Tips for Senior Citizens in Greater Noida to Prevent Dementia
Most senior citizens in Greater Noida dream of living a dignified old age, and having a sharp mind is one of them. It is natural to forget things as you grow older, but dementia is not just an aspect of the aging process. It is a medical condition that can destroy memory, thinking, and behavior. The good news? There are certain preventive measures that seniors can take to prevent or delay the development of dementia.
Here are some tips suggested by experts for senior citizens living in Greater Noida so that they can maintain their brain health and stay alert: Worried about losing or losing memory? Take control of your mental health—get a cognitive test done at a hospital in Greater Noida today!
Tumblr media
Dementia is an overall term for a group of brain diseases that harm memory, thinking, and other intellectual abilities. It is a progressive disease, and symptoms will get worse over time. Dementia can have a significant impact on everyday life. There is no cure for dementia, but medications are available to treat symptoms and increase quality of life. Learn the following tips for treating dementia in elderly people:
1. Stay Physically Active
Exercise regularly promotes circulation to the brain and prevents intellectual deterioration. People of advanced age should:
Take daily walks in a park or neighborhood
Practice some yoga or gentle stretching
Join a fitness club geared for seniors
Exercise prevents other illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes, which are also associated with a higher risk of dementia.
Tumblr media
2. Eat a Brain-Healthy Diet
Nutrition for brain functioning. A healthy diet with a rich composition of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein foods, and healthy fats may help keep the brain working. Follow these:
The Mediterranean diet
An omega-3 rich diet (from fish, flaxseeds, walnuts)
Lower consumption of processed sweets and saturated fats
Fresh fruits and vegetables made available by local farmers' markets of Greater Noida simplify healthy eating.
3. Engage the Brain
Just like physical exercise makes the body stronger, mental exercise makes the brain stronger. Do:
Crossword puzzles or Sudoku
Reading books or newspapers
Learning new skills or hobbies
Playing strategy games such as chess or bridge
Community libraries and activity centers in Greater Noida usually provide classes and programs to assist mental stimulation among the elderly.
4. Manage Chronic Health Conditions
Uncontrolled diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol can increase the risk of dementia. Regular checkups at the best hospital in Greater Noida need to be attended to control such conditions and slow down cognitive loss.
Adherence to medications and checking for medical conditions is crucial in protecting brain health in the long term.
5. Stay Socially Active
Loneliness and isolation are key risk factors for dementia. Older citizens need to stay connected through:
Family visits
Community groups or clubs
Religious or spiritual activities
Volunteering
There are several older groups in Greater Noida that organize meetups, walks, and activities to help people socialize.
6. Improve Your Sleep
Sleep disturbance can damage memory and predispose to dementia. Older persons should aim for 7–8 hours of quality sleep nightly. To improve sleep:
Adopt a consistent sleep schedule
Avoid heavy meals or TV/screen time before bedtime
Practice relaxing pre-sleep routines
If these sleep problems continue, then maybe a visit to the best neurologist in Greater Noida is in order for another look.
Tumblr media
7. Stop Smoking and Cut Back on Booze
Smoking and heavy booze consumption are both infamous causes of mental fogginess. Stopping smoking and drinking moderately (or abstaining from booze altogether) can be a huge cognitive and health booster.
8. Get Serious about Your Mental Health
Depression and anxiety worsen memory problems and accelerate mental decline. Seniors must:
Be open about their emotions
Speak with family and friends or licensed therapists
Practice mindfulness, meditation, or slow breathing
If depressive and anxious symptoms are persistent, professional intervention at a Greater Noida hospital can be helpful.
9. Protect Your Head
Head injuries, particularly in older adults, may put dementia at higher risk. Common safety measures include:
Installing handrails and anti-slip mats in the bathroom
Helmets when biking or for some activities
Walking sticks if necessary to avoid falling
10. Obtain Regular Cognitive Screenings
Early diagnosis of cognitive impairment can result in improved management. Memory check-ups or cognitive tests at regular intervals can monitor changes. Hospitals in Greater Noida provide screening that can identify early signs of dementia and prescribe preventive measures.
Small steps make big differences. Begin a brain-healthy lifestyle today and see an expert if you experience early signs of memory lapse.
Conclusion
Even though there is no surefire way to avoid dementia, a good brain lifestyle can go a long way. Greater Noida's elderly citizens can adopt these easy yet powerful steps to preserve their memory, autonomy, and general well-being.
Small daily activities such as remaining active, having a healthy diet, and remaining socially active can make a huge difference in maintaining a clear mind. Memory loss or confusion if an issue must not be neglected. Taking the opinion of a professional from a Greater Noida hospital can result in early intervention and optimal outcomes.

