the trouble with social media is that there is no real competition
discord can do whatever the fuck it wants to its UI because there is no alternative for people to hop to en masse
at least when the tumblr porn ban happened people could mostly hop to twitter (before musk took over @ which point there was a migration back) but there Is no other major chat/voicecall platform
