tagged by @herbaklava @timrothencrantz and @wutheringdyke to post my top nine new-to-me watches of the year—thank you all! in no particular order (l-r, top row to bottom row):
skinamarink (kyle edward ball, 2023) great freedom (sebastian meise, 2021) earth mama (savanah leaf, 2023) nineteen eighty-four (michael radford, 1984) enys men (mark jenkin, 2022) marina abramović & ulay: no predicted end (kasper bech dyg, 2022) paris 5:59: théo & hugo (olivier ducastel and jacques martineau, 2016) nationtime (william greaves, 1972) giants and toys (yasuzo masumura, 1958)
while i hit my continual goal of half of the films by women and nonbinary filmmakers, i still definitely need to keep up with deliberately seeking out films by directors of color! tell me your faves if you’ve seen any of these; do we think i can hit 150 titles in 2024? 👀🎬🍿🎥
i'll tag @sightofsea / @lesbiancolumbo / @nelson-riddle-me-this / @draftdodgerag / @edwardalbee / @majorbaby / @radioprune / @glennmillerorchestra / @deadpanwalking and anyone else who'd like to do this!

2023 Chequamegon MTB Festival Recap
One of the most popular mountain bike events in the country, the Chequamegon 40 MTB race, celebrated its 40th anniversary last weekend in Wisconsin. Bikeflights’ own Michael Potter and Kerry Werner were there to work the expo, race their bikes and experience just why so many folks come back to participate year after year.
Tumblr media
The Chequamegon 40 features the beloved and picturesque American Birkebeiner Ski Trail. It travels over a 40-mile point-to-point course, starting in Hayward, Wisconsin and finishing at the Great Hall in the town of Cable. Originally conceived in 1983, the event has grown into one of the premier mountain biking races in the Midwest and attracts top pro and amateur riders from all over the US.
The race challenges riders with a mix of singletrack, grassy doubletrack and gravel roads in the north woods of the Chequamegon National Forest. It happens each year just as the leaves are starting to change into their autumn colors.
Upon arrival, Michael and Kerry’s first stop was Riverbrook Bike & Ski to pick up Kerry’s bike, which he had shipped – using Bikeflights, of course! – from Virginia. The shop had kindly received and held his bike shipment until Kerry could come pick it up and put it together. Then it was time for a pre-ride of some of the early miles of the course.
Tumblr media
At expo and packet pickup the next day Michael and Kerry welcomed riders, a majority of whom had attended many times before and others who were riding it for the first time. They connected with riders who have already enjoyed using Bikeflights bike shipping service as well as those who were interested in trying it for the first time.
After a full day of work, it was time to prepare for their races, including fueling themselves with pizza at the nearby Rivers Eatery.
Tumblr media
On race day, everyone enjoyed perfect weather and great course conditions. Amateurs started on courses of various lengths throughout the morning while the pros got underway at noon. This schedule allows many amateurs to finish up in time to be able to also cheer on the pros.
Tumblr media
In the elite men’s race, Bikeflights Ambassador Alexey Vermeulen from Boulder, Colorado earned the victory in a massive 14-rider sprint finish, something that rarely happens in a mountain bike race. He crossed the line with a time of 2:03.43 and was immediately followed by Keegan Swenson, Cole Paton, Payson McElveen and Logan Owen. Kerry would roll into the finish line just a few minutes later with a time of 2:08:47.
"I had a goal at the beginning of the year to win a Life Time Grand Prix race,” said Alexey. “I wanted, like everyone, to win Unbound or Leadville, but Chequamegon feels fitting. It feels like home."
Tumblr media

In the elite women's race, Ruth Edwards of Nederland, Colorado took the top spot in a two-up sprint against Alexis Skarda of Grand Junction, Colorado. They finished in 2:24:34, ahead of Sofia Gomez Villafane, Gabriella Guerra and Bikeflights Ambassador Haley Smith.

Michael rode in the amateur single-speed race and finished strong with an impressive time of just over three hours.
What Michael and Kerry enjoyed most about the event was all the support it received from the local community. The volunteers were incredible – helping riders fuel at the aid stations that were frequently located every few miles. The well-marked course was easy to follow, but not too easy to ride. Several challenging climbs and fast and fun descents made it super fun to race.

