in re that one post everyone was passing around a bit ago:

actually you should be open to befriending people older than you because they're people, just like you are, and if you opened yr eyes to that idea you might start to notice commonalities and points of interest and whatnot

you definitely shouldn't do it because you see them as, like, something Inherently Broadening to dose yrself with

#like fundamentally if yr interacting with anyone because of What the Interaction Will Do For You #and not because of a genuine earnest interest in/appreciation for them as people #yr talking the talk but yr not walking the walk #this is true whether it's White People Reading Black Lit #or Young People Listening to Their Elders #or whatever other Partaker/Partaken-Of dynamic you can imagine #also while we're at it people over 30 are not Elders or Basically Your Parents #like. idk. just stop being weird.#ageism #tbh.#like. okay. i got annoyed by that post at the time and now it's been a while and i feel a lil calmer about it #but i do still think like. some older people will not in fact add much to your life #because aging doesn't actually automatically confer wisdom #ultimately fetishizing age isn't a lot better than despising it #as with any other aspect of identity the point is like. don't categorically steer clear of this kind of person #be neutral and open and then from that standpoint evaluate whether you like them #no one out there wants to be Your X Friend‚ Acquaintance With Whom Has Broadened You #just like. do things appreciatively and sincerely and not in order to put them on yr interpersonal resume #you know?
