I would like to say that various characters' reactions to mike's depression in s2 vs max's depression in s4 is growth but a bigger part of me knows it's just the way they see mike
#I think for lucas it's indicative of growth#he's building his skills by trying to understand max in 4 which will help with mike in 5#I want to say lucas was the best with mike in s2 but that's only because he's so conflict avoidant he never SAYS anything#and when he does it's snapping at mike for pacing and assuming he's only stressed out over el's safety#not the trauma of being the only kid *conscious* and *aware* while they were trapped in the lab and being hunted by monsters#and two people he knows just went back in there#ONE OF WHICH. BTW. THE ADULT#HAD TO BE RESCUED BY JOYCE WILL MIKE AND BOB#SO 'HOPPER'S WITH EL SHE'LL BE FINE' ISN'T EVEN AS REASSURING AS LUCAS WANTS IT TO BE#st#if I'm being so serious max and will were the best with mike in s2#except mike was pulling away from max + will didn't notice mike reaching out unless it was Right In Front Of Him#they've both got their own stuff going on as well. it's hard#hopper handled the eventual explosion of mike wheeler's emotions well but he's also the reason any of it happened in the first place. so.
