it took him a while to notice you for the first time

you were always in the background, always running late, with your head lowered in order to write in that worn notebook you were always carrying around, always on the phone. eddie mostly dealt with your boss, his tour manager, or rather your boss had to deal with him — he admitted he wasn't the easiest act to work with, but the guys would digress

the first time he saw you, truly saw you, you were bringing him coffee. alone in the studio, late at night, the rest of the band had already left, their producer and the recording crew left him alone to work, knowing he wouldn't leave until he got this riff right. someone must have called you in, because he certainly didn't

you came in, quiet as a mouse, with a warm coffee in hand. almost didn't say anything, except to make yourself known, and call him mr. munson, which made him promptly say "mr. munson is my old man, please, call me eddie", to which you simply replied, "i'm sorry. that's for you, eddie"

for some reason, working got more difficult after the night went on, long after you had left, because all he could hear, instead of the chord progression of his guitar, was your voice calling his name over and over

he started seeing you everywhere, then. at the front of the tour bus, going over their schedule. backstage, helping solve whatever problem surged. it was like he was meeting you for the first time, though technically he knew you for months. he noticed you looking at him too, meeting his stare and looking away, always watching their soundcheck with the excuse of making sure everything was alright. but eddie knew better, because he was making excuses to be closer to you too

asking for food at odd hours, complaining about problems that didn't exist or he could easily solve himself, walking you to your hotel room every night, requesting your presence in non-tour related outings, "just in case". he trusted you, that's what he told everyone

and it was true. but it was also true that he couldn't wait to get you truly alone with him
