I imagine them having a weird story where Mario is a defective robot with a glitch in his system that makes him sentient, and Puzzles is trying to keep him secret. And then they fall in love, and Puzzles is just accepting of his robo-husband and defends him no matter how weird he is.

Also, imagine in Puzzles bought Mario to be a prop in his shows and suddenly this robot becomes his first friend and love? Or if he found Mario in a junk yard and fixed him up (let’s be real, Puzzles gotta know quite a bit about tech if he wanted to own an entire fucking theme park and was able to turn himself into a machine).
