He’s had the street kids on the lookout for Robin. Just Robin—Jason doesn’t want to have to deal with Batman at the same time. This is going to be hard enough as it is.
In the end, it’s little Tammy that comes through for him. She’s even managed to stall to give Jason time to get there, by the looks of it, getting Tim to help her look for her lost cat that definitely does not exist. She skips off the second she sees Jason, and he’s half-expecting Tim to immediately dip too. “I didn’t ask her to do that,” is how he opens. Pauses, reconsiders. “Okay, I asked her to help me find you, but the whole cat thing, that wasn’t me.”
He takes his helmet off, figuring it’ll probably be better if Tim can see at least most of his face. Rubs the back of his neck. Better to just come out and say it. Rip the bandaid off, as it were. “I wanted to apologize for what I said.” He figures Tim knows exactly what he’s talking about. “I was an ass, and you didn’t deserve that. I’m, uh, not good at the whole…letting people in thing, anymore.” As Tim has most definitely seen. “And my…issues with Bruce aren’t your fault. I shouldn’t’ve said that shit. So…I’m sorry.”
The second the little girl skipped off, Robin realised he'd been played. Sometimes kids needed a minute or had to figure out a way to talk about something that wouldn't get them in trouble or made sense to them. But no, this one was just waiting for Red Hood to turn up.
The face reveal was helpful, he wanted Hood to see the utter disinterest on his face because Robin wasn't even trying to play nice anymore. At least the girl had been smart enough to just keep him here rather than trying to take him to the Bowery because then he would've just refused to cross that invisible boundry like he had done for the last couple of months. He hoped the disdain was rolling off of him, he hoped Hood was uncomfortable.
"You were." He replied, voice icy. "And I didn't. We're not friends, Red Hood. Hope your kids don't find out you're a jerk to the neurodivergent. Now get the heck back to the only part of the city you care about and stay there."
He didn't linger to see Hood's reaction, he didn't care. Red Hood had proven that no one was really safe from his mood swings, an apology didn't change anything.
Robin had more important things to get to.
