#Jeanne d'Arc of India

I have no clue if you intend to ever do a write-up of Lostbelt 4, but I have to say: it feels so weird that Lakshmi Bai is written with so much more respect in Lostbelt 4 than literally anywhere else in the game.
I had one in the works but it kinda fell by the wayside—I might come back to it depending on how the time goes.
Lakshmi Bai is a pretty unfortunate case of being written quite respectfully in the Lostbelt where she appears and then every time after just sorta being boiled down to the basics of her situation. The fact that she looks like Jeanne because Takeuchi heard the name "The Jeanne d'Arc of India" once and went crazy with it is just the cherry on top.
At least 4 does her quite well, both from the perspective of who she is and how she'd react to someone like Holmes, and from the perspective of someone arguing the righteousness of destroying the Lostbelts.

The Identity of Freya's Demon
kicks door down [Akihiko voice] I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Spoilers for chapter 112 under the cut!
Okay okay okay, SO, in the new chapter that just dropped, Freya says this
Tumblr media
And looking at it, it seems pretty straightforward, right? Saint Germaine used a werewolf as the basis of her form, therefore, the demon is a werewolf.
Except.
Except except except! There's that little word there. "Form"
A werewolf was used as the basis for Freya's physical form. And if you look at her demon...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His clothing, his jewelry, and his manner of acting, speech, and silhouette...
Tumblr media
Nothing about him is very "werewolf," now is it? So, what is he??
Simply speaking, from the very first moment I saw him, I always thought he resembled the "Asura," a class of beings from Indian religions which, in its Buddhist context, can be translated as "titan, demigod, or antigod." They're a power seeking race who can possess either good or bad qualities, and are constantly locked in battle with the more benevolent Devas.
An important note to make here in relation to how this particular identity is relevant to Inner Wrath's actions is how, despite always being in battle with what we, from an outside perspective, would consider the "good" Devas, in the myths discussing their ferocious fights, the hostility portrayed by the Asura is spoken of with neutrality, neither possessing moral connotations or condemnations... Much like how Wrath as a sin is discussed within the context of Servamp as a shield one can use to protect oneself, or to hurt others with.
Another interesting tidbit is the idea some scholars have put forth is that the word "asura" may be related to the word "Aesir," with both meaning "lord, powerful spirit, god". Given Freya's VERY obvious Norse mythology theming, there's no possible way I could pass up mentioning this!
And finally... Y'all ready for the wild shot? The pièce de résistance? My number one find during all this fucking research (I lied, I already knew about this connection from playing Fate Grand Order of all the goddamn things, but I still looked into it FAR more because god knows that franchise plays it fast and loose with history)?
Smacks Servamp this baby can hold so many incredibly historical and mythological connections.
So Iduna has quite a bit of Jeanne D'arc references strewn about her character, but get this. There's a tie to Jeanne D'arc and Indian history, with Indian culture being from which the Asura originates, naturally.
Rani Lakshmi Bai, aka the Jeanne D'arc of India.
When the 22 year old queen refused to hand over Jhansi to the British, she valiantly fought off invaders even after she and her troops were vastly outnumbered. She later died on the battlefield, having fought alongside her people while dressed as a man. Her courage, strength, intelligence, led her to become an integral symbol for the fight for Indian independence from under British rule.
How's THAT for sticking a fork in it? ;3c

Third art livestream: Joan of Arc and Gilles de Rais, this time in monochrome India ink! We all know Jeanne d'Arc: a peasant girl who claimed God talked to her, made to lead the French army against the English in the 100 Years War, tried and burned as heretic and eventually rehabilitated and canonized, becoming the patron saint of France. Gilles de Rais, a French nobleman, fought alongside her, and like her was later put on trial; though not for fabricated accusations of heresy, but for well funded suspicions that he had kidnapped, sexually abused, tortured and killed dozens of kids. He was sentenced to death by hanging and is traditionally believed to be the inspiration behind the Bluebeard fairytale. Since I learned about Gilles' involvement with Jeanne's campaign, I've been fascinated by these two characters; how they crossed their paths and fought for a common cause, only to eventually go down in history one as a saint, and the other as a monster.

i'm trying to decide whether or not I want Sima Yi/Reines.. Lakshmibai looks really interesting. Mori Nagayoshi (FERAL PONYTAILS AHHHHFDKFSJDKSJ!!?!?!?!?!?! and i read his dialogue thingies and he just.. he wants a tea party so bad.. I WANNA GIVE HIM ALL THE TEA PARTIES?!)..
MORI NAGAYOSHI IS CUTE??? WHAT THE HELL? I hear a lot of good things about Sima Yi... Laksmibai IS neat, I was upset about her design looking like Jeanne until I found out that she's referred to as the Jeanne D'Arc of India. I mean, you could have given us an original design without defaulting to Jeanne's face though...? I'll take it...