No More ‘Hunger Games’
Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do. Ecclesiastes 9:7 (NIV) [1]
We are a generation of Katniss Everdeen. I remember the first The Hunger Games film released when I was in my senior year of high school. More than a decade after its initial release, the character of Katniss continues to be an inspiration to still hope for the best in a dystopian future. The film perfectly embodies the essence of inequality. We see in our world today how the nation of Panem can be, in some ways, relevant when we look at the situation of our world. Yet, this article isn’t about The Hunger Games but rather tackles one immense challenge that we have—hunger, food insecurity, food systems.
A world with zero hunger is the United Nations’ second sustainable development goal; Inequalities contribute to food insecurity in many parts of the world, but so do wars and the climate crisis; This has been exacerbated further by the COVID-19 pandemic; Chronic hunger is real, and it is happening for 735 million people as of 2022; Lack of nutrition in food is also an issue that SDG2 aims to tackle, and recent data shows that about 148 million children suffer from stunted growth; Escalating food prices even make this immediate challenge more difficult to solve; These are the realities that we all face today, and the UN looks at the agricultural sector as a key catalyst to solve this problem among many others[2]. Yet the agricultural sector is just one of the many actors to defeat hunger. Sustainable food systems require interdependent and interconnected sectors beyond agriculture.
Sustainable food systems (SFS) are critical architectures to achieve zero hunger, yet the UN recognizes that there is also the presence of the triple threat[3]: malnutrition, unsustainable food practices, and overconsumption that needs to be addressed altogether, in varying capacities, in differing degrees. According to a brief published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), there are several options to approach a sustainable food system[4]. One is the traditional production-focused approach which means that to attain food security there must be a continuous increase in the food supply. There is also a newer approach which is the value creation approach that investigates systems thinking to deliver food value not only from a producer standpoint but across the value chain and actors. Lastly is the market system approach which looks at the complexity of market interactions to improve food systems. Each of these systems has its advantages and disadvantages and it is critical to recognize them head-on if we are to shift to a more sustainable food flow and architecture. The FAO paper also shared a Food System Development Paradigm as a framework with different components playing a role in sustainable food systems. More than the pathways and system components, I am drawn to the different loops of the framework because for me these are the true mechanisms and growth engines for the SFS to happen. One is the investment loop which looks at the source of funding and wealth creation. Second is the multiplier loop which emphasizes ways to improve income and decent work. Third is the progress loop where taxation enables funding for social and environmental initiatives. Lastly is the externalities loop which considers economic, social, and environmental factors as dependencies for SFS.
Fortunately, there is a positive headway. Projects, programs, and policies are being created to move towards SFS. For instance, the EU has adopted a Farm to Fork Strategy with one initiative to develop a legal framework for SFS cohesion and acceleration[5]. Moreover, the Food Action Alliance (FAA) has done important work in SFS space: In Southern Africa, the alliance has partnered with some organizations to support the SACAU Poultry Solution, an initiative helping 10 million farmers in the area; The Sustainable Cattle Landscapes, on the other hand, is a program within the Colombian Amazon that worked with the FAA to attain deforestation-free value chains through the enablement of livestock producers; Upskilling farmers also is one initiative of FAA together with Grow Asia in Vietnam through the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture (PSAV)[6]. Lastly is the current developments in regenerative agriculture which is an approach to farming that emphasizes soil health[7]. In my organization, Bayer, there were set visions in regenerative agriculture, helping farmers globally and supporting the goal of food security[8].
Combatting hunger is no way easy yet the solutions that we have right now can advance all of us towards this goal. I think we all agree that a world without “hunger games” is a better world and look into a future where sustainable food systems are the norm.

The month of March is full of milestones and celebrations, from March Madness to St. Patrick’s Day to the Vernal Equinox and more. But for all of us at Down to Earth Markets and other B Corp certified organizations, March also means B Corp Month. B Corp Month is an annual event where we join together with other B Corps to share the positive impacts we’ve made over the past year and to articulate our goals for the coming year and beyond.
In case you aren’t familiar with B Corp certification, it’s a designation signifying that a business demonstrates high social and environmental performance, has made a legal commitment to its social performance obligations by changing its corporate governance structure, and exhibits transparency in its impact measurement and reporting. Certified B Corporations are leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. Down to Earth Markets is not only mission-driven but committed to demonstrating its impact on our area of focus via this rigorous external certification process.