After experiencing the Chequamegon 40 firsthand, both Michael and Kerry are already looking forward to future editions.
Nice work, Wisconsin. We’ll be back!

Transfer curse: Why Man City walking away from the Declan Rice transfer is bad news for Arsenal
Tumblr media
Transfer curse: Why Man City walking away from the Declan Rice transfer is bad news for Arsenal Manchester City has decided to withdraw from the competition to sign Declan Rice, suggesting that the West Ham captain is likely to join Arsenal during the summer transfer window.  Arsenal has openly expressed their strong interest in the player, and their third bid, reportedly valued at a record-breaking £100 million with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons, seems to have been successful. Although West Ham is content with the amount offered, they still have some reservations regarding the structure of the bid. Manchester City's significant financial resources are well-known, but it is now evident that they were not willing to meet the £100 million valuation for Rice. This is not the first instance where Pep Guardiola's team has abandoned a deal once they believe their own assessment of the player's value has been exceeded. Considering this, Soccer Daily has examined eight other players who came close to joining Manchester City but ultimately fell short, signing for other clubs instead. 1. Cristiano Ronaldo Ronaldo's emotional return to Manchester United was a major talking point, but few remember how close he came to joining Manchester City instead. Ultimately, Ronaldo's second spell at United overshadowed the near-miss with City. He is now leading the line for Saudi Arabian outfit Al Nassr, leaving City to wonder what might have been. 2. Marc Cucurella The Spanish left-back was highly sought after, with both Manchester City and Chelsea vying for his services. In the end, Chelsea won the race with a hefty £56 million offer, including add-ons. However, Cucurella's time at Stamford Bridge has been less than impressive, leaving Chelsea to question whether they made the right decision. 3. Harry Maguire Maguire's move to Manchester United has been marred by mistakes and criticism, but City had previously expressed interest in the defender. Guardiola admitted they were priced out of a move for Maguire, and he ended up at United, where he now serves as the club captain. 4. Paul Pogba The talented but polarizing Pogba was on City's radar before he returned to Manchester United in 2016. City's interest persisted even during his second spell at Old Trafford. While Pogba struggled with injuries and inconsistency, City's failure to secure his signature did not prevent him from returning to Juventus. 5. Romelu Lukaku Though not as well-documented, Lukaku revealed that he rejected a higher offer from Manchester City in favor of joining Chelsea. He later returned to Stamford Bridge and then faced mixed fortunes at the club. Ultimately, he found success with Inter Milan after a loan spell. 6. Timo Werner Guardiola himself attempted to persuade Werner to join City, but the German forward chose Chelsea instead. However, Werner's time at Chelsea was fraught with criticism for his profligate finishing, and he eventually returned to his previous club, RB Leipzig. 7. Kalidou Koulibaly City was keen on acquiring Koulibaly, but Napoli's asking price of £72 million deterred them. The Senegalese defender eventually joined Chelsea before moving to Saudi club Al Hilal after just one season. 8. Alexis Sanchez In 2017, Manchester City expressed strong interest in signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, but the deal fell through, and he ended up at Manchester United. Sanchez's time at United was underwhelming, and he eventually found his way to Inter Milan. The transfer market is a complex and unpredictable landscape, with clubs vying for the best players and negotiating deals under various constraints. Manchester City's near-misses serve as a reminder that even the richest clubs can fail to secure their desired targets. As the summer transfer window continues, fans will eagerly watch to see which other surprising twists and turns unfold in the world of football. Celebrity Wedding Dresses for Winter Nuptials
All the magical rom-com movies of finding love during the holidays make a winter wedding in a celebrity inspired wedding dress, the perfect festive tale. Read on to see our top picks of celebrity wedding dresses and what brides-to-be can borrow from them. Who's to say this can't serve as your something borrowed?
Celebrity Cape-Calls
