(Character headcanons)

1. Mae’s laugh is typically reserved; she’s quiet and just chuckles lightly most times, a small laugh with only her top teeth visible in a smile. When you can actually crack her tough exterior, she has a hearty and warm open-mouthed laugh.

2. Rest?? What’s that? Everyone needs something from her always, and she can’t bear the thought of denying someone help. Mae’s been operating in a state of what normal people would call burnout for the last few years (and denying it heavily). I’m pretty sure that girl gets swarmed by poukas every time she’s at the pouka pond. She doesn’t need a therapy pouka - she needs a whole gaggle of them.

3. OUGH. Generally, not well. When it comes to emotional support and confiding in others, she’s opened up to few people over the years—her mentor and friend Phaeston, Cayde to a certain extent, and little Lyra of course. However, after Phaeston and Cayde’s deaths, Mae walls herself off, even to Lyra for the most part. She leans into the Lone Wolf stereotype that Hunters get saddled with and insists that she doesn’t need help. In addition to emotional support, this also extends to building fireteams with other guardians. She’s got a trio of guardians that she can call on for help when she needs it, but she refuses. She can handle it on her own (lying). When she does manage to open up in little ways, she really only confides in Lyra and no one else. As Mae and Crow get closer, he tries to return the kindness she shows him, and she rebuffs it pretty quickly. It isn’t until she breaks down on the Leviathan, haunted by nightmares of Phaeston and Cayde (in addition to being poked at by Uldren), that she finally opens up and able to accept help again. But only from certain trusted confidants.

4. Lia - Oh man. I don’t know if this can be factored into aphantasia or not, but I have a really hard time imagining some of my OCs with voices that differ from the game’s VA. So in Lia’s case, my totally cop out answer is that it sounds like Jennifer Hale’s laugh in the game.