The theme for B Corp Month this year is This Way Forward. At Down to Earth Markets, we consider B Corp certification to be an ongoing journey, not a finite destination, as we continuously strive to move forward by creating the change we’d like to see in the world and using business as a force for good. Here are some ways in which we are doing that: 1) This Way Forward: Economic Opportunity Down to Earth Markets creates economic opportunity for small scale farmers and food makers by connecting them directly to consumers in nine professionally-run, weekly, community farmers markets in New York City and the Westchester suburbs. We see micro- and small-scale businesses as the preservationists of our rich and eclectic foodways, but also essential to the health of our regional economy. As such, we actively seek out early-stage farms and food entrepreneurs to give them a marketplace entry-point to help jumpstart their businesses.
Down to Earth’s markets act as both incubators and steppingstones by providing venues through which farmers and food makers can reach a wider audience with their products. Our portfolio of farmers markets offers diversity in terms of market profile (size, scalability, location, ambience, and shopper demographics) so that producers can grow along with us as their businesses expand and evolve.
At the heart of our markets are our farmers, who often live in rural, upstate communities that are geographically more isolated and economically challenged. Down to Earth Markets provides an opportunity for these underserved populations, while strengthening our regional food system by providing an alternative to industrial food and creating a viable economy for small-scale farms. 2) This Way Forward: Food Insecurity Here in the United States, more than 44 million people are food insecure, with 1 in 5 children experiencing hunger every day. Down to Earth Markets is a partner in the fight against this widespread and growing food insecurity. We believe that everyone should have access to fresh, nutritious, locally grown food so we ensure that anyone who wants to shop at our farmers markets can do so.
We accept a range of programs to make wholesome food more accessible to low-income members of the community: SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) EBT which adds to the grocery budget of low-income households, Fresh Connect coupons and Health Bucks to give SNAP users more buying power at the farmers market, and Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) fresh fruit and vegetable coupons for seniors and low-income families with kids. At our year-round Ossining Farmers Market, Ossining Food Pantry clients can use coupons to purchase fresh food from the farmers market to supplement what they receive from the food pantry. 3) This Way Forward: Environmental Stewardship Caring for the earth is fundamental to Down to Earth Markets’ mission: it’s deeply rooted in who we are, what we do, why we do it and is even reflected in our company’s name. At our core, we believe that seasonal, local, nutrient-dense food is a vital part of our heritage that ensures the health of our communities and the land we rely upon. The environmental impacts of our operations can be found in multiple areas:
The majority of farms that serve our markets use regenerative or low-impact agricultural techniques to promote and protect the health of our ecosystems. These include seasonal production, organic growing, crop rotation, crop diversity, cover crops, water management, reduced tillage, on-site composting and other beneficial land-use and healthy soil practices.
Processed food travels around 1,300 miles before reaching the consumer. By providing communities with locally grown, in-season produce, the products sold at our farmers markets incur fewer food transportation miles and associated carbon emissions than that of industrially produced food.
The meat and poultry our farms produce has been sustainably and humanely raised requiring significantly less land-use change, water waste and energy expenditure than that of industrial factory farms. In addition, our prepared foods are made with ingredients and at a scale that eliminates the toll of factory food production.
The products sold by our farms and vendors have minimal to no packaging which helps reduce the volume of trash entering our waste stream. Plus, Down to Earth Markets encourages shoppers to bring their reusable shopping bags and asks vendors to refrain from providing single-use plastic produce and shopping bags unless necessitated by the type of item.
Down to Earth Markets works with local community organizations to provide Textile and Food Scrap Recycling in many of our locations.
4) This Way Forward: Good Corporate Governance As a Certified B Corp, Down to Earth Markets is required to build a corporate governance structure that is accountable to all stakeholders. We consider the impact on our community, employees, and the environment with every business decision that we make. We embrace certification, local sourcing, and community-scale commerce as the best ways to ensure transparency in business and our food system. In addition to B Corp certification, Down to Earth Markets has achieved New York Benefit Corporation status -- a corporate form designed for for-profit entities that want to consider society and the environment, in addition to profit, in their decision-making process.    In an era of ever-growing climate, political and social uncertainty, Down to Earth Markets believes it is critical to continue supporting and strengthening our regional food system and local economy in close alignment with the values of community and environmental care. This over-arching mission has been reflected in our commitment to maintaining B Corp certification since 2014. We invite you to celebrate with us throughout March as we recognize B Corp Month and what it means to be a business centered on making a positive impact and enacting meaningful change in today’s world.

COVID-19 fuels the threat of global famine
Tumblr media
The pandemic has exacerbated food insecurity around the world. The World Food Program is short of resources to alleviate hunger.
Conflicts, climate change and now COVID-19 are the three C’s driving 270 million people to famine in the most impoverished countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Central and Latin America. Officials at the World Food Program (WFP), the hunger relief arm of the United Nations that feeds about a hundred million people each year in some 88 countries, warned that they are running out of resources to meet the demand for staple foods and thus prevent people dying from starvation.
