Darren Criss Joins Voice Cast For DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’ Series

EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Darren Criss is lending his voice to the upcoming 10th season of DreamWorks Animation‘s hit preschool series Gabby’s Dollhouse, which premieres August 5 on Netflix.

Criss will take on the voice of Marty the Party Cat, the latest Gabby Cat who lives in the newly unveiled “Party Room.”  Marty can use his Party Tail to magically change the look of the Party Room to fit any occasion and loves to sing, dance, play games, and throw confetti.

Criss joins the cast alongside Laila Lockhart Kraner, who stars as the titular character Gabby.

Glee alum Criss voiced Superman in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Parts One and Two and will next be heard as the character inPart Three, set for release on July 16. He also will be returning to the stage in the Broadway premiere of the new musical Maybe Happy Ending, in which he also will be making his Broadway producing debut. Criss won the 2018 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for The Assassination of Gianni Versace – American Crime Story. His other recent credits include guest roles on Hazbin Hotel and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, among others. EXCLUSIVE: HBO‘s The Gilded Age has tapped six for supporting roles in Season 3: Dylan Baker (The Good Wife), Kate Baldwin (Broadway’s Hello, Dolly!), Michael Cumpsty (Severance), John Ellison Conlee (Boardwalk Empire), Bobby Steggert (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and newcomer Hannah Shealy (The Rose Tattoo).

Baker plays Dr. Logan, a family doctor who treats a number of high society families, with Baldwin as Nancy Adams Bell, the older sister of John Adams (Claybourne Elder). Cumpsty portrays Lord Mildmay, a British nobleman who comes to dine at Sidmouth Castle, with Conlee as the successful, educated and polished businessman, Weston; Steggert as the famed artist John Singer Sargent, who has just begun his career painting the great ladies of society; and Shealy as Charlotte Astor, the married daughter of Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy), recently returned from an eventful trip abroad.

Currently filming its third installment, The Gilded Age is an ensemble drama telling the story of The American Gilded Age, a period of immense economic and social change, when huge fortunes were made and lost overnight. With the old guard officially deposed, New York society finds itself turned upside down, and all must get their house in order. But even those at the helm of this new era may find that change comes at a cost.

Other newcomers in Season 3 include Bill Camp as JP Morgan, Merritt Wever as Monica O’Brien, Leslie Uggams as Mrs. Ernestine Brown, Lisagay Hamilton as Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, Andrea Martin as Madame Dashkova, Paul Alexander Nolan as Alfred Merrick, Hattie Morahan as Lady Sarah Vere, and Jessica Frances Dukes as Athena Trumbo.

The Gilded Age is created by Julian Fellowes, who writes and exec produces alongside Sonja Warfield. Other executive producers include Gareth Neame, David Crockett, Michael Engler and Salli Richardson-Whitfield (who also direct), and Bob Greenblatt. Erica Dunbar serves as historical consultant and co-executive producer.

A co-production between HBO and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, the show’s casting directors are Bernie Telsey and Adam Caldwell from the Telsey Office.

Filming began this week in Massachusetts on romantic dramedy The Weekend on Cape Cod When Everything Changed, starring Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy), Kevin Nealon (Weeds), Medalion Rahimi (NCIS: Los Angeles), Logan Miller (Escape Room), Richie Moriarty (Ghosts), Layla Mohammadi (The Persian Version), Nicholas Coombe (The Wilds), newcomer Michael Baszler, and Dalia Rooni (NCIS: Los Angeles), who also wrote the script.

Pic tells the story of a wide-eyed Iranian immigrant who accepts a wedding proposal from her billionaire boss’s son in order to remain in the United States. What starts out as a simple green card wedding becomes much more when her two closest friends arrive with their own boyfriends and cross-cultural baggage in tow.

The ensemble piece is directed by Lauren Noll and marks the debut feature film from writer-actor Dalia Rooni. Casting was by Jamie Ember (Thelma).

The film is being produced by Studio 15, a development and distribution company headquartered in Upstate South Carolina and managed by the husband-and-wife duo Chris White and Emily Reach White. It will also be the first film under Medalion Rahimi’s production company Saffron Honey Films, and first narrative feature film for producer Zein Khleif.

“Dalia’s script is hilarious, heartfelt, and razor-sharp,” said Noll. “We’re diving into the messiness of transition, challenging friendships, cultural identity in relationships, and the strange rituals of adulthood—with an absolutely stellar cast.”
