MiqoMarch'24, Day #8: - favourite job -
"my name is MNK⠀⠀⠀⠀and tho I feer my utility is⠀⠀⠀⠀not top teer I still werk hard⠀⠀⠀⠀fer all my loot I do my best⠀⠀⠀⠀I crit the boot" - author unknown
With the terror of the Calamity fresh in his memory, D'nyr wanted to become strong enough to protect the people he cares about most so they’ll never have to fear for their lives and livelihoods again. He began his study at the age of 20 under the care of the Pugilist's Guild in Ul'dah, and spent his days living in and around the city as a bit of a street rat, without much to his name but his resourcefulness and fishing/cookery skills. He then formally graduated from the guild 2 years later and set out as an adventurer in search of new horizons, eventually training in the way of the Fist under Widargelt. A pacifist at heart, he took up the art of pugilism moreso to learn how to subdue would-be attackers than to cause them actual harm; however becoming the Warrior of Light and everything that ensued along the way has forced him to bend that guiding principle when necessary… while he still tries his hardest to live up to that ideal, he can't deny that he does enjoy the thrill of combat and the ensuing battle high upon really getting into the flow of a fight. D'nyr's fighting style can be best summed up as: strike fast and move faster, don’t get hit but hit back as many times as possible! He utilises a mix of rushdown and hit-and-run tactics; getting up close and personal for a persistent onslaught on the foe, but knowing when to back away and keep his distance-- he fights like the ocean in a sense, constantly ramping and receding in a way that helps conserve energy and keep an eye on what’s happening around the battlefield, just as Master Hamon taught him from the beginning. His favoured weapon of choice is a dented, battle-worn pair of Sphairai Atma that he acquired not long after his victory at the Praetorium; it has seen him through many difficult times since then and has not once let him down, so he considers it somewhat of a lucky charm!
As a bonus, here's a link to his NPC Trust info!

