Whatever Happened To Josh Rosen
by; BenJarmin Munguia
Tumblr media
After a successful college career at UCLA, Rosen had the exact opposite when he landed in the NFL.
Rosen was taken 10th overall by the Arizona Cardinals, the 4th quarterback selected, just behind Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Josh Allen. However, the UCLA star and the Cardinals still had to hope for a successful franchise.
"I promise you will not regret this," Rosen told former Cardinals GM Steve Keim after he got drafted. "We're going to win some Super Bowls. I promise you."
Josh Rosen was under his first year with first-year head coach Steve Wilks. As they entered the season with high hopes and weapons like the future hall of fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and running back David Johnson, it seems the team could shoot at the very least an 'improving season.'
The Cardinals finished 3-13 and last place in the NFL. The team was dead last with 225 points. (14 PPG). Roses finished his rookie year in the NFL with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, with the only highlight that year being beating the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau on a game-winning drive.
The season was so disappointing that Steve Wilks was fired after his first year as head coach.
On January 8th, 2019. The Cardinals hired former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury after rumors were circulating that The Cardinals would draft Texas A&M quarterback Kyler Murry. This would mean that Rosen was going to get traded.
Kingburry just did as the rumor was told. The Cardinals drafted Murray with the #1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. The very next day, Arizona traded Rosen to the Dolphins for a second-round pick.
However, there was yet to be an answer for what the Dolphins had in mind for the former 10th pick overall. Rosen was listed behind quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and just ahead of 3rd-string quarterback Matt Haack.
Josh Rosen played in 6 games, starting 3. He completed 53% of his passes, throwing for one touchdown and five interceptions. He was then released in September 2020.
The former UCLA star remained positive: "I was drafted in the first round, and I think people around the league still think I can play to a certain extent. Whenever that opportunity comes, wherever it comes, I just want to be prepared for it," Rosen said via ESPN.
Josh would find new light after signing with the San Francisco 49ers in December 2020. However, he did not get any playing time at the bay. He was released in August 2021 after being unable to compete for a roster spot behind Trey Lance and Jimmy Garapollo.
The Atlanta Falcons' second-string quarterback, AJ Macaron, suffered a season-ending injury in August 2021. They signed Josh Rosen, who would back up starting quarterback Matt Ryan.
Rosen only had a thread of playing time in the Peach State, playing in 3 games. Rosen did not complete more than a single pass in one game, completing 2 of his 11 passes and throwing two interceptions on the year. He was released after the season had ended.
Rosen signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns in July 2022 but was released before the regular season started. In December 2022, he was also part of the Minnesota Vikings practice squad but was released after the 2022 season ended.
Rosen is not currently on an NFL team, but he is known to have had a short shot with the NFL. As the saying goes, "You only have one shot."
What other NFL players were quickly wiped away from a roster after their big day at the draft?

Owners of Columbus Components have closed at least 10 plants in 10 years
By Kirk Johannesen and Boris Ladwig, The Republic
THE owners of Columbus Components Group have closed at least 10 manufacturing plants in North America in the last decade and eliminated at least 1,500 jobs.
A former CCG executive said many of the companies did not generate a profit - but produced enough revenues to pay the owners a management fee.
Cleveland, Ohio-area businessmen Patrick K. James, Jay L. Schabel and Michael D. Klinginsmith bought the former Arvin-Meritor Inc. plant on 17th Street in 2004.
In the last decade, James, now CCG's sole owner, has owned at least 16 automotive-related companies in five states and two countries. At least 10 of those have closed.
One of the companies, Cleveland-based Dickey-Grabler, had operated for 125 years when James bought it in March 2007. Ten months later, it folded.
An 11th company, Pennsylvania-based Hood & Co., was closed and the employees let go before assets were sold to another company, which reopened the facility and rehired the employees.
Four companies are still operating: Cleveland area-based Hawthorn Manufacturing LLC, Detroit-based International Specialty Tube LLC, Columbus Components Group LLC and Madison-based Century Tube LLC, which James bought in February.
Columbus Components Group sent a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice to Indiana Department of Workforce Development on March 23, stating that the withdrawal of sales orders by clients would result in layoffs and possible closure.
James, who often purchases other companies through his principal companies, Hawthorn and Viking, could not be reached despite repeated attempts.
