u can always tell when an actor is about to leave a bbc drama because they begin to suffer the most drastic character assassination for no apparent reason

#who decides whether narratively we have to hate that man like do they flip a coin #over whether he's driven his car into a tree or lost all of his fortune and become an asshole #call the midwife is the worst about this tbh i kind of miss downton's wanton death method of actor removal #downtown was the funniest matthew's death was completely unhinged and i think about it often #no matter how much i hate downton #every death was just so out of pocket and every one was just an actor moving on lmao #and the writers just had no interest in gracefully moving them out of that space