MiqoMarch'24, Day #7: - light -
A bit of a different take on this prompt, today is all about sin eater D'nyr from the point of view of an alternate timeline where he really did become a Lightwarden!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀- observations log. 1/5/XX, day.?? - ……..thus the creature was bestowed the title of Forgiven Temperance by its former allies, following the meaning of self-sacrifice and asceticism; excessive restraint/repression of one’s self for others benefit. At his core, one can suppose that this was both his fatal flaw and driving virtue! The poor soul… To date, nobody knows for sure what the beast fully looks like, not even those who fled the site of its transformation at the depths of The Tempest! It has scarcely budged from its initial location a few moons ago… obvious logistical reasoning aside, only a scant few exploration teams have had the wherewithal to venture down there past the safety of the Ondo's dwellings. Reports have led us to believe that the creature is covered in sharp spines and has monstrously large "claw-hands" (as it was described), or possibly some sort of scorpion-like tail as well? Its profile is unclear and hard to make out in the murk from such a distance, but one thing is unanimously clear; all of our teams have fled after seeing what they claimed to be "horrifying gold eyes" staring back at them! Yet the beast has not once given chase upon sighting our researchers, which is just as unsettling as it is perplexing… Due to the unique constraints inherent to its location, we are at present unable to cull the Lightwarden and return the night to the region of Kholusia. Mercifully, its light has not pierced anywhere else due to the sheer distance from the water's surface acting as a convenient attenuating filter, but one could surmise that if the beast were to emerge then all of Norvrandt would be under light pall again… its effect on the populace is quite clear: residents have responded with equal levels of fear and also apathy to this situation, as while some are content to live their lives as they had been before (with the beast effectively "out of sight and out of mind" and therefore not a problem), others are starting to become fearful of the ocean entirely (a complicated notion, due to their relative proximity at all times to it)! Disquieting rumors have started to spread amongst fishermen and sailors alike, that if you venture too close to the ocean you'll be dragged under by the Lightwarden, never to be seen again… though one would hope most people would question how bogus this sounds-- if you'll excuse me interjecting my own personal opinion... at this juncture I simply cannot see the Lightwarden ascending from the briny deep just to prey on hapless passersby when it has showed absolutely no inclination towards moving from even just one single spot-- it has nonetheless had a noticeable impact on the region's imports and exports of fish, so now we must find an effective way to quell the people's terror to rectify the economic impacts alongside dealing with the creature too………..
------ (as a bonus, have the rough draft of his Lightwarden trial encounter under the cut! because I am sad it will never get to see the light of day otherwise and I was proud of the concept years ago lmao)
CONCEPT: . Overall theme is “the breaking down of appearances to reveal what was always there, but hidden away”-- stage and boss both change per phase to reflect this, going from a more idealistic “this is what the WoL as a sin-eater would look and fight like” to a “ohhh god what is that that’s not the WoL anymore” . Mechanics are based around D’nyr’s repressed feelings towards others (loneliness, anger/the need to lash out sometimes, not always saying how he feels, his dislike of others putting him on a pedestal, etc.) and the world at large (eg. the fragility of life, futility of some things, etc.) and his unfulfilled hopes and wants (to live unfettered by responsibility to the world, to settle down with a family of his own someday, etc.)
PHASE 1: . Certain mechanics grant a stacking buff to the boss (Fervent Denial), which is necessary to progress the fight! These mechanics have an interrupt bar and represent the feelings and things that D’nyr has repressed-- if the cast is interrupted, the buff will not be given, increasing the flat % of damage taken from the ultimate attack at the end of the next phase [it's calculated based on the damage dealt to the boss in the first phase (% thresholds that indicate how much it weakens the overall ult damage by), as well as the actual phase progress bar (below 80% is no extra damage, at 80-90% it is +3% extra damage, 90-99% an 5% extra damage, and 100% a flat wipe)] . In a meta sense, the only way to put him down for good is to damage him when he is at his most vulnerable (ie, his final form), and the only way to get him to show that is to let him go berserk and not deny him the things he’s been disallowing himself all this time-- as D’nyr at his core would never allow himself these actions, it causes a “breakdown” of the mask (literally, the bosses’ one too [he has a blank slate mask with a golden kintsugi X like D'nyr's scar, for context]) and internal walls holding him back, fracturing his perceived sense of self and causing him to shift into a form that represents all of these denied things, which is what truly needs to be destroyed/purified! . Normal mode has 7 chances to grant Fervent Denial giving some leeway for mistakes (the buff stacks cap at 5 however, so it is not possible to get 7 stacks despite there being opportunities to do so), but Extreme only has the exact 5 chances needed to progress! If players have not let the boss reach at least 5 stacks by the time the hard-enrage longcast goes out, the party will wipe. . Fervent Denial also slightly increases damage dealt by the boss, so he will gradually hit harder and harder over time, plateauing right before the phase change. . After the boss uses its phase-shift move (what would normally be the yet-unnamed hard-enrage longcast), the stacking buff will disappear and the boss will become untargetable, beginning the DPS check phase.
DPS CHECK: . Unfinished from here on out-- but basically beating up… some kind of add, and while you do that the boss' mask slowly cracks with bright light before shattering into his second form and unleashing his ultimate attack (he becomes more agitated and spiny-looking but I never finished designing any of his forms so just imagine the possibilitiiiiies)
PHASE 2 & 3: . To be continued……. or not! maybe someday :')

"Then Let Me Be Evil"
You never wanted to hurt anyone, but the world never gave you a choice. You did the best you could with what you had, but every innocent mistake you made was held against you when it counted, every crossroads led you down the wrong path no matter which way you went. No matter what you did, the odds were stacked against you. It wasn't fair, and you are sick and tired of being told what a monster you are for things out of your control. Well, fine. They want a monster? YOU'LL GIVE THEM A MONSTER!

MiqoMarch'24, Day #16: - twilight -
Every now and then when he watches the sun slowly sink beyond horizon, he catches glimpses of a far-flung memory. A past life where he is not D'nyr, but Polydeuces, where he is whole and happy and surrounded by many friends… He is taller too (though not by much; he still appears shorter than most of his colleagues!), with slightly longer and more tousled hair, his fringe pinned back on one side by a silver circlet-- it seems he is forever destined to have one eye left beset by hair-- and when the light hits, his face appears almost softer without his signature X-shaped scar. Part of the Convocation of Fourteen, his title was Theidos* the Recordkeeper and his role was to maintain and safeguard mankind's accumulated wisdom, an accolade which paired well with his main vocation as the Chief Archivist of Anamnesis Anyder. During the early stages of the Final Days, he sought assistance from colleagues like The Watcher (as well as from Hythlodaeus, Chief of the Bureau of the Architect) to develop a mobile version of Anamnesis which could be used as a fortress and sanctuary both, one that could protect the treasures and knowledge of the current age and carry them on safely into the future; a concept he dubbed "Alexander". As time grew short he would entrust his position to his senior-most advisor and step down in order to fully pursue these plans, however the advent of Zodiark and the schism that ensued upon its summoning threw a spanner in the works, and not just for the loss of a friend and collaborator-- although not a part of it, he was of course well aware of Venat's group due to his ties to Anamnesis Anyder, and in agreement with their views he cast aside his title of Theidos. In response to this, his Convocation-related belongings were seized with the drafts along with them and, left powerless in the wake of cataclysm, he fled… (These designs were later repurposed by the Ascians for their own ends in ushering in the Rejoining, and fragments would find their way to others through mysterious means, inspiring the actualisation of Alexander and everything that entailed!)
*from the Greek thymámai (to memorize) + eîdos (form); my WoL's lore has no Azem as I drafted this all at the time of base-ShB expac release when we knew close to nothing about the Ancients, and I haven't got an interest in retconning it to fit :')
(yes there is a Castor out there somewhere but he'll have to be on a free day bc none of the upcoming prompts make sense to introduce him on)

