the freshest first-wave Octopunk band!! they only made music for 5 years but have had decades long impacts on both music and the world around them. shaping the Octopunk subculture, and the way octolings approach protesting against oppression.

Pacifica is the eldest sister, she is the heart of the band. she plays bass and does the community work.

Calypso is the second oldest, she is the body of the band. she sings, plays tambourine, dances, and hypes the crowd up

Abyssa is the youngest sister, she is the mind of the band. she write lyrics, plays drums, and manages finances/promotion.

aside from their high energy punk sound that makes you want to get up and jump around, their most famous or infamous legacy came from the way they would organize music festivals with fellow bands to educate the masses. they had ton of these Octopunk festivals and they were a massive success, unfortunately the most well known festivals ended in tragedy when the venue was raided by octarian army. no more festivals, just safe basement shows where nothing on that scale could ever happen again.

their lasting influence is the new wave of Octopunk, lead by the generation who was raised on the first wave. they now live in a better world that the OG Octopunks worked hard for, and still there is much room for improvement. the new wave has influences from other alternative genres such as Batfish and Seamo for a new generation with new problems

Calypso O'Teuthis iconic moments from the start of Three of Hearts to the end

(age 23) at the start of their first album, Abyssa wrote a song called "Running Start" about how revolution cant happen if you dont move. it was a high tempo rock song where Pacifica and Calypso would jog in place with the beat of Abyssa's drums. during rehearsal, Abyssa had a hard time doing her drum solo without her older sisters doing something, so Pacifica would dance and hype up the crowd. when deciding what to do, Calypso just improvised and sprinted around the perimeter of the stage and then ran the perimeter of the pit in front of the stage. Abyssa found that hilarious so that just became the routine whenever they played Running Start. she would use her carbon roller and mark out her path and tell the audience to be mindful where they stand, quote "if you've been here before, you know, and if not; you're about to find out". this routine was a huge hit with the fans and became a right of passage to stand in the back so you would get the chance to high-five her as the runs past.

thanks to the pay from their first show, Calypso got a tambourine from the local music supply store. her new tambourine was a way to keep on beat along side Abyssa, and she used her highschool cheer experience to choreograph their shows. Three of Hearts started collaborating with fellow Octopunk band and close personal friends, Tentakillers. they would plan their shows and jam together.

(age 25) this iconic outfit is from their last show before going on a year long hiatus, and their biggest and most well known shows. Tentakillers and Coral Riff opened, which was the prototype for the upcoming Octopalooza festivals. dozens of photos were taken during this concert and many recordings exist, including an official concert recording by Abyssa. what many didn't know at the time right until the end of the show when Calypso announced it herself, but she was pregnant and the reason for the hiatus was maternity leave. some of the newer fans were sad to not get any shows or new music for a year, but older fans were happy and supportive. incubating for octoling mothers is an extremely difficult process, which is why the maternal mortality rate was so high in the past, so she really cannot work or even move much. the egg that is now an octoling named Grim took 2 months to hatch, and it took several months for her to regain full strength and health.

(age 27) after the hiatus, Three of Hearts were ready to rock! the pride of being back at full health after her pregnancy and having a healthy baby, she was thrilled to get back to performing. Octopalooza is in full effect, this is the third one. there's bands, vendors, artists with booths selling their work, and mutual aid resources. these were so popular that roughly 20% of the octoling soldiers stationed in Hadalburgh began to defect after going to the shows. Dj Octavio was made aware of an uprising happening in the deep sea domes and sent elite soldiers and dozens of troopers to Hadalburgh to shut down the festival, but nobody was willing to go down without a fight which lead to the Octarians attempting control through violence. the bands performing stopped to tell everyone to evacuate as quickly as possible, and they would show the way. Three of Hearts finished their set earlier so theyre just relaxing and getting something to eat when they see the commotion. Calypso knew what she had to do, it was coded into her genes, she had to sacrifice herself to save her family. she held Grim for the last time and told her sisters to get home fast. Calypso, Bobbie Sepiolida from Tentakillers, and Nelle Boreo from Coral Riff got their weapons and fought back. they successfully took out many Octarian soldiers but Nelle and Calypso were caught and taken by the army. Nelle managed to escape but Calypso was taken and sanitized which was her worst fear. several days later, a solider arrived to the O'Teuthis apartment with the sanitized body of Calypso, she was as alive as she could be in such a state but her body shut down and passed away days later. an octo mother's life is one of sacrifice and tragedy.

I feel like this image of sanitisation *factories* shows that octolings totaly get sanitised outside of Tartar. While Tartar developedit i'm sure he wouldn't say no to octarians being brought to him *For* sanitisation

i was just about to elaborate on the last ask to say that Tartar sanitizes octos for the Kamabo Co and the local governments sanitize octos to make them more functional cogs in the machine. Tartar has a higher success rate of making functional sanitized octos, but the facility in Hadalburgh is sketchy, which is why sanitization left Calypso braindead and killed her in a matter of days.

How many floors does the mariana have, and which one does Maggie and Grim live on

The Mariana is the tallest of the trio of apartment complexes, so it has 10 floors. Maggie lives on the 4th floor and Grim and her family live on the 3rd floor. Maggie moved into her apartment when she was 18 from a small isolated town in the depths. Pacifica, Calypso, and Abyssa lived in their apartment their whole lives and raised Grim there too. Grim still lives with Pacifica and Abyssa.

fun facts about Grim O'Teuthis

she never uses the "do you know who i am? do you know who my family is?" unless some guy tries to quiz her to prove she's not a "fake fan" when she wears one of her Three of Hearts band tees. which unfortunately happens often bc she's a punk girl who goes to college. but whenever this does happen, she is usually able to instantly roast them into oblivion.

