Dangerous memory indicts our desires for facile or abstract resolutions to historical oppressions. It fights against complacency and timelessness, forgetfulness and distortion. It critiques the status quo, resists forgetting, recalls what has been lost, and enables hope. Dangerous memory carries the potential for salvation of the human subject, history, and religion. At the heart of the Christian story, Metz argues, is a "dangerous memory"—that of Jesus Christ—more specifically the memoria passionis et resurrectionis Jesu Christi, the memory of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. More specifically still, it is the memory of Jesus' suffering that Metz deems dangerous.

Check Up Tag

@deltajackdalton was sweet enough to tag me in this nice "check up tag" thing ❤ I've been kind of in a dark place for a while now, so it struck me as a healthy thing to put in the effort to answer these questions and I'm honestly touched anytime I'm remembered around here, seeing as I basically dropped off the face of Tumblr earth :p So I thought I'd try this.

ETA: I'm embarrassed. I haven't talked about myself in ages, so when I started answering these questions, all this unpleasant truth came out. I told myself when I did this that editing what occurred to me to say would defeat the purpose of why I responded to this tag in the first place, so feel free to just skip this whole messy post 🤦

How has your day been?

Today wasn't bad, actually. I got some work done. Had lunch with my kids. I'm feeling really down on myself because I put off making some necessary and some expected phone calls AGAIN today, for absolutely no reason. But tomorrow is another day 🤞

What's the last thing that made you smile?

I've been digitizing all of the old photos I have and sorting all of digital photos and uploading them to a site so I can share them with my family. The baby pictures of my kids made my face hurt from smiling... And, okay, cringing. The Cute ™ is actually physically painful in its intensity :p

What's been keeping you entertained lately?

Reading Agatha Christie novels or Melinda Metz's Mac series :p (No, not that Mac ;) The one with paws!) I've also been rewatching Psych and working my way through Whodoku - the best puzzle book I've ever owned! On the phone I've gotten hooked on Redecor.

If you're in quarantine, what would you like to achieve?

I wish I could quarantine. I have a health condition that makes me particularly vulnerable to COVID-19. I'm a teacher and the school I work for will not allow any faculty to continue working from home when we open up in August, even though the COVID stats in our area are the highest they've ever been this month and rising. I'm honestly terrified about my chances of making it through the fall, but I can't afford to break my contract. I left a very toxic relationship in January, and basically had to get out with what I could haul away with my car when I did. The cost of the move and putting together a new home for myself and my youngest child bankrupt me. So I'm just praying. I've made arrangements for my youngest in case I do get sick. I do hope to achieve something before I do have to go back to school though - I want to finish this photo project and I've been writing something for my kids I hope to wrap up :)
