So I’m usually a big defender of Pocket Camp, but I have to agree with basically everyone else here, the new Gulliver update is absolutely abysmal.
The terrible changes made to change Gulliver from something enjoyable enough to just flat-out infuriating:
- You have to craft everything now. Gone are the days where you can unload your extra items, you now have to spend leaf tickets bells to send him off. And of course everything takes 30 min-1 hour to craft, so you either have to play constantly or speed it up using leaf tickets. (Seriously, I spent nearly 30 leaf tickets just to craft things in a reasonable time frame and I doubt it was worth it.)
- You have to have a certain amount of “points” to send off the boats; Only certain items can be loaded onto certain ships, and you can't even put all of the ones you craft on there. I crafted two red crates (that are worth like 20 points each I think) for the animal map boat for example, but I was only allowed to load one of them. I guess it’s so you have to spend leaf tickets bells to craft all of the smaller, less point-giving items instead of just splurging on the big ones.
- It takes 18 hours for Gulliver to return. You remember when Gulliver would return in 6 hours, or two game cycles? Well now it takes 6 game cycles, or most of the day! But don’t worry - 36 leaf tickets and he’ll be back immediately.
And of course, the worst part:
- You get one item per trip, and you can’t even pick it yourself. Yes, the “souvenir” you get from Gulliver you get is basically a blind grab bag. (If you spend leaf tickets you can get multiple items, but it’s still random.) You want a certain villager from the animal map island for example? Pray that the RNG gods will have mercy on you.
In case you’re keeping track at home, literally everything about Gulliver’s mini game got worse. You can’t even say the Isabelle goals for doing it make it worth it, because you get one (1) measly leaf ticket each time you complete a goal.
The only reason I’m even bothering with this train wreck is because I really really want Rocket because she’s in my ACNL town, but once I get her I’m done with this, and frankly if you don’t care about any of the villagers I wouldn’t bother with it at all.

I reeeeally want to start another island. I still have my first island from 2020, but I haven't played that one much since the 2.0 update came out. I have my second island that I started in September, and I'm still working on that and love everything about it.
I miss being able to have multiple towns on one console. I tend to go in cycles between my towns. With acnl I had a ton of towns. I had physical and digital copies of the game. I had fun and could cycle through whenever I had an idea that would fit a certain town best. Now I'm limited to 2 (I have 2 switches). It's killing me because I have an idea for a new island and I don't want to have to flatten or reset either of my islands. The worst part about acnh is not being able to have multiple copies of the game for one switch.

henlo do you have any tips for acnl players moving to acpg? i’ve never played the older ac games ;-;
AAAAHHH WOW IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU ok first of all congrats im so excited for you to experience this game!! its my absolute favorite and it means a lot to me c:
oof where to begin?
first of all, expect a large difference between the two games. at first they may not even feel like part of the same franchise to you! it’s important to remember just how old population growing is; you may feel underwhelmed at first especially after coming from new leaf. There are a lot of antiquated mechanics and stuff that just isn’t in the newer games like hybrid flowers, travel to the island, town customization, and plot resetting. there are lots of animals exclusive to population growing that you’ve probably never seen before, and the moving cycle is a lot more frequent and random. basically once you get 15 villagers the last villager to arrive will continue to cycle through a new villager every few weeks unless you travel to another town. NOTE whenever you travel to another town, one of your villagers will move away. from what I understand it’s totally random?? anyways yeah it’s not as steady of an environment as acnl and your villagers will change fairly often!
house customization is somewhat limited, as a lot of furniture pieces central to new leaf aren’t even in population growing; but as a trade-off lots of new furniture you’ve never seen is in population growing and you can’t find it in new leaf! your house can't expand as much and its a lot harder to obtain rare furniture and floors/carpets (unless you use nook’s secret codes, which are a really exciting part of population growing!!)
other than that, i’m hesitant to give too much away!! so much of what makes this game magical is about exploration and self-discovery. talk to your villagers as much as possible! go to the train station every saturday night (trust me), walk around your town after midnight and see if you run into anybody special, check the bulletin board to get updates on upcoming special events, dig up that glowing spot in the ground (and bury a shovel in it!), pay off your loan to the fullest extent and then check the area in front of the train station, send your villagers mail all the time, ride the train so that you can meet the mysterious white cat, run errands for your neighbors, check the town dump every day, and just have so much fun!!
let me know how you find the game anon c:

3. Mayor Name(s): Rachael and Rae
4. Town name(s): Lavender and Honey 🍯
5. Dream Address(es): Lavender: 5F00-003E-A5C0 (Honey is a wip)
6. Favourite villager: I love all my villagers, but Mitzi has been my favorite since the Game Cube version. Her, Lolly and Rosie are faves ^.^
7. Favourite non-villager character: Sable and Celeste foreverrrrr
8. Favourite flowers: I love the combination of white carnations and purple roses. I love all purple hybrid and Jacob’s ladders too :)
9. Favourite time of day: I love mid-morning. I love the music and how everyone is just starting their days and how the shops are just opening.
10. Native fruit: cherries in both Lavender and Honey!
11. How would you describe your mayor’s style? Mayor Rachael is very cutesy. She loves to have her hair up in a bow and wear her ballet slippers with all of her cute clothes. Mayor Rae is very feminine and professional
12. How would you describe your home style? Mayor Rachael has a bakery and a café in her home, so it's very clean! (Except the back room!!) Mayor Rae has a similar style to how I'd want to have my own rooms in my house (the ice cream parlor not included), she has rooms for every part of her life she has passions in. Her craft room, her big kitchen, her observatory upstairs.
13. How would you describe your town style? Lavender is a very flower abundant town. It's natural and zen-like. I just updated the dream address with the cherry blossoms!
14. Are there any items you are currently looking for? Um, maybe just a few of RV items. I am looking for space pants for my observatory, though ^.^
I tag @saucyjr, @lazybeau, @lalyst and @a-galaxy-inside! (if you’ve already been tagged, don’t worry :3)