James, Schabel and Klinginsmith formed Hawthorn Manufacturing Corp. in 2006 and Hawthorn Manufacturing LLC in 2007.
Schabel, who lives in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, said he left Hawthorn about 1½ years ago.
He now runs a farm with his wife and is chief operating officer of Polyflow Corp., an Akron, Ohio-based Clean Technology startup.
Klinginsmith also has left the company, according to Rick Bohn, Hawthorn's former chief operating officer. Klinginsmith also could not be reached.
Local CCG officials repeatedly have declined to be interviewed.
Employment decline
Employment at CCG has fallen from 520 in 2004, when Schabel, Klinginsmith and James bought it, to about 140. On April 9, the company laid off 123.
Bohn said that James, Schabel and Klinginsmith, bought the former Arvin-Meritor plant because it fit a profile of companies they desired.
"Their strategy was to ... try to purchase businesses that were stressed," Bohn said.
That allowed the purchasers to obtain the companies with relatively low startup costs, Bohn said.
Some of the companies that Viking/Hawthorn bought had just gone through bankruptcy or changed ownership or were struggling like many other companies in the automotive business, Bohn said.
"Every one was a challenge," he said.
Bohn, who lives in Ohio and said that he left the company under good terms, said that the Viking/Hawthorn principals tried to acquire related businesses to give them more of a strategic foothold. For example, if they acquired an exhaust system supplier, they would try to acquire other similar suppliers.
Bohn said James' strength in marketing and business development allowed the company to establish a sizable network through which it would find out about possible acquisitions.
Sometimes the customers of a business that was being sold or about to close asked the Viking/Hawthorne principals to take over, because the customers did not want to lose their suppliers, Bohn said.
"I don't think there was any other strategy than that," he said.
While Bohn was with the company, it owned auto suppliers in locations including New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Ontario, Canada.
"During my (tenure) ... something happened to every one of them," Bohn said.
All of the companies had struggled previously, though, he said, and capital was limited.
"The shining star actually was CCG," he said.
The former ArvinMeritor plant had good equipment and was relatively healthy and therefore did not require a substantial capital infusion, Bohn said.
ArvinMeritor sold the plant, which stamped exhaust systems components, as part of a larger strategy to shed operations that it did not consider its main focus.
Breaking even
Bohn also said that the companies bought by Hawthorn and Viking often generated no profit.
At fiscal year's end, sometime the income was zero or negative, he said.
However, the businesses generated enough revenues to make bank loan payments and pay utility bills, suppliers and employees.
And, Bohn said, "There (was) enough revenue to draw some kind of management fee or salary (for the principals)."
Typically the new owners would try to secure commitments from existing customers and then find new customers to keep the business going, Bohn said.
"Unfortunately, in almost every case it required things that weren't necessarily controllable," he said.
Schabel said Hawthorn was a private, entrepreneurial company that was fairly diversified and that its business strategy evolved over the years. Schabel said he worked for the company four years.
He said he could not discuss details about the business because he signed a non-disclosure agreement when he left.
He said he has not had contact with James for about 10 months.
James was born in 1965, according to a Data Universal Numbering System report, which provides background information on companies. The DUNS report stated that James has been employed in the automotive industry since 1986.

Northern Kentucky: 2022-23 Horizon Men's Basketball Champions
Tumblr media
INDIANAPOLIS -- Marques Warrick scored 18 points and Sam Vinson added 16 to lead Northern Kentucky to a 63-61 victory over Cleveland State and win the Horizon League Tournament championship on Tuesday.
The Norse (22-12), one-point losers to Wright State in last year's title game, advance to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time since 2017.
Warrick made four consecutive free throws in the final half-minute to give the Norse a seven-point lead. The Vikings (21-13) scored twice in the final 10 seconds but a 3-pointer came with just 0.2 left.
Trey Robinson added 12 points for the Norse, who outscored the Vikings 21-7 off turnovers, making 14 steals. They sank 16 of 18 at the line to 5 of 10 for Cleveland State.
Tristan Enaruna scored 17 points and Deshon Parker 14 for Cleveland State. Deante Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds.
There were 14 lead changes and 12 ties in a game in which neither team led by double figures.
