i understand that people generally don't mean for it to come off this way but it always peeves me when ameribrits and co talk about the state of lgbtqa+ rights in other counties as if homophobia and transphobia present there are a virus or some boogeyman that is going to breach containment and come for them. like oh what's this??? here comes christianity with a steel chair!! guess what our bigotry is your bigotry buddy. it always has been

#it's always like oh isn't it so scary what is happening in those countries they're so backwards #hey quick question who brought say catholicism to the continent of africa who could it have been #i'm watching hozier's new album interview and i respect him and value what he says but he was talking about the story behind tmtc mv #something about how he said 'it's a culture that can cross borders and now it has' referring to the rise of homotransphobia in the us #i think many ameribritcetera consciously or unconsciously believe that their countries are some beacons and trailblazers of human rights #and everyone else with rare exceptions needs to have the light brought to them or else they're trying to take it away #which is ironically the most christian shit ever #i guess what i'm trying to say is that bigotry ripples #it doesn't come from one place and requires the right conditions to flourish #for example the rise of transphobia in the world is absolutely stoked by jk rowling so can we say that it came from england?#i mean putin literally referenced her in his speech #not really that garbage was already around she just set it on fire #bigotry doesn't 'come' from anywhere it doesn't 'cross borders' it lives everywhere waiting for an opportunity #splitting the world into countries that stand against homophobia and countries that bring it doesn't help it dehumanises and divides us #(alsoiknowthathozierisirishthatwasnotthepoint)
