman caught in the middle of a battle between superpowers. He has no training, no power ups, and barely even any knowledge of power ups beyond what he’s witnessed. But then he sees his wounded big brother reenter the scene to face Bowser, and Luigi knows that he needs to join the fight too.
Mario takes up residence in a dimension that, to Luigi, has been filled with nothing but terror and mayhem? Of course he’s going to join him. They’re a team!
NGL, I’d fight a gorilla for Luigi too.
