this is HARD I don't think I actually consume that much media that 1) contains clear cut villains where 2) said villain is not cartoonishly evil. Like. I had to Think About This and go through my watch/reading lists to get ideas lmao.

I'm going for a deep early modern cut to say Milton's Satan because wow what a character! like: "which way I fly is hell; myself am hell; and in the lowest deep a lower deep, still threat’ning to devour me, opens wide, to which the hell I suffer seems a heaven." damn!!! man's got the best lines in the whole poem (villain? debatable imo, but I think most people would say he is, so)