“We are asking globally $13.5 billion for our budget this year, but we forecast being able to raise only about $7.8 billion,” said Steve Taravella, WFP’s senior spokesperson at a briefing organized by Ethnic Media Services on Feb. 26.
Before the pandemic, there were about 135 million people acutely hungry in the world, but the collateral economic impacts of the virus have doubled that number. WFP estimates that in 2021, about 19,000 officials working in developing countries will have to duplicate efforts to serve at least 120 million people, in hardest-hit places like Yemen, South Sudan, Nigeria and Burkina Faso.
“For some years WFP and others working on global hunger were really effective in bringing hunger down to what we hoped would be the zero hunger goal of the UN by 2030. It’s pretty clear now, that’s not going to happen,” Taravella said. “COVID is making the poorest of the world poorer and the hungriest of the world hungrier.”
WFP won the Nobel Peace Prize last year for its efforts to eradicate hunger in areas where natural disasters and conflict have disrupted normal food distribution channels. Areas where bombed roads prevent trucks carrying flour, rice, lentils, peas, cooking oil and salt from getting through. Areas where airstrikes destroy planes carrying dietary supplies. Areas where incessant fighting prevents hungry people from venturing out for food or aid workers from moving safely to provide it, at a time when crops cannot be harvested.
“There have been terrorist acts against villagers and aid workers by Al-Qaeda Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram and ISIS,” Taravella said. Recently, a WFP staff member was killed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo while accompanying the Italian ambassador on a visit to a school feeding site.
WFP provides school meals in the classrooms, helps pregnant women and new mothers to understand nutrition, and supports small farmers to find markets for their produce.
“We work very closely with governments but we see ourselves there only as a temporary band-aid. Our goal is to help build the country’s capacity to manage the programs,” said Taravella.
Although the WFP does not operate food banks in the United States, immigrants in the country have contributed greatly to alleviating hunger in their homelands after natural disasters such as the typhoon that devastated the Philippines or the hurricanes in Central America. But COVID has also impacted remittances.
Devastating hurricanes
“When COVID hit, we were really hoping that the hurricane season will be a quiet one as we had a few years ago, but that was not the case,” said Elio Rujano, communications officer for the WFP’’s regional bureau for Central America and the Caribbean.
The 2020 season produced 30 named storms, of which 13 became hurricanes, six of them devastating in scope. Eta and Iota ravaged areas in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua while tropical storm Amanda hit El Salvador. Since 2014, these countries have already been experiencing prolonged periods of droughts or excessive rains caused by the El NiĂąo phenomenon, both causing the destruction of crops and the livelihood of farmer families.
“In the past we were only focusing on the dry corridor where rural farmers live, but now, because of the pandemic, hunger has expanded to urban areas,” Rujano said from his Panama City office. “50% of the labor in Latin America and Central America is informal labor. People work on the streets, and since they could no longer go out, they couldn’t meet their basic needs.”
Back in 2018, hunger in the region was affecting 2.2 million people and that number is approaching nearly 8 million in 2021.
Here WFP works to support communities to become more resilient to climate change. They teach them to replace the plantation of fragile products such as beans and maize with beekeeping, since honey can be stored for longer periods. They also provide people with cash transfers to buy food at local shops and teach them about nutrition.
Rujano estimates that they could serve up to 2.6 million people this year if they reach $47 millions in donations to reach that population.
Malnourished children in Yemen
Although the situation in Central America is worrying, in places like Yemen where conflict is the main driver of the hunger crisis, the figures are even more chilling. Since the end of 2018, this country has been described as the home of the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Six years of war between the Houthi rebels who control the north of the country and the nationally recognized government dominating the south, have devastated infrastructure, destroyed agricultural land, eroded government services and left the healthcare system on its knees.
About 4 million people out of a population of 30 have become internal refugees while food prices are on average 140 times higher than before the war.
“The hunger situation right now in Yemen has hit a new peak,” said Annabel Symington, head of communications for the WFP in Yemen. “The forecast for 2021 is that 50,000 people are already living in famine like conditions, another 5 million are at severe risk of falling into famine and about 11 million people are facing crisis levels of food insecurity,” she added.
Famine occurs when malnutrition is so widespread that people are literally starving from lack of access to nutritious regular food.
WFP assists more than 12 million people in Yemen – its world’s largest operation – delivering flour, pulses, oil, sugar and salt, as well as canned goods for those who do not have immediate access to kitchen equipment such as the case of the internal displaced people.
