The more i learn abt dog training the less i want to work with the trainer we work with and the less i want to pursue my original goals w cosmo... maybe time to re-evaluate and make some unpleasant decisions
#ive fought my trainer on just abt every single thing training-wise#when i contacted her originally i was very clear about my expectations and goals#and she was like yup sounds good!#and part of that was that i wanted to emphasize my relationship b/w me n cosmo#and that i was unwilling to use corrective collars and force#and she was like ‘we’re 99% positive reinforcement! i use a prong bc of mobility issues’#well we’ve been working together since like september of 2019 and most of what she told me in the beginning was a lie#id say 9/10 of her clients use prongs and ecollars#and the 1/10 are working w dogs that are too young or havent been in the program for long enough#and i honestly like using an ecollar :/ it gives me peace of mind and i NEED to rewire my thinking on that#i really love it for field work since i like him having off leash time#but i like it as a safety in case he doesn’t recall immediately in an emergency essentially. like thats when im 100% thankful for having it#but for just abt everything else we train its done nothing for me#i cant even pretend i was really well trained on it either#i did a lot of research on my own but again ive relied on it for quick fixes instead of actually training my dog 🙃#i literally think i escalated his excitement w dogs with it.#bc now im back to controlled distance and offering attention and hes doing so well#anyways i need to journal abt this i think#x