finally got around to filling in a character meme template my sis @arty-ffxiv found over on twitter!
not entirely sure what to title it as, but it was a fun exercise and ended up causing me to go down the proverbial rabbithole of making an infinite number of moodboards for D'nyr lmao

MiqoMarch'24, Day #28: - adventure -
"Has your journey been good? Has it been worthwhile?" - Venat
His overall thoughts on his journey: Life would have been very different indeed if he hadn't become the Warrior of Light! (He likely would have led a quiet life after his pugilism training, heading back to his adoptive mother and living with the two of them just as it was before the Calamity displaced them from their home). Being forced out of his comfort zone was never easy and it happened more often than not, but it proved very rewarding in all the new people, places and memories he got to meet, see and make respectively-- this journey taught him that he is more capable than he ever could have imagined, and expanded his horizons in many ways, so much so that he's almost a completely different person now than he was at the start of it all. So was it worthwhile? A resounding yes! What he enjoyed: • All of the beautiful landscapes and vistas he got to see with his own eyes-- not just in photos or picture books but actually right there, along with all of the accompanying environment and sounds and senses-- some even more unbelievably fantastical than in his books (The moon!! He's the first cat on the moon!!) • Travelling with all of his companions-- whether it was camping out under the stars with Alphinaud, Estinien and Ysayle, making his way across the Ruby Sea with Alisae, Lyse and Soroban, or navigating the unfamiliar lands of Norvrandt with all of the Scions ...And what he didn't: • Absolutely everything to do with Zenos; he despised the familiarity with which the man spoke towards him and felt he was completely off-base with what he claimed to "understand" about him (though he was right about D'nyr enjoying the thrill of battle, as much as he will never admit it). He simply could not understand this man's obsession with him, and he hopes that their final showdown at Ultima Thule will finally, finally be the last of him... • All of the tragedy and anguish he suffered… getting drugged and clubbed and backstabbed and nearly turning into a monster and just generally being hurt physically and emotionally; it really wore him down! He's always tried to assume the best of people, and went through life with the mindset that if he just does good deeds and tries his best then everything will always work out for the better; his adventures taught him how naive those ideals can be sometimes... What's next for him: Eventually D'nyr would like to settle down with a family of his own, unfettered by responsibility to the world at large-- but that's still a long way off though! He's not retiring from his adventure just yet and is very much looking forward to a spot of relaxation in Tural (even though he knows it's 100% going to end up a business trip as always)!

MiqoMarch'24, Day #19: - danger -
As the Warrior of Light (and Darkness), D'nyr is no stranger to danger, as it were. Here are the moments that have stuck with him forever in the worst of ways, things he wishes to never relive again:
● The Bloody Banquet: It was the first major loss he experienced (even if he eventually reunited with… almost… all of his friends again) ● Losing Haurchefant in the Vault: The first death to happen to him directly due to his (perceived) powerlessness… in reality there was little he could have done to prevent it, but it’s this moment where D’nyr started to develop his characteristic borderline-obsessive fear of others coming to harm under his watch ● When the Scions started collapsing one by one (when in truth their souls were actually being spirited away to the First): The more it happened, the more his fear of being left all alone rose, but the worst part was not knowing why it was happening or whether they would be ok in the aftermath… he had some choice words to say to G’raha for his methods far later down the line ● The events in Garlemald wherein he was bodysnatched by Zenos: It collected all of his biggest fears and causes of discomfort into one moment (causing harm to loved ones, powerlessness, loss of control, failure to protect, that it was his own hands that nearly ended that of his friends--) and the fear he felt at that time lingers bone-deep even now… he can’t remember ever being that terrified before, and simply thinking back on that time is enough to induce a mild panic attack; though the memory is coming to him less and less as time goes on (just another thing to repress…), every now and then he’ll have a sleepless night where the guilt and shame from it all plagues him until the sunrise… ● When the Scions were sacrificing themselves one by one to help push him forward through Ultima Thule: After Estinien he had already resolved to bring them back with the Mothercrystal’s power, so he was a little less affected by his fears here, but only marginally! This situation was always going to be traumatic for him no matter how it played out.