The conflict has contributed to nearly half of all children under the age of 5 in Yemen facing acute malnutrition, which not only affects their physical and cognitive development, but puts them at risk of death. 11.2 million pregnant or breastfeeding mothers are also malnourished and according to Symington these numbers can be an underestimate.
Mothers are resorting to desperate measures to survive: either they eat less to feed their children or they must choose which of their kids eat.
After COVID, death rates skyrocketed, but as the testing capacity is limited, it is unknown for sure how many people contracted the virus. “The lockdown was lifted quite early because people will starve if they stay at home,” Symington said.
“It is clear that peace is what Yemen needs so we can address the food crisis,” she added.
Migrants in India
In India, the country with the highest number of food insecure people due to its large population (1.3 billion inhabitants), the pandemic worsened the living conditions for domestic migrants.
Almost 139 million people move from rural areas to large cities to work in informal jobs in factories or as street vendors. The coronavirus forced them to go back to their villages, and since transportation was not working, they had to move by foot, facing not only long hours of walking but hunger. The pandemic also disrupted the harvesting season in March and April affecting food supply chains.
“Although the restrictions (due to the pandemic) have been eased out and these people came back to the cities, there are very few jobs due to the economic slowdown,” said from New Delhi Parul Sachdeva, country advisor in India for Give2Asia, an NGO that supports grassroots organizations in 23 countries in Asia Pacific.
“Today 8 in 10 people are eating less food than before the pandemic and nearly 1 in 3 people face moderate or severe food insecurity.”
The government approved a package of US $22.6 billion for the distribution of staple foods during four months and cash transfers of $ 500 rupees (US $ 7) for up to three months. But informal workers were left out of the package, forcing civil society organizations to support those returning to their villages with meals, health supplies and shelter.
Organizations like Akshaya Patra distributed 1.8 million meals a day to children across India. GIve2Asia is now working on economic rehabilitation through training and input costs for agriculture.
“These are the kind of activities we wish to promote,” Sachdeva added. “I think they provide some kind of solution for livelihood regeneration in a country like ours,” she concluded.

Millions of hungry Americans turn to food banks for 1st time (AP) Hunger is a harsh reality in the richest country in the world. Even during times of prosperity, schools hand out millions of hot meals a day to children, and desperate elderly Americans are sometimes forced to choose between medicine and food. Now, in the pandemic of 2020, with illness, job loss and business closures, millions more Americans are worried about empty refrigerators and barren cupboards. Food banks are doling out meals at a rapid pace and an Associated Press data analysis found a sharp rise in the amount of food distributed compared with last year. Meanwhile, some folks are skipping meals so their children can eat and others are depending on cheap food that lacks nutrition. Those fighting hunger say they’ve never seen anything like this in America, even during the Great Recession of 2007-2009. The first place many Americans are finding relief is a neighborhood food pantry, most connected to vast networks of nonprofits. Tons of food move each day from grocery store discards and government handouts to warehouse distribution centers, and then to the neighborhood charity. An AP analysis of Feeding America data from 181 food banks in its network found the organization has distributed nearly 57 percent more food in the third quarter of the year, compared with the same period in 2019.
Covid Nomads (WSJ) Alan Frei lives the life of a backpacker. That is, all 62 of his belongings fit into a single backpack, which he carries with him as he travels and lives in different cities around the world—a total of 53 countries over the past three years. The 38-year-old Swiss entrepreneur in October got rid of his apartment near Zurich and all his furniture. Items he kept include his watch, a toothbrush, seven pairs of underwear, and sunglasses. Mr. Frei is an extreme version of a digital nomad, a person with no fixed address, who lives and works while traveling the globe. Today, their ranks are small, but they could become more common in the years ahead. “There will definitely be more digital nomads,” says Nicholas Bloom, professor of economics at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Before the pandemic, only about 2% of Americans worked from home full-time, Mr. Bloom says, but he expects that will rise to about 8% to 10% of workers. If just 10% of them travel and work remotely, that will still be enormous, he says. Scott Cohen, a professor at the University of Surrey’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, expects more countries will cater visa and tourism programs to digital nomads, as they seek an alternative to the standard business travel market. Chekitan S. Dev, a professor at Cornell University’s SC Johnson College of Business, School of Hotel Administration, says the trend was first driven by millennials; now older millennials are taking their families with them when they move around. By normalizing remote work and school, the pandemic has supercharged a trend. In the future, digital nomads may be middle-aged, rent or own homes for less time, want to go to more exotic destinations and move more quickly between destinations.
