Basil Hallward deserved better :(

I have been writing on my essay about the characters in the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray all day (okay, not all day, but most of the day). Let me tell you, I god damn love Basil Hallaward. He is such a sweetheart! And I am so sad because he deserved so much more! He was nothing but kind and in love and I am so frustrated because I just want him to be happy but he is instead, spoiler, dead!!! What is this?! Even when his relationships with Dorian was basically gone he still genuinely cared about him and wanted to help him. I don’t know why I’m so emotional but I’m going to go cry now.
