Seeing Suki flirt amazingly horrendously with Sokka in Ep 2 reminded me of my high school years and now I need to share:
There was a guy in my class I had liked for a while (it was clear he liked me back too) and we happened to go on the same church retreat together. But alas, instead of using the week together to get to know each other more, we stayed shy and only interacted in the same little ways as usual.
But during one free period, my chance came. He and I were playing a game of knockout with the other teens, and he was in line right before me.
(Side note: I had broken my pinkie playing frisbee the day our bus took us to the retreat center, and the little hospital in the middle of nowhere gave me the most massive cast for some reason, going almost down to my elbow.)
Anyways so there I was, using only my non-dominant hand to play a basketball game against my crush. And for some reason I took this as an opportunity to prove my undying love by trying to defeat him in combat??? Idk what I was thinking, but thanks to my competitive nature, I actually won against him in that round. Usually in knockout, you leave the game after one defeat, but this time we were playing with an extra life.
After that win against my poor crush, I was exhilarated with the same feeling as all the other times we had flirted by locking gazes across the room or brushing past each other in the hallway. And of course, I was so proud of myself for doing well in a game where two hands is usually vital.
Now you might be wondering what happened the next time it was our turn.
Reader, I demolished him.
While his basketball was bouncing off the rim, mine soared through the air and slipped through the net with a satisfying swoosh.
I had done it! This was the ultimate flirt! Now that he had seen my incredible basketball prowess, there was no doubt that he--
He walked away. And didn't talk to me for the rest of the day.
Welp.