California Water Futures Begin Trading Amid Fear of Scarcity (Bloomberg) Water joined gold, oil and other commodities traded on Wall Street, highlighting worries that the life-sustaining natural resource may become scarce across more of the world. Farmers, hedge funds and municipalities alike are now able to hedge against—or bet on—future water availability in California, the biggest U.S. agriculture market and world’s fifth-largest economy. The contracts, a first of their kind in the U.S., were announced in September as heat and wildfires ravaged the U.S. West Coast and as California was emerging from an eight-year drought. They are meant to serve both as a hedge for big water consumers, such as almond farmers and electric utilities, against water prices fluctuations as well a scarcity gauge for investors worldwide. “Climate change, droughts, population growth, and pollution are likely to make water scarcity issues and pricing a hot topic for years to come,” said RBC Capital Markets managing director and analyst Deane Dray.
‘It’s a free-for-all’: how hi-tech spyware ends up in the hands of Mexico’s cartels (The Guardian) Corrupt Mexican officials have helped drug cartels in the country obtain state-of-the-art spyware which can be used to hack mobile phones, according to a senior DEA official. As many as 25 private companies—including the Israeli company NSO Group and the Italian firm Hacking Team—have sold surveillance software to Mexican federal and state police forces, but there is little or no regulation of the sector—and no way to control where the spyware ends up, said the officials. “It’s a free-for-all,” the official told the Cartel Project, an initiative coordinated by Forbidden Stories, a global network of investigative journalists whose mission is to continue the work of reporters who are threatened, censored or killed. “The police who have the technology would just sell it to the cartels.” [And then the cartels would use it against their enemies or those investigating them.] The nexus between state and criminal forces has fuelled a wave of targeted violence which have made Mexico the most dangerous country for journalists in the world, outside a war zone. At least 119 media workers have been killed in Mexico since 2000, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, and the inevitable fear for reporters is that surveillance could lead to more tangible dangers.
Pope makes surprise early morning prayer visit in rainy Rome (AP) Pope Francis on Tuesday made a surprise early morning visit to the Spanish Steps in Rome to pray for people worldwide struggling in the pandemic. With rain falling and dawn breaking, Francis popped up in the square at the foot of the Spanish Steps at 7 a.m. (0600 GMT), two hours after the end of Italy’s overnight curfew. Before heading back to Vatican City, where he resides in a hotel, Francis stopped to pray some more and celebrate Mass in St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome. Early in the pandemic, Francis made a similar pop-up visit to a little-frequented church in the heart of downtown Rome to pray, startling the few Romans who were in the area during exceptionally tight lockdown measures. In separate, written comments, Francis stressed the need for all to have employment when the world emerges from the pandemic. “How can we speak of human dignity without working to ensure that everyone is able to earn a decent living? the pope wrote. He urged people to “find ways to express our firm conviction that no person, no person at all, no family should be without work.” As he has previously during the pandemic, the pope praised what he called the “ordinary people” who have kept the world functioning as it reels under the strain of the global pandemic. He cited those providing essential services—health care workers and shopkeepers, cleaners and caregivers and “so very many others.”
The Kremlin Is Offering Russians Free Vaccines, but Will They Take Them? (NYT) Aleksei Zakharov, a Moscow economics professor, got the Russian coronavirus vaccine injected into his upper arm over the weekend. Getting the shot was an easy decision, he said—not because the Russian government said it was safe, but because scores of Russians have shared their experience with it on social media. “I trust the grass roots collection of information far more, of course, than what the state says, at least before the testing results are available and published in a medical journal,” Mr. Zakharov, 44, said in a telephone interview Monday, already clear of a mild fever—a side-effect of the vaccine. Russia made its coronavirus vaccine available for free in recent days to teachers, medical workers and social-service employees younger than 61 in Moscow. But even more than in the West, a lack of trust is hobbling Russia’s rollout of a vaccine: the country’s scientists may well have made great strides in battling the pandemic, but many Russians are not ready to believe it. That distrust looms large as Russia races to roll out the vaccine while facing the fiercest onslaught of the pandemic yet, with some 500 deaths per day.
Mt Everest grows by nearly a metre to new height (BBC) The world’s highest mountain Mount Everest is 0.86m higher than had been previously officially calculated, Nepal and China have jointly announced. Until now the countries differed over whether to add the snow cap on top. The new height is 8,848.86m (29,032 ft). Everest stands on the border between China and Nepal and mountaineers climb it from both sides. Officials at Nepal’s foreign ministry and department of survey said surveyors from both countries had co-ordinated to agree on the new height.
