Demographics

South Asians form the largest ethnic group in the country, representing about two-fifths of the population. They are mainstay of plantation agriculture, and many are independent farmers and landowners; they also have done well in trade

Guyanese of African descent make up about three-tenths of the population. They are independent peasantry or town dweller

People of mixed ancestry constitute about one-fifth of the population. Every possible ethnic mixture can be found in Guyana, mulattoes are the most common one.

The indigenous peoples of Guyana constitute about one-tenth of the population. They are grouped into coastal and interior groups.

 coastal include Warao, Arawak, Carib; Interior include Wapisiana, Arekuna, Macusi

Chinese and Portuguese people also entered Guyana originally as agricultural labour. They are active in business and the professions.

Just Pinned to Guyana, The Love of my Life: Back in 1968, the Lethem Hotel was the at the heart of Guyana's 'Rupununi Revolt'. In its day, it had been the region's first work of concrete and its first hotel. Back then, the hotel used to show movies here every Saturday night, mostly cowboy films which the Wapisianas loved.
