Tenma stares for three seconds. Tenma smiles for two. Kai catches him looking. Tenma looks away.

Tenma sighed, stupidly. Again. He’s doing that thing that Nonomiya tells him that he keeps on doing when Kai just happens to be in his field of vision. He stares at her and a smiles creeps right on his face at the sight of Kai.

“You know, it’s getting real painful to watch you just pine it out.” His friend patted his shoulder. “Just tell her how you feel, I’ll even pay you—“ Tenma wasn’t even listening, his eyes are completely glued to Kai as she helped around the dorm to tidy up from their closing party.

Tenma notices a lot about Kai when he’s quiet and not busy murmuring about his feelings. Kai isn’t wearing her signature overalls over her jacket, it was just some jeans today. He knew that she loved listening to music while she helped them clean, she dances—swaying quietly and letting a broken lyric slip past her mouth. He notices that she was looking back at him. Now that’s new—

Wait a minute.

Wait a fucking minute. Tenma’s face started turning red as Kai stopped dancing and singing. This was embarrassing, so embarrassing. He's so sure that she could see how red his face is right now but all she gives him is a bashful smile while slightly blushing from their shared embarrassment.

She waves at him, a small gesture. Tenma waves back.

Tenma looks away, face practically on fire and he could hear the tiny conscience in his head that sounded a lot like Yuki for some reason going 'your face is so warm we could practically cook an egg on it, you hack.'

"Kasumi, that was so embarrassing." He covered his face as she laughed at him, patting his back. "Oh my god, is she gone? Please say she's gone. I can't do this. She caught me staring—STARING AT HER."

She laughs at him, giving him a reassuring hug to hide his embarrassed face. "Nope, she's still there." She joked but she felt Tenma cringe as he hid her face into her shoulder.