China condemns new US Hong Kong sanctions, Taiwan arms sale (AP) China on Tuesday lashed out at the U.S. over new sanctions against Chinese officials and the sale of more military equipment to Taiwan. The U.S. actions are part of what critics see as an effort by the Trump administration to put in place high-pressure tactics toward Beijing that could make it more difficult for President-elect Joe Biden to steady relations. The Cabinet’s office for Hong Kong affairs expressed “strong outrage and condemnation” over the sanctions leveled against 14 members of the standing committee of China’s legislature, which passed a sweeping Hong Kong National Security Law earlier this year. Foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying, meanwhile, demanded the U.S. cancel its latest arms sale to Taiwan and said China would make a “proper and necessary response.” President Donald Trump’s administration has incensed Beijing with 11 separate arms sales and closer military and political ties with the self-governing island democracy that Beijing claims as its own territory, to be annexed by force if necessary. China has stepped up military flights near the island and pledged to punish U.S. companies involved in the arms deals in response.
Libya’s east-based forces seize Turkish-owned vessel (AP) Forces of a Libyan commander who rules the eastern half of the country and who was behind a year-long military attempt to capture the capital, Tripoli, have seized a Turkish vessel heading to the western town of Misrata. The development by Khalifa Hifter’s forces could escalate tensions in the conflict-stricken Libya, since Turkey is the main foreign backer of Hifter’s rivals, the U.N.-backed administration in Tripoli, in western Libya. Hifter’s forces stopped the Jamaica-flagged cargo vessel, Mabrouka, on Monday off the eastern port town of Derna, said Ahmed al-Mosmari, the spokesman for Hifter’s forces. Al-Mosmari said the vessel entered a “no sail” zone and did not respond to calls from the naval forces. It’s the second Turkish-owned vessel seized by Hifter’s forces this year, according to Ambrey Intelligence, a British private maritime intelligence firm. In 2020, Hifter’s forces have seized at least six ships.

A British Columbia Farmers' Market nutrition coupon program is growing both financially and with participants.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says those eligible to take part will get more money to spend at farmers' markets around the province and another 700 individuals will be brought into program.
The province is investing almost $1.6 million this year for the program that will supply weekly coupons valued at $21 for the purchase of locally grown food at farmers' markets around the province.
Dix told a crowd at a farmers' market in his own Vancouver riding on Saturday that they had a waiting list last year, which is one of the reasons they expanded the programs, especially to ensure pregnant women were included.
Vickey Brown, president of the BC Association of Farmers' Markets, says the initiative works on many levels, supporting families, seniors and expectant mothers, while at the same time helping local farmers across the province.

QRydeNation’s Commitment to Providing Quality Groceries for Seniors
Tumblr media
As the world becomes more attuned to the specific needs of aging populations, services dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens are more important than ever. QRydeNation is at the forefront of these developments, offering a range of solutions, including grocery delivery services, rides for seniors, and meals for senior citizens. Through a combination of innovation, technology, and compassion, QRydeNation has built a system that provides healthy meal delivery, senior rides, and ensures easy access to groceries for seniors.
Evolving Needs of Senior Citizens in the Modern Age
As people age, their needs change—particularly when it comes to mobility, diet, and health. Many senior citizens live alone or with minimal assistance and find it challenging to maintain their independence due to physical or cognitive limitations. The task of visiting a grocery store or making trips to other essential locations can become daunting. Similarly, accessing meals for senior citizens and other necessary services becomes increasingly difficult.
QRydeNation recognizes this challenge and addresses it through a well-rounded suite of services, including rides for senior citizens, meals delivery services for seniors, and, most importantly, grocery delivery services. These services are crucial for maintaining the independence and dignity of seniors while also ensuring their health and well-being.
Grocery Delivery Services: A Lifeline for Senior Citizens
One of the most essential services QRydeNation offers is grocery delivery for seniors. As mobility decreases, frequent trips to the grocery store become more difficult. Even seniors who still drive or use public transportation often find it challenging to carry heavy bags or navigate the store aisles. QRydeNation’s grocery delivery services eliminate these challenges by bringing fresh, healthy food directly to seniors' doors.
By partnering with local grocery stores and national chains, QRydeNation ensures that seniors have access to a wide range of products. From fresh produce to pantry staples, seniors can order their groceries with ease through QRydeNation’s simple and intuitive platform. Whether it’s placing an order over the phone, via an app, or through a centralized dashboard, seniors can choose the method that best suits their comfort level.
Ensuring Healthy Meal Options for Seniors
Alongside grocery delivery services, QRydeNation also provides healthy meal delivery options. Nutrition is a key component of maintaining health and longevity for seniors. However, preparing balanced meals at home can be time-consuming and physically demanding. QRydeNation works with local providers to deliver nutritious, ready-to-eat meals directly to seniors' homes.