From being used by actors to disappear on stage to being used by military officials and royals, capes have an intriguing history. They are the perfect way to make an entrance: sweeping, show-stopping and sophisticated.  Fashion designers over the centuries have reinvented capes for formal occasions, especially balls and weddings because of its functionality and flourish.
Solange Knowles
Solange Knowles shows us how to be a super bride in her wedding dress designed by Stephane Rolland for her marriage to Alan Ferguson in 2014. From the full-on cape gown to a jumpsuit with cape, Solange‘s dress is iconic and perfect for saying  “I do" in winter.
Tumblr media
Serena Williams
World famous tennis player Serena Williams married husband Alexis Ohanian in a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen princess gown and cape. The cape transforms the ball gown giving it a regal effect perfect for the couples Disney Princess theme.
Tumblr media
Unveiling the Wedding Dress
Wedding veils have come a long way from its origins in Rome, when brides wore a veil over their face as a disguise from evil spirits who wanted to stand in the way of their happiness. It moved on to serve as a symbol of reverence, humility, and purity. Today, veils are worn not just for religious or cultural reasons, but to reflect the bride’s personal style. The veil is one accessory that brides love to play with because it offers many opportunities to create show stopping moments as seen in Priyanka Chopra and Victoria Swarovski’s wedding dresses.
Priyanka Chopra
Former Miss World and Indian actress, Priyanka Chopra made an unforgettable entrance in a 75-foot-long veil as she wed Nick Jonas. Her hand beaded and hand embroidered dress designed by Ralph Lauren took a total of 1,826 hours to complete. While her 75-foot veil required a team of 6 people to carry it. Amazing, isn’t it?
Tumblr media
Victoria Swarovski
Heiress to the famous Swarovski crystal brand, Victoria Swarovski  tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, German property  investor, Werner Mürz, in a million dollar dress with a 25 foot veil and 500,000 crystals designed by Michael Cinco.
Tumblr media
Seal your love in Prints!
Warm-up your winter wedding with perky prints that illustrate the beauty of love and family. Angelina Jolie and Sophia Bush give us the ultimate inspiration on artful wedding dresses.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie’s custom-made wedding dress designed by Donatella Versace was a literal  work of art with pictures drawn by her children turned into embroidery by Atelier Versace master tailor Luigi Massi.
Tumblr media
Sophia Bush
The One Tree Hill star chose a Monique Lhuillier floral print dress for her wedding to Grant Hughes earlier this year. From her choice of wedding dress to wedding venue (the Philbrook Museum of Art) the wedding was a celebration of arts and the environment.
Tumblr media
With these Sleeves, I Wed Thee
The focal point of many wedding dresses is the neckline and the sleeves.  There was a time when strapless and spaghetti strap dresses reigned supreme. This soon changed after Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William of England. Her long sleeve dress designed by Sarah Burton revived the long sleeve wedding dress style. Today glove sleeves are making a come-back as seen in the weddings of Kourtney Kardashian and Nicola Peltz. Best of all,  they are perfect for winter wonderland weddings.
Kourtney Kardashian
For her marriage to Travis Barker earlier this year, Kourtney Kardashian went for a mini dress with net glove sleeves designed by Dolce & Gabbana.
Tumblr media
Nicola Peltz
American actress and daughter of billionaire, Nicola Peltz wed Brooklyn Beckham,  first son of David and Victoria Beckham in a Valentino gown with lace gloves which matched her lace veil. Contrary to exoectations that she would wear a gown from her mother-in-laws atelier(read about why she couldn't),  the lace gloves make this dress a hit.
Tumblr media
Bouquet Brilliance
Technically not part of a wedding dress, bouquets are an important element of a bride’s outfit. Princess Diana's wedding to Prince Charles of England in 1981 featured a show-stopping 42-inch bridal bouquet of gardenias, freesias, orchids, and lily of the valley. This cascading bouquet changed the trend of smaller bouquets to big and flowing. Like the people's princess, an over-the-top bouquet maybe all you need to make heads turn.
Tumblr media
In summary, having a beautiful wedding dress comes down to details and coordination. I hope these celebrity wedding dresses give you all the inspiration you need to create an exceptional wedding dress for a memorable winter celebration.
There are several invitations to events like parties and excursions. Dads might enjoy celebrating the wedding ceremony in their own unique way, taking inspiration from celebrity dads for your festive holiday style.
