In a rather unexpected way, via OL's in-house training program developed together with Screen Scotland (the Scottish public authority competent for film & TV production) and the London based, privately owned Screen Skills. This program now includes BOMB, which is going to be shot simultaneously. I was, therefore, wrong to predict its slashing/demise and have no problem saying so. This is not the only training program of its kind in Scotland, as other TV series (River City, Good Omens) do exactly the same - they also lack OL's transparency and/or are currently closed for applications, so there's no way to compare wages or job criteria, for example.

Over a week of intensive fieldwork, Tatiana surveyed several key beaches in Constanța, including Corbu, Mamaia, Mangalia, Eforie Sud, and Eforie Nord, to assess the impact of marine litter on these vital coastal environments. This research was undertaken with the invaluable support of the mentor  Dr. Daniela Vasile and the dedicated team at GeoEcoMar.

The significance of this research lies in its direct address to a pressing environmental issue: marine litter. Our findings highlighted that while Constanța’s beaches generally displayed relatively low litter levels, plastic waste, predominantly from land-based sources, was prevalent. This is a critical concern as plastic pollution not only affects the aesthetic quality of beaches but also poses severe threats to marine biodiversity and ecosystem health. Our surveys revealed that beaches with high tourist activity, such as Mamaia and Eforie Sud, had the highest litter concentrations, underscoring the link between human activity and environmental degradation. This study emphasizes the need for enhanced waste management practices and greater public awareness to mitigate the impact of marine litter.

This is just one example where we have matched early stage research interests with the scientific work ongoing in the project. This summer we have funded and supported 5 other placements through the DOORS Early-Stage Researcher Exchange (ESRE). This is an international programme of collaborative research mobility activities, to foster and deepen connections within and between Black Sea countries, and international partners across Europe.