These meals for seniors are tailored to meet dietary requirements such as low-sodium, low-sugar, or gluten-free, ensuring that seniors maintain a balanced diet. QRydeNation’s meals delivery services for seniors are designed to reduce the risk of malnutrition, which is a growing concern in aging populations.
How QRydeNation Combines Rides and Groceries for Seniors
The unique aspect of QRydeNation’s services is that they extend beyond just grocery or meal deliveries. QRydeNation also offers rides for seniors, providing a complete ecosystem of support. For seniors who still prefer to visit grocery stores or farmers' markets in person, QRydeNation’s senior rides program offers safe, reliable transportation. Seniors can schedule a ride easily through the QRydeNation platform, ensuring that they never miss an appointment or a trip to the grocery store.
Rides for senior citizens are not just limited to grocery shopping; QRydeNation also provides transportation to medical appointments, social gatherings, and other errands. These rides for seniors ensure that older adults maintain their independence and stay connected to their communities.
QRydeNation’s ride services are designed to be convenient and flexible. Whether a senior needs transportation at the last minute or prefers to schedule their ride well in advance, QRydeNation’s drivers are always available. The platform also offers specialized vehicles for seniors with mobility aids such as wheelchairs or walkers, ensuring that all clients have a comfortable, safe journey.
The QRydeNation Experience: Prioritizing Comfort, Safety, and Independence
At the core of QRydeNation’s philosophy is the belief that seniors should never have to compromise on their independence. Whether it’s through grocery delivery services or rides for seniors, QRydeNation strives to offer solutions that enhance seniors' ability to live life on their own terms. This commitment is reflected in every aspect of the service.
A User-Friendly System
QRydeNation’s platform is designed with seniors in mind, offering multiple ways to access services. Seniors can place orders or request rides using their preferred method, whether it’s by phone, through an app, or via a simple web portal. The interface is user-friendly, requiring minimal technical expertise. For those who are less familiar with smartphones or computers, QRydeNation’s dedicated support team is available to assist with any queries or issues.
Safety First Approach
For many seniors, safety is a primary concern when using transportation services. QRydeNation takes this seriously, ensuring that all drivers undergo thorough background checks and training before joining the team. In addition, the company monitors rides in real-time, providing an extra layer of security. Families can also track their loved ones' trips, giving them peace of mind knowing that seniors are in safe hands.
The same level of care extends to QRydeNation’s grocery delivery services and meals delivery services for seniors. All delivery personnel are vetted, and QRydeNation’s system ensures that groceries and meals are delivered on time, every time.
Customized Services for Every Need
QRydeNation understands that no two seniors have the same needs. Some may require healthy meal delivery, while others may need regular rides for seniors to medical appointments or grocery stores. QRydeNation offers customizable service plans, allowing seniors to choose exactly what they need without paying for services they won’t use.
This flexibility also extends to dietary preferences. QRydeNation’s grocery delivery services enable seniors to order specific products tailored to their dietary restrictions. Whether a senior needs gluten-free bread, lactose-free milk, or organic vegetables, QRydeNation ensures these items are available.
Community and Connection: QRydeNation’s Broader Impact
Beyond providing essential services like rides for seniors and grocery delivery services, QRydeNation plays an important role in fostering community and connection. Many seniors face loneliness and isolation, especially if they are unable to leave their homes regularly. QRydeNation’s drivers and delivery personnel often provide more than just a service; they offer a friendly face and a moment of conversation, helping seniors feel more connected to the outside world.
In addition, by enabling seniors to remain independent longer, QRydeNation allows them to participate in social activities, visit friends and family, and engage with their communities. This not only enhances their mental health and well-being but also contributes to a stronger, more connected society.
Future Innovations at QRydeNation
Looking ahead, QRydeNation is continually exploring new ways to improve and expand its services. The company plans to enhance its healthy meal delivery options by partnering with local farms and sustainable food providers. This will allow seniors to enjoy even fresher, more nutritious meals while supporting local agriculture.
Additionally, QRydeNation is exploring ways to integrate smart technology into its services, such as voice-activated ordering for groceries and rides. This will make the process even easier for seniors who may have limited mobility or vision impairments.
Conclusion
In a world where convenience is key, QRydeNation is setting a new standard for senior care. Through its comprehensive suite of services—including grocery delivery, rides for seniors, and healthy meal delivery—QRydeNation is helping seniors maintain their independence, health, and well-being. By focusing on safety, flexibility, and customer satisfaction, QRydeNation is truly committed to enhancing the lives of seniors across the country.
With QRydeNation, seniors no longer need to worry about the challenges of grocery shopping, meal preparation, or transportation. Instead, they can focus on what truly matters: enjoying life to the fullest.