Grim goes to Hadalburgh University and is an archeology major, specializing in Octarian history. She primarily does live in the deep but goes to Octo Valley and Octo Canyon archeological sites for class.

she enjoys making music but doesn't expect it to be a full-time job. it's a way to bond with others, make a change, and to have fun.

she loves her family deeply and misses her mom a lot, but she struggles to find her own identity as an artist and activist. she honors Calypso in her performances by taking inspiration from her fashion and stage presence in the videos Abyssa recorded, but retains her own vocal and dance style. Grim mostly just wears some of her jewelry since all of Calypso's clothes from past her teen years don't fit Grim (she did not inherit Caly's curves)

she grew up learning ballet, so her on-stage dance style is highly expressive and controlled the way ballet is.

she has a massive collection of funky earrings, most are second-hand or made by friends

she is a solid 5'2" but wears platform shoes all the time to make up for it

Grim got into music, and more specifically Octopunk, to honor her mother who was a part of the first wave.

Calypso O'Teuthis and her band, Three of Hearts, were a big deal in the underground Octopunk movement. Three of Hearts consisted of Calypso, her older sister, Pacifica, and their lifelong friend, Ottavia. they got big during the early years of Tartar's rule and heavily protested against sanitizing innocent octos.

Calypso was not a typical octoling mother during this time, she did not teach her daughter how to obedient and passive. she wasn't a perfectly functional and organized person, but she was a great mother to Grim and raised her with support and love.

during a protest show, the venue was raided by octarian soldiers and she was taken into custody. a day later, she returned home sanitized and barely functioning as she used to. Pacifica took care of little Grim because Calypso just couldn't do anything anymore.

Pacifica did what she could but Grim losing her mother had long lasting effects. this lead to her activism and punk rock spirit.

Octopunk was quite literally an underground movement in the Deep Sea to protest the harsh conditions under DJ Octavio, with themes specifically focusing on militarization, sanitization, and violations of autonomy. Octopunk was pioneered by female octos who started the genre to specifically protest the way that the army and sanitization disproportionately affected the girls. Octopunk is for everyone of every demographic who wants to fight the system.

Grim and Marine Snow live in a post Calamari Inkantation Deep Sea, and things are much better for everyone but there is still room for improvement. thats where the Octopunks come in!

Three of Hearts - Marine Snow timeline

Pacifica, Calypso, and Abyssa O'Teuthis grew up super close and would learn to play music together.

Pacifica and Abyssa were in the school orchestra, Calypso was in cheer.

they liked to write songs and play them together but never got serious about it until they were in college

Pacifica was 26, Calypso was 23, and Abyssa was 20 when they started Three of Hearts.

the name "Three of Hearts" comes from there being 3 members, octopuses having 3 hearts, and a reference to playing cards. Pacifica was a master at a bunch of different card games that her college dorm mate taught her, who then taught those to her sisters.

they recorded tapes in their apartment but didn't get an audience until a close friend with a band asked them to open for them with their first album.

with the help of some friends in her communications class, Abyssa was able to get their album on the college radio station. once they got set up with an indie label, the sisters used their first paycheck to get a video camera to shoot music videos. they aired their music videos on a student-run public access channel.

second album "Challenger" was released

live shows every other weekend in different venues. the trio started a blog to give their fans updates and show schedules.

1 year hiatus from songwriting and 6 month hiatus from performances. Calypso was getting ready to have a baby and Pacifica and Abyssa had to look after her because of the high mortality rate of octoling mothers.

Pacifica started an art pop side project called "Chasm". Abyssa was finishing up her degree in literature. Calypso was still recovering from the incubation period and taking care of her baby octoling named Grim.

third album called "Bite like a Dogfish" comes out

collaboration with fellow artists led to a movement of Octopunk music festivals used to drown out government propaganda and bring joy to the inhabitants of the depths. there was about 9 of these over the course of 3 years. they were a massive success.

the final Octopunkapalooza ended in an army raid that left many injured and some prominent leaders being taken into octarian army custody. including Calypso. Calypso told everyone to go home and leave as quickly as possible, she hugged her daughter and send her sisters home with her. she fought back, she splatted a few octotroopers but she wasnt fast enough and she was taken.

3 days go by and their worst fear was confirmed, Calypso came home sanitized.

over the course of 10 years, everyone dealt with their grief differently; Pacifica returned to working on Chasm where she wrote songs of pain and regret. Abyssa used their old footage from her video camera to make films paying tribute to the rise and fall of first wave Octopunk. Grim grew up with the love and support of her aunts but nobody could replace her mom and who she used to be.

a now 20 year old Grim now makes Neo Octopunk Riot Hen music with her close friends in a band called Marine Snow. She knew how Calypso wouldnt want everyone to be sad, all she wanted was to make the world a better place. Grim felt the best way to honor her memory was to use some of her signature things (lacy dresses with fishnets and spiky jewelry, energetically running and jumping around the stage, and similar belting style) and adding her own modern spin on it.

Pacifica teaches art classes at the community center and plays bass for some of Marine Snow's songs. Abyssa really fell in love with film making, and now teaches at the University she went to
