La Ford ha apportato delle modifiche significative ai programmi produttivi di alcuni dei suoi modelli principali
La Ford ha intenzione di introdurre una terza squadra di operai nella fabbrica del Michigan. Il nuovo turno sarà composto da 1.600 operai: quasi 900 saranno neoassunti, mentre i restanti 700 arriveranno dal Rouge Complex di Dearborn grazie a trasferimenti volontari. L'incremento dell'organico di Wayne sarà funzionale a "sostenere il futuro aumento dei volumi programmati per le linee dei veicoli prodotti nello stabilimento" e sarà completato in estate, quando la produzione passerà da sette a cinque giorni e sarà soddisfatta da tre squadre al lavoro su due turni lavorativi giornalieri. Tra l'altro, l'Ovale Blu cita un altro modello ad alimentazione tradizionale che potrebbe beneficiare di un possibile aumento delle richieste di mercato. Infatti, la Ford afferma di "avere anche la capacità disponibile per 'scalare' la produzione" dei pick-up F-150 ibridi e a benzina "in base alla domanda dei clienti".
Meno elettriche. Al contempo, a Dearborn hanno deciso di ridurre i volumi dell’F-150 Lightning per "raggiungere l’equilibrio ottimale tra produzione, crescita delle vendite e redditività" e adattarli alla domanda. In pratica, le richieste della clientela non sono al momento sufficienti per sostenere gli attuali programmi produttivi e quindi è stato deciso di ridimensionare le relative attività industriali. Le scelte sono la dimostrazione - l'ennesima - che i piani dei costruttori per la mobilità elettrica hanno obiettivi sovradimensionati: lo ammette la stessa Ford, affermando di prevedere una "una crescita continua delle vendite globali di veicoli elettrici nel 2024, anche se inferiore rispetto al previsto". La decisione interessa il Rouge Electric Vehicle Center di Dearborn, dove dall'1 aprile sarà attivo un solo turno lavorativo, e circa 1.400 operai: in 700 si trasferiranno, come detto, a Wayne, mentre gli altri 700 saranno ricollocati all'interno dello stesso complesso industriale o in altri impianti nel Michigan sudorientale. In alternativa, potranno anche beneficiare del programma di incentivazione all'esodo concordato lo scorso autunno con il sindacato Uaw nel quadro del rinnovo del contratto di lavoro. La Ford, però, parla anche del possibile impatto su "poche dozzine" di dipendenti impiegati nelle fabbriche di componentistica destinata proprio alla produzione dell'F-150 Lightning; il quale, tra l'altro, sta subendo da mesi a un progressivo ridimensionamento. Per gli esuberi sono disponibili due strade: l'accesso al piano di esodo volontario, oppure la possibilità di un aiuto per il ricollocamento in altre aziende dell'area.
