I’m extracting Sebastian’s dialogue for my skyrim mod, but if anyone is interested in extracting specific audio files from Dragon Age 2, I found a solution that isn’t incredibly difficult and doesn’t require you to be super computer savy. If you’ve ever tried to do extract the vo files then you’ll know how awful it is, and why even just know the approximate location of the files is more than enough
use the pyGFF tool (https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/4512/?) to extract all the .ogg files from wwisestreams__campaign_base erf file (theres a lot of these and it will take some time because it’s every voiced line in the game)(they’re also all nonsense number but don’t worry that’s how they’re supposed to be)(also this erf is found in the da2 files under module\campaign base\audio\vo\en-us\vo. the module folder can be found by going to the file location of the game launcher and then back from the bin_ship folder into the generic Dragon Age II folder that should be in program files of program files (x86))
then extract all the .bnk files from wwisebanks__campaign_base erf (some file location as the other erf) into a separate folder
use this bnk extracter (https://www.reddit.com/r/killingfloor/comments/35d5w6/how_to_extract_game_audio_files_guide/) and get all the .wem files out of whatever .bnk file you want the audio from
Use this bnk editor (https://github.com/Nexusphobiker/BNK-Editor) with visual studio, there might be another way to run it but idk
do what it prompts you too and enter the location of the .bnk file you extrcated
next enter the location of a .wem file, any of the ones extracted will work
for the number thing, use the number of the .wem file.
badabing badaboom the result should include a list of positions, sizes, and IDs, the IDs are the names of all the .ogg files in the bnk
NOTE: you DON’T need to do this for every .wem file, it will list all of the IDs in the .bnk no matter which one you choose
then use ww2ogg (download link in the post with the bnk extractor) and create a text file, call it whatever you want and have it say “ww2ogg *.ogg -o output.ogg“ (no quote marks) and make it a .bat file by nameing it whatever with a .bat at the end
put the ww2ogg application, the .bat file, and the input ogg into a folder. double click the .bat file to execute it and you should have a playable .ogg file
for example: I’m looking for Sebastian lines so I use gen00fl_sebastian.bnk and my ID list starts with 415184 so I use ww2ogg on the 415184.ogg file that was extracted from wwisestreams__campaign_base.erf and I get the audio of Sebastian saying "unless I understand why they did this, any revenge I take will be hollow"
there are some other character lines in the .bnk (like Elthina) because it’s lines related to Sebastian, but it’s mostly Sebastian lines
I you want to find the exact location of every line then you could go through .cnv and .cl files to get the string ID and match it with a talktable (if you want to do I’d recommend figuring out slq management studio and the da2_content database from the toolset: links to both are in a post here (https://sapphim.tumblr.com/post/132724247440/), and I have the database working but not the toolset so I can only answer so many questions, but I can answer some
#dragon age#dragon age 2#da2#dragon age modding#da2 modding#modding tutorial#i spent so much time tearing my hair out trying to get the toolset to work before I found this solution#please take it and rip vo files for whatever you want#I tried to be very detailed but if something is unclear than just ask#i might post extracted vo files to the nexus as a modders resource once I'm done so ill keep you posted
