It'd be really funny if Juwan's sexuality is never directly addressed in the main comic, but he casually has a bf in the epilogue and it's nbd

When it comes to a character's sexuality, how would it be... important to the plot? I say this because, well, much as I can admire a well-woven, intricately structured plotline... I often consider the characters themselves as the real meat of the story itself and sometimes their best moments aren't necessarily "plot relevant" but an interpersonal story about who THEY are. It takes a magnifying glass to the bigger picture so we can take a closer look at all the bell and whistles. (cont.)
(cont.) Something like past traumas or a closeted sexual orientation are largely superfluous to the plot more often than not but I like the chance to really see what makes the character tick. I know that filler gets a bad rap as stand-alone stories that stave off the main meat of a TV show but they tend to be seasoning to the entree in my experience, letting us see both the world and characters before the shit hits the fans. That can include a character discovering who they really are inside...
To wrap up my ramblings, I can't help but feel like the "plot" shouldn't be the end all be all for how a story is constructed or how the characters fit into them like they're tiles in a floor. And in regards to how a character's sexuality/race would affect the plot, well, anything could happen with the right skills to pay the bills. I... hope I made some lick of sense here.
One point is if the plotline is ABOUT the character and the sexuality relates to them
Another is if the plotline involves themes of sexuality or such
A third is if there is a romance plotline and this causes them to reveal a part of them.
For an example in RWBY: Illa’s reveal of being a lesbian pushes home her point about Blake not really knowing who she is. It comes naturally as she’s ina high stress situation and is deeply hurt and conflicted while also showing how it affects her view of Blake and her conflict. I want something like THAT, something that works with the character and story, for LGBT characters. Not something tacked on without any exploration as to how that may or may not affect them.
I don’t want it to be like Ruby’s weapon obsession.