MiqoMarch'24, Day #18: - snow -
If there's one thing D'nyr hates with a fervant passion, it's the cold-- he runs at a warmer-than-average body temperature (the kind of person who quite literally radiates warmth), so if he's feeling chilly, you know it's for real! He dislikes how sluggish it makes him feel and the numbness in his nose, but most of all the aching in his joints-- and especially knuckles-- upon years of wear-and-tear meeting frigid winds… he supposes that if there was ever a lifetime in which he did enjoy the cold, he would have probably taken up snowboarding (he loves moving fast and feeling the wind through his hair after all). He also wouldn't mind falling in the river when fishing quite as much if he could tolerate the cold water! Despite all of this, there are still a few things he can find enjoyment in about the cold; namely how the crisp air makes one feel more alert and awake, but also in the vistas that it creates! Boreal tundras rimed with glistening icicles, tall snow-capped peaks, powdery snowfields and of course the remnants of ages past encased in permafrost, hidden away in glaciers… while he hates being in them, he can still find ways to enjoy their inherent beauty-- at a distance!

MiqoMarch'24, Day #15: - favourite minion -
This is Jaffa the dodo, D'nyr's fishing companion! He is rotund, always hungry and not very smart (as far as dodos go). His favourite things in all the world are honey worms, toast crumbs, getting underfoot and honking all the while, and fishing with his master/best buddy D'nyr of course. D'nyr first found him when he was 16 years old, stuck headfirst in a hollow at the base of a tree and honking loudly enough to alert all and sundry! He had been enthusastically foraging for bugs was chasing a big caterpillar when he overestimated his own girth and couldn't get free… he was swiftly rescued from his predicament and the rest is, as they say, history. When his master is adventuring far from home, Jaffa stays behind in the care of D'nyr's foster mother Aster. But don't let his unassuming appearance fool you, he has a number of ways he helps out around the house! Here are just a few of his many lofty titles:
. Garden Groundskeeper & Pest Control Officer (when not napping, the majority of his time at home is spent eating bugs, pushing soil here and there with his beak and enjoying the odd ripe fruit on occasion) . Quality-assurance/FIFO Advisor of Fishing & Bait (when he accompanies D'nyr on his fishing outings, he loves to snuffle through the baitbox; while he usually goes for the stinkiest/oldest baits, this nonetheless adds an extra level of challenge for his master in trying to wrangle his pet, not run out of bait prematurely, and still hook the fish!) . Royal Taste-tester for Kitchen Affairs (he always gets the scraps when someone's cooking-- whether they want him to or not!)
BONUS! My wonderful sister @arty-ffxiv commissioned a plush of Jaffa for my birthday back in 2017, made by the talented @blackash!
behold, the borb!

MiqoMarch'24, Day #9: - flower -
D'nyr's favourite flower is technically only a flower in the sense that it's the flowering plant of a shrub-- lavender! He also enjoys wisteria and hydrangea blooms (there is definitely a common theme here...), but he's more interested in fauna over flora, so he doesn't have much to say on why he likes them most over any other flower, really! There is a flower that has special meaning to him, and that he is represented by however: Aster tataricus, otherwise known as "Tartarian aster" or "Shion". In the language of flowers (hanakotoba), shion holds the meaning of "rememberance/I will not forget you", and this fits perfectly with one of D'nyr's core character concepts. Aster also happens to be the name of his adoptive mother as well!