Leading by seven midway through the second half, the Norse went scoreless for over six minutes but still led by two with four minutes remaining. They then scored consecutive baskets a minute apart, the second on Vinson's jumper following Brandon's swat of Ramar Pryor's layup attempt.
The Vikings got within three twice before Warrick's free throws.
Vinson and Warwick scored 10 points apiece in the first half to lead NKU to a 33-30 lead.
Four-seed NKU and three-seed Cleveland State finished in a three-way tie for second place with Milwaukee behind Youngstown State. The Norse knocked out Youngstown State and Cleveland State eliminated 2-seed Milwaukee in Monday's semifinals. The finalists split their regular-season series, each winning by a point on their home court.

Destiny Leo had a look.
“[In overtime] she was giving me a look in the huddle,” Cleveland State head coach Chris Kielsmeier said. “I don’t know what it was, but she gave me a look I had never seen, she was looking right through me. I think it was just ‘coach, give me the ball.’”
“I don’t even know if she knew she was doing it, but man she was staring through me. I don’t know if she was mad at me because I didn’t make the play call quick enough.”
For her part, Leo confirmed the latter explanation, saying that she did give a look after a late play call led to a turnover, but admitted that she didn’t know whether there may have been a second look and didn’t know for sure what her coach was talking about.
Regardless of the specific circumstances, it was the look of a player about to will her team to a 63-60 overtime win over Northern Kentucky in a Horizon League semifinal contest on Monday afternoon at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

               Injury Roundup from Week 6
By: Benjamin Munguia
           Date: October 17, 2023
Tumblr media
Bears quarterback Justin Fields suffered a dislocated thumb in Sunday’s lose against the Minnesota Vikings. He’s listed as doubtful for Sunday’s contest vs the Raiders.
On Monday, head coach Matt Eberflus did not have a timetable on Field’s return, but stated that  "It’s really going to come down to grip strength."
Fields completed 6 of his 10 pass attempts for 58 yards and one interception before getting hurt in the third quarter. In the last two weeks, Fields had explosive weeks, throwing for eight touchdowns and one interception.
Rookie quarterback Tyson Bagnet will mostly likely get the start on Sunday. Bagnet went undrafted out of a division II school, Shepherd University. He beat PJ Walker and Nathaniel Peterman for the second string position.
Bagnet came in for Justin Fields on Sunday, completing 10 of his 14 pass attempts for 83 yards. He also had a rushing touchdown that brought the Bears back in the game before throwing an interception in the final two minutes of the game.
Tumblr media
"At his position, that's not an easy thing to deal with," head coach Dan Campell said at a press conference. “but I think there’s a chance we won’t have him for a bit."
Montgomery has been a solid addition to the Lions during the offseason. 384 yards rushing, 6 rushing touchdowns.
Their other running back Jahmyr Gibbs is supposed to suit this Sunday’s contest vs the Ravens after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.
Tumblr media
49ers lost 3 starts on Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns. Running back Christian McCaffery suffered an oblique injury in the fourth quarter. The team is still waiting on MRI results.
“It’s obviously a tougher position just because you get hit a lot more, but we’ve just got to see how it reacts,”  head coach Mike Shannan said to the press on Monday. “We got to see exactly what’s wrong with it, too, because we haven’t got that back yet. So we say oblique/rib. Hopefully, it’s not both, but we got to wait to see for sure.”
Wide receiver Deebo Samuels and offensive tackle Trent Willams both suffered ankle injuries in Sunday's game. Both are considered “day-to-day.”
Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a knee injury late in the fourth quarter in sunday’s game vs the Colts. He’s day-to-day and it’s unclear if he will play Thursday night vs the Saints
Some injuries were scarier. Bills running back Damien Harris suffered a neck injury, and left the field in an ambulance on Sunday Night’s contest against the Giants. He had movement in both hands and feet. He’s now out of the hospital and resting at home.
Tumblr media
Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was also taken to the hospital with a back injury during Sunday’s game vs the Patriots. He’s still undergoing more testing, but head coach Josh McDaniels stated that Garoppolo "dodged a big bullet"
It’s unclear at this time if he’ll be ready for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. If not, backup quarterback Brian Hoyer will get the start. Hoyer completed 6 of his 10 passes for 102 yards during Garoppolo’s absence.
Injury bug has been hitting the NFL real hard this season. The Football Database.com says “There is 218 players on IR, currently.”
