Ava whined, already anticipating Min's reaction as she finished recounting the story behind her latest impulsive decision. While a lot of people had the tendency to reach for hair dye and scissors when they were feeling the restless itch to make a change, Ava didn't really share the same rush of excitement when it came to experimenting with her look. Sure, she loved making other people feel beautiful, and she was always the first to urge a client to go bolder, to try something fresh and new with their hair. But when it concerned her own raven locks, she liked them just fine the way they were. Therefore, when things in her life started to feel uncertain, her methods of proving to herself that she was the one in control involved making... less than intelligent impulse purchases. And if the treat in question was small enough, the youngest Adler had no qualms potentially risking a misdemeanor to shoplift a shiny new toy for herself (if anything, it offered double the rush), but this time, she had nearly maxed out one of her credit cards just to secure the luxury item in front of them. Chewing on her lower lip and staring at the black leather Tory Burch handbag in her station chair, its gold accents sparkling beautifully under the salon lights, she managed to ask in a feeble voice, "Do you think it's too late to return it?"

They had been given the last minutes of the class to practice and sharpen the moves of this week's choreography and while Lou seemed to be cheerfully chatting with the others, Seojun had his eyes trained on the mirror to pull some footwork that he had trouble with. Damn the day he decided to blindly bet with Lou and his undefeatable luck; but Seojun was not a quitter and when a challenge was presented to him, he would proudly face it or die trying ( a bit extreme considering this was just dancing, but Seojun was very passionate about everything ). Technically he could ask for help to sort it out better; but what were his options? Lou and the instructor were already cooling down, some other students he talked to once had left and then there was also Min. "Absolutely not", he muttered before trying again, only to embarrassingly trip and almost fall, hoping no one had noticed.

The last thing Val was expecting to see on her walk to work was a ghost. At least, that's what it felt like. It had been several years since she'd last seen Tomo—during the final round of promotions for their low budget indie film. And of all the places to run into her former co-star, the fact that he happened to pop up in Anchorage was so absurdly comical to the blonde, she let out an involuntary laugh. Though Valerie enjoyed some success in her industry days, it was hardly comparable to Tomo's expansive career, so the reality of seeing him milling around her new home ground felt doubly absurd to her. "Oh my God, it is you," she blurted when she got a closer look, hit with the confirmation that he wasn't just a mirage conjured up by her imagination. Despite the initial shock, a sunny grin lit up the performer's features. True, she had been an entirely different version of herself when they first knew each other, practically a shadow of present-day Valerie, consumed by grief over her lost childhood. But it was still nice to see a familiar face again, especially when he had helped her through such a difficult time. "Tomo! What are you doing here?!" Val was just about to go in for a hug, when it occurred to her that she'd intentionally altered her look quite a bit since then, and lest she be confused with a random woman acting way too friendly with a movie star, she might need to actually identify herself. "Oh, it's Val! I don't really go by Margo anymore, and I ditched the brown hair and bangs. I actually work here now," she explained cheerily, pointing towards the carnival tents.

Kwon Ara was in a bad mood.

Not that she was necessarily ever in a good mood — but four sixteen hour shifts at the hospital with little sleep in-between frayed on her nerves; a pathetic attempt to drown out the conversation that had taken place only a couple days ago with Seojun. Emotions were fickle things. She’d spent twenty-five years of her life avoiding them altogether — yet somehow, in this sleepy town in Alaska, they had caught up to her. Clawing at the edges of her consciousness, fighting with every shot she took to try to sterilize them; to feel the liquor’s burn rather than the one in the middle of her chest. 

It was late when she finally called to close her tab, most of the patrons of the bar having already left, settling into bed for the next workday. She turned to the person beside her, about to ask for a pen to sign the check — 

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”

Tomo Katsumura. One blink, then another, simply to confirm that he was there in the flesh, instead of some alcohol-induced apparition from her past.

(i would just really prefer to avoid the trope of 'put-upon woman reluctantly cleaning up after annoying man's messes').

Sitting in a salon chair long enough for any work to be done had always been difficult for Naji, hence why he'd bleached his hair on his own for a long time, or let teammates buzz it down for him. But, uh, it never looked great, no matter what he tried to tell himself in those days. So, begrudgingly, he'd gotten into the habit of going to the salon ever since he'd settled back in Alaska. He didn't have enough time to get it fixed up before the trial, which had irked him considerably, and now he was starting to feel like a shaggy fucking dog. He preferred keeping his style cropped quite close, allowing just enough length on the top to let his natural curl pattern say hello; and he liked it white blond, a far cry from the dark brown that grew naturally from his scalp.

If it got too long, it would get disheveled, and it would be half blond and half deep brown, and overall a fucking mess. Which he felt like now as he sat in Min's chair and stared himself down in the giant mirror. Naji made a face at his reflection, and then tilted his head back, looking at Min upside-down. "Same as usual, chief. Although, if you talk real sweet to me, maybe you can convince me to do a fun color on the blond this time." His dark brows waggled once; he'd been told before that his thick hair was fun to play with or whatever. "I know stylists go nuts for that kinda shit."