MiqoMarch'24, Day #6: - road -
Throughout his travels as the Warrior of Light, D'nyr has had the opportunity to visit many places both near and far and has gotten to experience their unique culture, climate, flora and fauna-- naturally, there are some locations that he's enjoyed more than others, so here is a travel log (in no particular order) full of the ones he loved and the ones he didn't! Most Liked: . Raincatcher Gully, E.La Noscea: The way the landscape lights up at night all the while surrounded by the crisp echoes of myriad types of junglebound fauna, it just makes his heart race with how full of life it is! . The Salt Strand, M.La Noscea: Kind of an environmental masterstroke in showing the effects of the calamity upon the landscape, he thinks it cuts a striking silhouette no matter where you view it from and the soft glowing of the crystals to be quite eerie after nightfall... . Thalaos, U.La Noscea: A fisherman at heart, seeing the fossilized remains of this miniature leviathan ignited his curiosity towards the ecological and zoological side of fishing, beyond just simply catching them for fun or sustenance . Lakeland: This one is more silly than anything; he was captivated by all of the purple foliage! (he feels he could be masterfully good at hide-and-seek in these foothills...) . Pla Enni, Il Mheg: More than the cute mushroom houses, he just really loved meeting the locals and learning about their customs and way of life! . The Tempest: He found it fascinating to be able to walk at the bottom of the ocean where his piscine quarry often live (and then the sense of awe he felt upon walking out of that canyon, coupled with this strange gnawing feeling, a mixture of dread and familiarity he couldn't quite place...) . Anamnesis Anyder: These halls seemed so deeply familiar that it almost brought him to tears-- it was as if a part of his soul was hidden here in the depths, buried amongst a millennia's worth of forgotten pages and secrets lost to time... Most Disliked: . Tam-Tara Deepcroft: He really hates the disquieting feeling of being surrounded by the deceased, not to mention the horrors he's encountered both times he's been roped into coming here... . Dravanian Hinterlands: The scenery just doesn't do anything for him, to be honest! Beyond the obvious landmarks, he finds it to be like a mush of green and brown without much else of interest . Eulmore: He finds the disparity between the sheer over-excess and debauchery inside and people left scavenging for scraps outside staggeringly distasteful to his core (the kind of revulsion one is normally supposed to feel upon such a sight, he hopes!) . Regio Urbanissima, Garlemald: Four words, “In From The Cold”!

MiqoMarch'24, Day #4: - sun -
If asked, D'nyr's favourite time of day would undoubtedly be the early hours of the morning, not long before sunrise. He enjoys the peculiar stillness that hangs in the air, a time in-between where the world feels half-asleep and yet half-awake all at once, and there's no expectation or pressing need to do anything except exist in the moment! His favourite pasttime during this hour is to watch the sunrise with some good reading material and a warm drink in hand; he'll either get up and sit at the table to watch the horizon in contemplative silence along with some coffee biscuits (his favourite morning treat; he bakes them monthly), or he'll while away an hour or two in bed reading and enjoying the slowly rising chorus of birdsong, finally getting up once the first rays of dawn filter across the room. That said, he also enjoys sleeping in some mornings when the temperature and weather is just right; nestled snugly under his duvet, dozing and listening to the pitter-patter of rain or the whistling of storm winds as he weaves in and out of consciousness…

MiqoMarch'24, Day #1: - introductions -
Bio: Born in what is now known as the Burning Wall in the days post-Calamity, D’nyr* was the sixth son in a family of Keeper Miqo’te. His parents and siblings were killed during a bandit raid which left him an orphan, however he was taken in by a recently-widowed Hyuran woman and raised as her only son on the outskirts of Horizon until his 20th Nameday, wherein he set out on his own to study the art of pugilism… but one thing led to another and he ended up becoming the Warrior of Light instead! *He believes that he is “D’nyr of the Dodo tribe”, named for the dodos that used to reside around W.Thanalan pre-Calamity… he’s never been told he’s not actually a Seeker and doesn’t have a tribe at all (at this point it’s the world’s best-kept secret that he’s not a Seeker; almost everybody knows he’s not one, yet nobody can bring themselves to tell him after seeing his skill at martial arts!) Personality: . Compassionate and gentle, loyal, modest and sincere . Friendly but reticent, doesn’t often voice his opinions or thoughts unless asked . Speaks more through actions than words, and often feels more than he says . Can forgive, but never forgets . A deeply sentimental soul, treasures the small things in any situation, whether it be a material keepsake or memory Enjoys: Waking early to watch the sunrise, fishing with his dodo Jaffa, reading & learning new skills, sunbaking, meditating, trying his hand at making new food dishes from the places he travels to, feeling the wind through his fur while flying
