consent is an important moral/legal consideration. but it is not the only one.
#saw a post on twitter where someone was saying cannibalism should be legalized#because there's nothing inherently immoral about it#and as i've mentioned elsewhere i tend to agree#but just because something isn't inherently immoral doesn't mean it's good#or that it should be legalized#and for the record it is technically legal already so this is kind of a moot point#as far as i'm aware there aren't any actual laws criminalizing eating human flesh#but most methods of acquiring human flesh are#so i'm taking this argument to refer to /that/#and there are just so many obvious issues with this#as there are with all consent-based arguments#and i want to make clear i'm not saying consent doesn't matter at all#it does#i'm just saying it isn't the be-all and end-all#and i don't even know why this is controversial#because we already violate peoples' consent all the time in a variety of socially acceptable ways#i agree that cannibalism isn't inherently morally wrong#but i don't think it should just be totally legalized#anyway i'm just saying#this pure consent-based moral absolutism is degenerate
